Comments: I'd like to thank Peaches for once again opening her home to all of us from SOC. Her luncheon always gives a kick start to the Christmas spirit and I appreciate her inviting me. Food was great and her home was spectacular! Thanks to all the hard working guys & girls who helped make it happen. I may not be a '63er but I really like y'all!! Merry Christmas and may God Bless us all.
Comments: Today's Christmas luncheon at Peaches' beautifully decorated house was fabulous (as usual.) Many thanks to Peaches and those wonderful hosts and hostesses for the fantastic experience. It was such fun to see everyone. This is always the best meal of the year. So many great cooks! I want recipes. It was good to see Jeanette, sister of SOC boy Robert Shumake. She is fighting a battle I know she'll win. A couple of the others are battling as well, but SOC people are tough. Cancer schmancer. Thanks again to all the hard workers who put on an excellent shindig.

Comments: I spoke with Danny Green this afternoon. He is home from rehab and was sad to report that he won't be attending the Christmas party this year. He has had a couple of strokes and has lost most of the use of his left hand. Danny says his weight has dropped from 220 to 160 (a good thing) but he no longer has much strength in his legs (a bad thing). Walking is a chore and he can only go about 30 yards without taking a break to catch his breath. He was frustrated with his eratic memory and the occassions when he struggles to call up a word in the midst of a conversation. He turned 72 earlier this month and joked about the 27 yr. old nurse he had in rehab. He talked of cars and motorcycles of his past. Of "roll & pleated" seat covers, of his life long dream of learning to fly. Of road trips and travels ... the good times prior to arriving at his current state. Danny is a generous man with a good heart. It was good to talk with him.
Comments: Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! ![]()
Comments: Hope everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving. Danny get well bud! Sorry to hear about Eddie Bruner. Our ranks are thinning but we aren't
Comments: Barry, nice to hear from you. I'm sure you will have many adventures in your RV. Danny, feel better, friend. Falling is not fun. Not even on the way down. Everybody eat hearty this week. Calories don't count! My SOC friends are among my many blessings.
Comments: So sorry to hear about Danny. Hope he will be okay. Just want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I'm trying to not eat until Thursday, so I can pig out!
Comments: I received a phone call from Danny Green last night. He is in Charlton methodist. He said he is not doing good and has been falling alot lately. He is in the Rehab. Please pray for him.
Comments: I guess I have been a lurker for quite some time and it is sad to see that we have lost so many from the Class of '63. The last time I was on here was before the 2012 election and I remember that a lot of feathers got ruffled when I questioned some candidates' qualifications. We have survived another election, or have we? School principals letting classes out so that students can go out and protest. Can you imagine even thinking about doing that in '63? Times have certainly changed. On more positive note, Joan and I have become RV'ers. Never camped in our lives, but since we have 2 little Yorkshire Terriers we are relegated to spending the night in a "pet friendly" room and with our allergies we would both be very sick by morning. RV'ing has been a mixed bag so far. We've been to some really nice parks and some dumps. We were planning to spend 3 weeks in Ouray, CO this past summer and the truck broke down in New Mexico. We got to unexpectedly camp in a Chevy dealer's lot for 3 1/2 days while parts were flown in from Denver. It only cost $6600 to get the truck out of hock and while in Ouray my allergies were so bad I had to get 2 steroid shots. Might be a while before we make that trip again! We did spend a great week in Palo Duro Canyon in October and are planning a trip to Natchitoches, LA in December. We've also been able to squeeze in a few trips to Port O'Connor to do a little fishing. I was not able to do Warriors Weekend this past May because my fishing buddy was closing on his house in Argyle and has since moved to Hot Springs Village. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. Our son is leaving on a missionary trip to the Amazon tomorrow and will be there for Thanksgiving, Guess we'll have to go to Port O'Connor!
Comments: I saw this post on Facebook today: ”SERVICES FOR EDDIE BRUNER: Saturday Nov 12 at 2PM Vista Ridge United Methodist Church Denton Rd Lewisville Tx.” May our classmate Rest In Peace.
Comments: I saw a notice on Facebook that our classmate Eddie Bruner passed away today. I don't know about services, but if I see something I will post it.
Comments: Hope everyone is okay. No new posts in a long time. Dan, it sounds as if you had a great trip. Glad you made it back safely. Stayed up entirely too late last night, but seeing the Cowboys beat Philly was worth it.
Comments: HI everyone.I haven't posted in quite awhile. IM still kicking here in Paris ,Texas. JUst,got back from 58 day camping trip to Newmexico,Arizona,Utah,Idaho,Wyoming, and Colorado. we saw some beautiful country and met some very nice people. We pulled a fifth wheel Trailer close to 8,000 miles and 23 camp grounds. We wanted to be home so I cut the trip short by a week and drove,.930 miles straight only stopping for fuel and food..home never looked so good. Went to see my sister sandy class of 66 in Pennsylvania.drove 1330 miles all day and night then drove the South Carolina ,spent the night and drove another 1100 miles. I must enter one of those 24 hour road rallies. I'm home and next year it wI'll be short trips to Texas ,Arkansas and Colorado.some of you need to hook up your trailer and lets.roll together. Stay thirsty my friends
Comments: Thank you, John. You said eloquently what bumbles through my head.1983 was one of my most difficult years, but my difficulties can't hold a candle to what some of us have endured. We have lost so many from our class, some of whom I envied from the depths of my being. Mary, with her beautiful voice and beloved personality, Sue Zan with her sexy lipstick and cute brother, Dawn who was one of the sweetest people ever. And on and on. I can't sing a note, often forget my lipstick, and my sweetness went out the window a while back. But I'm still here and so are you, and we came from a special time and school.
Comments: Well said, John. Hope everyone enjoys a brighter tomorrow.
Comments: For reasons unknown I woke up early this morning thinking about Gary Tilory. He was a bit of a scoundrel in Singing Hills during my junior high years. Did I imagine he later lived in Burkburnett, Texas? So I got out of bed and pulled out our 20th Reunion 1983 Class Directory ... the one that allowed us to post a blurb about our lives at that point. Sure enough in '83 Gary was a Supervisor for Southwestern Bell and living in Burkburnett. "Burk", as my family called it, was a podunk town near the Red River and Oklahoma border. My Uncle and Aunt owned the hardware store there and I spent many wonderful summers with them as a boy. In 1954 the "business district" was a single street, two blocks long that included an ice house, theater, bank, cafe, beauty shop, Hatch's Hardware, some other small establishments and a grain silo at the end of Main Street. It was difficult to comprehend that 30 years later someone from Dallas (Tilory) would choose to settle there. I made some coffee and continued to page through the 1983 Directory. It pleased me to see so many of us had become "educators". Many had traveled and worked in foreign countries. There were quite a few who out of ambition, or perhaps necessity, had their own businesses. Some had as many as four children, some had very young children late in life, some had chosen to not have kids. By 1983 you could tell many had changed partners. A few were widowed. Some had never married. 1983 was an interesting junction in life for our group. As I read on a bit of sadness set in. Now with the benefit of another 33 years having passed, we know how some of our peers lumbered forward in time toward a variety of predestined discontents. Circumstances conspired. Our parents aged and suffered. We watched our children thrive and/or veer way off track. We wonder if we are the author of our own accidents? And so I sip more coffee and ponder how it is that I made it to age 71 and so many others did not? Back in 1983 it seemed we were invincible. Now the unthinkable feels more like the inevitable. I feel undeserving but at the same time, amazingly thankful. Is it naive to treasure this old directory and my SOC yearbooks? Are they not central to the roots of my past?
Comments: Phyllis, I agree. Where is everybody? I know we have lurkers.
