Comments: Judge Tim Wright of Georgetown will appear in federal court this afternoon to plead guilty to two federal criminal charges alleging that he sold guns without a license and lied to federal investigators about it. Wright, judge of the Williamson County Court-at-Law No. 2, pleaded not guilty to nine charges in the April 7 indictment in his case. But the government on May 27 filed a superseding information that charged the judge with one count of engaging in business of dealing firearms without a license and one count of false statement to government agents. Both charges are felonies that could each bring up to five years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine. A May 27 plea agreement in the case was not immediately available electronically. Lora Makowski, supervisory program specialist in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas, said that Wright would plead guilty to both charges in the superseding information. The superseding information said that between June 1, 2014, and Dec. 15, 2014, Wright wasn't a licensed firearms dealer under federal law, yet he sold more than 60 firearms. It said that on March 27, Wright willfully and knowingly made a false statement to a special agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Wright allegedly falsely stated that he hadn't sold firearms between Sept. 23, 2014—when ATF agents visited him—and January 2015, when he started selling as a licensed firearms dealer. But the truth was that he sold guns in December 2014 "and created paperwork which falsely represented that the sale took place in August 2014," alleged the information. It also claimed that after learning that one buyer, identified as "J.C.," was a felon, Wright lied to the ATF by saying that J.C. was not present for firearms transactions when the truth was that J.C. was present and handled the firearms during a transaction in a vehicle. Jeff Senter and Joe Turner, who represent Wright, didn't immediately return calls seeking comment. Previously, Senter told Texas Lawyer, "Judge Wright is innocent of the charges against him. Judge Wright looks forward to a clear and positive, direct analysis of the facts. … His innocence will be established." Originally, the judge faced charges of: three counts of selling firearms to a prohibited person; one count of aiding and abetting and facilitating the smuggling and attempted smuggling of firearms; one count of facilitating the smuggling and attempted smuggling of firearms; two counts of false statement during purchase of a firearm; and two counts of false statement to government agents. The State Commission on Judicial Conduct on April 8 suspended Wright from his bench. Read more: http://www.texaslawyer.com/id=1202727702165/Judge-to-Plead-Guilty-in-Firearms-Case#ixzz3bSaQPTf9
Comments: Dan, be careful. When my ex and I lived in Paris in the 70's, we had several storms that were frightening. I remember Pat Mayse Lake being closed because all the ramps and campgrounds were under water. It was a scary sight. One day it rained 9 inches in less than 2 hours and the drainage ditch about 120 feet at the back of our property become a roaring river. It came all the way to the back porch but luckily didn't get in the house. It did, however, raise the boat off the trailer!
Comments: We are getting beat up with the rain here in Paris. I,be just restored a 1963 Glastron boat and now the boat ramps at the lakes are underwater.Ill just wait till my yard fills on up. It took me an hour to find away out of Paris Sunday because of closed reds. I hope all of you are well and not wet. I purchased a 5th wheel a month ago but it's to wet to take it out!
Comments: Sharon, so glad you are better. This has hung on a long time. I'm so sorry. Best wishes in your recovery. I know the security was put in place to keep out the riff raff....on second thought....that could be me. God Bless America!
Comments: I hope everyone has a safe and pleasant Memorial Day, filled with love for our great nation and gratitude for those who gave their lives so we can enjoy peace and prosperity in our beautiful country. Sadly, the letters we have to type so we can post here are the fault of a few low lifes intent to mess up our good thing by promoting their psychic and other services. If they were so dang psychic, seems like they'd know inot to mess with the SOC Class of '63.
Comments: Hey, Charlotte, I agree. Sometimes I can barely make out the letters. As to my health, I am better, still not 100% but working on it. Thanks for asking.
Comments: WOW...THAT SECURITY THING REALLY IS TRICKY!!! It kept saying ERROR so I kept redoing it ...sorry about the reposts.
Comments: I read where Texas has erased 5 years of drought this spring...yay! Yup, we are wet down here too and expect more this week. Our ponds are overflowing and pastures green at the ranch. All the farmers and ranchers in our area are happy. I just hope it is dry enough to cut hay when the time is right. Timing is everything as in most things. How do you feel Sharon?

Comments: Charlotte, our heads are still above water. I understand the Houston area has been getting a lot of rain also. How is the ranch doing?
Comments: Did anyone drown????
Comments: Hello everyone, We were back in Van Zandt County today for a special event. Albert Willingham (SOC'63) and Sue Wilingham celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a renewal of vows and reception at Pruitt Baptist Church just north of Van, TX. We were able to go to Canton and take I-20 to Hwy 314 and drive through Van north on Hwy 110. The West side of Van was in better shape than we imagined. Most of the damage from the storm was centered on the East side with the elementary school taking the worst hits. Over ninety homes and businesses were completely destroyed in the areas around the schools. There were dozers and dump trucks being filled and the debris was being hauled somewhere northeast of town. There were many volunteers in the area, with staging beginning at the football stadium on north Hwy 110. They say they need donations of funds more than goods, as there is nowhere to store those items. The American Red Cross is still there and there is a fund set up at Austin Bank of Van, should you like to donate. I noticed that Samaritans Purse, Bro. Franklin Graham's ministry, was also there helping at the First Baptist Church. There were signs everywhere---DON'T COUNT US OUT!!! and WE WILL REBUILD!!! God Bless those lovely people. Keep them in your prayers. Thankfully, Donna Gwin Libhart
Comments: I believe one of our classmates, Joann Tunnell, lives in Van.
Comments: Hello, everyone.
Comments: I have lots of family in East Texas, especially Canton and Van. One cousin had a tree branch fall on the roof but not anything drastic. Others had minor damage and overturned trees, but no injuries. Mostly just scared. But they have neighbors just a few streets over that lost everything. We are so fortunate.ct

Comments: I'm not sure why the name of Miss Wroe, our wonderful Lisbon auditorium teacher, popped into my head just now, but I found that she passed away a few months ago. It looks like she led a wonderful, happy life after Lisbon. She tried to hard to make us all better. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dallasmorningnews/obituary.aspx?pid=172923143
Comments: I hope everyone is safe and high and dry during this spring weather. I'm so happy about all the rain.
Comments: Saw in Sunday's obits that Norma Krueger's mom passed away. I will try to go to the funeral on Tuesday at 12:00 noon at Laurel Land, but might not be able to leave work. I believe Mary Krueger Cosgrove would have been 100 in September. Sweet and funny lady.
Comments: Geeez, Charlotte. i did not know that. I believe in getting one every year and I am very faithful about getting them. My mother had breast cancer twice and both times she found the lumps herself.
Comments: Not that I enjoy Mashograms..but I'd forgotten our government decided that when women reached 70 they can only have a paid mamogram every two years. I'm going to get whopping bill. Sigh!
Comments: I'm still kicking, just not as often or as high.
Comments: I'm glad to see you are still kicking, Allen Boggs.
Comments: Boggs, where have you been? How's the water level at Tawakoni?
Comments: Hi Allen, hope all is well! James, congrats! Exciting news! Happy Birthday Mike!
Comments: 70 isn't bad. Glad to see so many class mate are still kicking!
Comments: Thanks John for posting this article about Tim. I hope it helps Tim's case. Fellow attorneys, judges and former classmates sure support him. It was good to read Todds Quotes. I knew him as a baby, but I remeber meeting him again when he was about 4 and he greeted me and put out his little hand for a shake. Gosh, I guess he is 50 or approaching..WOW! It is a very favorable article. I'm wondering if tis ends his career even if he is found not guilty.
Comments: Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday Dear Mike Young, happy birthday to you and mannnny more!!!!!
Comments: Tim was very pleased with the article. The reporter I talked to said there will be another article. I gave her several names of other classmates that were more than willing to be interviewed by the reporter (with Tim's permission). Thanks for posting, John. |
