Comments: Hello, everyone, It looks like I will be unable to attend the luncheon on December 8. I was really looking forward to the fun, but my husband, Hughie, is having some health problems and he may have to have surgery on the 9th or 10th. We see the cardiologist this week to clear him for surgery. He will have to come off some of his medication, so he will be monitored closely. Keep us in your prayers. On December 23, we will celebrate our 46th anniversary. Hope everyone has a great time! Our prayers are with your loved ones and all of you for a safe and Happy Thanksgiving, a MERRY CHRISTMAS
Comments: I hope you folks are staying warm this week! I spent the day digging up a water faucet and line in a deer pen.It is muddy and cold in Paris,Texas
Comments: Speaking of the "Bastrop area", did I hear that classmate Frank Wilson had settled in nearby Smithville after a long medical career in Victoria, TX?
Comments: Oh good, Charlotte.. I've camped at that state park, outside of Bastrop...several times.. I hated the fact that so many trees burned... ![]()
Comments: BRRRRRR!!! But, we have glorious rain at our little ranch. We are on a hill out here and the wind can make it mighty K K K K C-O-L-D!!!!!! I'm glad to report that little Lob Lolly Pine seedlings are being planted in the Bastrop area now to replace the burned out areas of the native pine. Many volunteers and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center are busy helping. I am so proud t be associated with the Wildflower Center.
Comments: 38 degrees in Gatesville, Tx... For all you people not on FB...with me, I'm taking minutes for the Coryell County Democratic Club of the Coryell County Democratic Party.. They approved my minutes last night..! I must have sounded intelligent... Well, I tried.. (Watch what you do with that 'info'....JS....) ![]()
Comments: She, being Peaches, of course. Sorry about that. I look forward to seeing everyone there.
Comments: John, thank you for posting this notice about Paul Harrison. I remember him as one of the quiet, shy, nice guys at SOC. May he rest in peace forever. On a happier note, if you look on the Events page, you will find the invitation to her annual Christmas Party that she emailed me this afternoon.
Comments: I noticed last night on Facebook that B. J. Field posted a notice of the passing of one of our classmates. Paul Dayton Harrison of Forney left us on November 13th. He'd been married to Kathleen Vick for 49 years. Always sad to see our class get smaller. ![]()
Comments: Peaches ... off the record, between you and me ... did Leta Denning make specific mention of my name - or was it more by coy innuendo? My memory is a little hazy but as I recall she was the only teacher we had at SOC who was younger than her students.
Comments: I did read the posters and you guys did a great job putting the information together!
Comments: oops, one was from my Manton. Also Leta Denning sent me two pictures of her and her grand kids the day of the Reunion (which I would love to have posted) but of course, I was at the Omni. She is still beautiful!!!! Will post at the 70th birthday party and we plan on inviting our teachers for our birthday party.

Comments: I hope all of you took the time to read the two posters David Splawn, Ouida Hoyle and I made with the letters from the teachers and SOCites who could not come.
Comments: I dropped Mr. Manton a note after the reunion to let him know he was missed.
Comments: Phyllis, I don't know if you remember the Reverend Van Kemper and his wife Julie, who also was the minister at Holy Trinity. They both served together as ministers and Van married my son in 2003. I often ran into Mr. Manton, who sang in the choir. Anyway, I have sad news to tell you that Van passed away last week from of complications of multiple myeloma. Van Kemper was a colleague of my husband Bill in the Anthropology Department at SMU for over forty years. He also taught in Bill's bilingual program at SMU. He was a favorite professor among the bilingual teachers.
Comments: I saw Tom Manton and his daughter Dee Dee at Norma's Saturday evening. He was his usual droll, dapper, self. I told him that we missed him at the Reunion, and think about him often. I'm at Grace Presbyterian Village -- where he and Dee Dee live -- 3 times a week for physical therapy on my injured leg, and really need to visit them. Tom, his late Wife June and Dee Dee were all in Choir with me at Trinity Presbyterian Church. I'm not sure Tom recognized me offhand, but Dee Dee did and reminded him. Trinity Presbyterian was located at 901 N Zang and was over 100 years old. It closed down in 2008, as our numbers were dwindling. Far be it from me to say we were "old," but if you weren't old enough for Medicare, you qualified for the Young Adults [Sunday School] Class! ![]()
Comments: Can't wait the luncheon
Comments: OK, so I was drinking. I meant Gerald Jones!
Comments: Small world! In Phoenix on business and ran into Gerald Evans, class of 65. He lives in Irving.
Comments: SOC Annual Christmas Luncheon will be on Sunday, December 8th at 1:00 at my home. More details to come later this week.
Comments: Send a check to my address for $25.00. make it to SOC Reunion 63. They would love seeing him and you together.
Comments: Peaches how do I order the video shown at the reunion?? I think it would mean alot to the kids in the family to see Sonny ...especially the little ones that will never have a chance to know him.
Comments: Remembering all veterans on Veterans Day and thank you so much for your service!!!
Comments: A heartfelt thank you to all our SOC veterans. You are all my hero.
Comments: Geo Johnny: I owed you a 'drink' and was prepared to pay up at the Reunion. In your absence I got my beautiful wife an extra glass of wine (yours). It put her over the top. ![]() It was so good to meet some old (new) friends and chat. Again John, you missed a grand event. Funny though, by 11:00pm I was ready for my bed. Hmmmmm. ![]() BTW, my shy bride has her 40th in two years; We are going, AND I do have a surprise for her. Like me, she was shy, bashful and was a bit of an "unknown" in 1976 . Paybacks are gonna be beautiful. I just can't get our 50th out of my mind. Too bad I live in the Northeast. I'd love to attend more of our gatherings. What a wonderful group of classmates we have.
Comments: I am so sorry to hear about Gary's brother passing.
Comments: Gary's older brother Claude Jr just passed away today.
Comments: John, Unable to Locate means exactly that. We have lost all contact with that person. If we do not have another phone number listed to try to find you, then you are Unable to Locate. Before a person is put on the Unable to Locate list we call all numbers we have. There may be some listed as Unable to Locate that are deceased. Our Committee feels we have kept a very good list throughout the years of those who want to be found. It saddens me to put someone on that Unable to Located list. If someone wants to try to track down lost people, go for it...all help is greatly appreciated!
Comments: I received my new Class Directory in the mail yesterday and have read every page of it. Well done! It was surprising to see so many listed as "Unable to locate". You'd think in the internet age it would be difficult to NOT be found. Does "Unable to locate" mean just that or is it the secret code for "Don't list my information"? Did I notice Jewell Bond has a new last name? Belated best wishes! |
