Judge to Resign, Surrender Law License After Guilty Plea Angela Morris, Texas LawyerMay 29, 2015 | Williamson County Court-at-Law No. 2 Judge Tim Wright, second from left, apologizes to the people of Williamson County after pleading guilty to two federal felonies on May 28. His lawyers, Joe Turner, far left, and Jeff Senter, far right, listen. Judge Tim Wright of Georgetown now faces five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to two federal criminal charges alleging that he sold guns without a license and lied to federal agents. See Related Video: Judge Wright to Resign
Wright will also resign as the Williamson County Court-at-Law No. 2 judge, and surrender his law license. Wright pleaded guilty to one count of engaging in business of dealing firearms without a license and one count of false statement to government agents. Both charges are felonies that could have each brought up to five years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine. Originally, Wright faced nine charges, but the government on May 27 filed a superseding information that only charged the two crimes for which Wright pleaded guilty. Under the plea agreement, the government recommended a total of five years in prison for Wright. The judge also agreed to abandon his ownership interest in 49 firearms. "While sworn to uphold the law, Judge Timothy Wright repeatedly violated federal laws governing the sale of firearms. He sold dozens of firearms without license, many of which went to people smuggling them to Mexico. He also falsified official firearms records to hide the true identity of the real buyer. These are serious crimes for which he is being held accountable," said Acting U.S. Attorney Richard L. Durbin Jr. in a statement. Wright ApologizesAfter his May 28 rearraignment and plea, Wright addressed the people of Williamson County in a prewritten statement that he read to the press. Wright said, "It is with deep regret that I am announcing that I am resigning my position as judge of the Williamson County Court-at-Law No. 2, effective immediately. Just a few moments ago I entered a plea of guilty to violating federal firearms regulations and making false statements. I am guilty of these violations and now stand ready to accept full responsibility for my actions. No one is above the law, especially not judges. I sincerely apologize to my family, friends and the people of Williamson County for any discredit and embarrassment that I may have created as a result of my actions. In addition to my resignation I am voluntarily surrendering my license to practice law, my concealed handgun license and my federal firearms license. I hope that you can find in your hearts the willingness to forgive me." Austin solo Joe Turner, Wright's co-counsel, said about Wright's guilty plea: "I think it's a sad day today—a sad ending to an otherwise spectacular and stellar judicial career. Everyone in Williamson County and actually Travis County and everybody who appears before this judge loves him. They know how much he cares about the people who come in front of him. But he violated a federal statute and, as he said today, he's going to hold himself accountable. He stepped up to the plate and accepted full responsibility for it, and you've got to respect a man for that. It's not an easy day." About the ChargesIn the plea agreement, Wright admitted that some of the government's allegations against him were true. He conceded that the government could have proven the facts if the case had gone to trial. Wright admitted that he sold more than 60 guns to two people with the goal of making a profit. Wright didn't have a federal license to sell guns at the time, although he knew that he needed one. On Sept. 23, 2014, ATF agents discovered that Wright bought more than 80 guns in a span of several months. They interviewed him, and Wright said he sold firearms at gun shows. The ATF told him he needed a federal firearms license to sell more guns. He agreed to stop selling until he had a license. During the application process, Wright received training about responsibilities of being a licensed gun dealer and about federal firearms laws. Among other regulations, he learned about a prohibition against selling guns to people with felony convictions. The ATF issued Wright a license on Dec. 15, 2014, but Wright didn't get his license in the mail or begin acting as a licensed dealer until early January 2015. The two people who bought guns from Wright were illegally smuggling firearms into Mexico. Mexican law enforcement recovered two guns with serial numbers that Wright had purchased and sold to the two buyers in July 2014. The ATF apprehended one of the buyers in November 2014, and the buyer told agents about the second buyer, whom ATF agents also apprehended. Both of the buyers told ATF agents that they bought guns from Wright. The first buyer whom the ATF had apprehended assisted the ATF in investigating Wright by talking with him on the phone in front of agents and setting up a deal to buy guns. Wright took an order from the buyer for two Glock pistols in December 2014, when Wright still hadn't received his federal firearms license in the mail. "Instead of waiting for his license, then acquiring and selling the firearms as a licensed dealer, Wright acquired and sold the guns illegally," the plea agreement said. When Wright purchased the two Glocks, he filled out a form that said he was the actual buyer, when he knew that he was getting them for the first buyer. After he bought the Glocks, Wright delivered them to the first buyer. The ATF wanted to know if Wright would sell a gun to a known felon. The first buyer helped the ATF by introducing to Wright an ATF undercover informant who used the alias "Juan Carlos." Juan Carlos told Wright that he had been convicted of a felony seven years ago. In March 2015, an ATF agent interviewed Wright, who said he hadn't sold any guns between September 2014 and January 2015. Wright also told the agent that he did not allow Juan Carlos to attend firearms sales after Wright had learned that Juan Carlos was a felon. But Wright knew both statements were false because he had sold guns in December 2014, and Juan Carlos was present for gun sales three times—and held guns in his hands—after Wright had learned he was a felon.

Danny, you might want to get a second opinion but I deduce that your current medical problems can be traced back to the days of your youth when you made that fateful decision to take up smoking a pipe.
[sidebar: hope you know I'm kidding and just attempting to put a smile on your face with this vintage pic of you that was somehow acquired in 2004. By the way I'm not sure about the "waist" but the way those jean cuffs are rolled up, you might still be able to wear 'em].
All kidding aside, these are terrible and scary developments for you and Linda. You have been such a generous classmate throughout the years and it pains me to follow your recent years of declining health. Your requests for "prayers" is a done deal, my man.

Comments: Bill Pulte, this is awful news. Kathleen always took an interest in the health of her classmates and was a frequent commentor on this guestbook. Her posts this year mentioned her frustration with being in and out of various medical facilities. It is difficult to learn that she took a dramatic downhill turn. My best regards to you and your family. Thank you for taking the time to let us know.

Comments: I am sure I am out of line here commenting on this site in regards to Tim Wright; but I felt compelled to say these words. It hurts us so see what has happened to a wonderful friend and person in all of our lives. Guilty or not guilty, he will remain the friend he always was through and throughout school. It's hard enough to know the wrong that was done, but even if it is public knowledge for the world to read about, I just wish everyone could write something you remember that was a wonderful moment in your lives when you knew Tim. It must be devasting to all that love him to go through this, to be subjected to ridicule or whether he brought this on himself. No one will be harder on Tim than Tim himself. Me personally, I hate the fact that everything has to be put on the site of his wrong doings. God knows, we have all sinned in our lives and as I read the scriptures, all sin is the same, not one more than another. I only ask that everyone pray for Tim, his family, his friends and remember all the good he has done in his life and not dwell on the bad. I understand everyone wants to know the details, but do we have to put it here? Like I said, I am not a class of 63, yet I am married to one and he loves and always will love and remember Tim Wright for his good feats and will not dwell on the bad.

Today Judge Wright changed his "not guilty" plea to "guilty", resigned his judge position, and forfeited his law license. One source indicates Tim will be facing up to 5 years in federal prison when his sentencing takes place.
Tim apologized for any embarrassment or discredit his actions may have caused his family, his friends or the people of Willamson County.

Judge Tim Wright of Georgetown will appear in federal court this afternoon to plead guilty to two federal criminal charges alleging that he sold guns without a license and lied to federal investigators about it. Wright, judge of the Williamson County Court-at-Law No. 2, pleaded not guilty to nine charges in the April 7 indictment in his case. But the government on May 27 filed a superseding information that charged the judge with one count of engaging in business of dealing firearms without a license and one count of false statement to government agents. Both charges are felonies that could each bring up to five years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine. A May 27 plea agreement in the case was not immediately available electronically. Lora Makowski, supervisory program specialist in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas, said that Wright would plead guilty to both charges in the superseding information. The superseding information said that between June 1, 2014, and Dec. 15, 2014, Wright wasn't a licensed firearms dealer under federal law, yet he sold more than 60 firearms. It said that on March 27, Wright willfully and knowingly made a false statement to a special agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Wright allegedly falsely stated that he hadn't sold firearms between Sept. 23, 2014—when ATF agents visited him—and January 2015, when he started selling as a licensed firearms dealer. But the truth was that he sold guns in December 2014 "and created paperwork which falsely represented that the sale took place in August 2014," alleged the information. It also claimed that after learning that one buyer, identified as "J.C.," was a felon, Wright lied to the ATF by saying that J.C. was not present for firearms transactions when the truth was that J.C. was present and handled the firearms during a transaction in a vehicle. Jeff Senter and Joe Turner, who represent Wright, didn't immediately return calls seeking comment. Previously, Senter told Texas Lawyer, "Judge Wright is innocent of the charges against him. Judge Wright looks forward to a clear and positive, direct analysis of the facts. … His innocence will be established." Originally, the judge faced charges of: three counts of selling firearms to a prohibited person; one count of aiding and abetting and facilitating the smuggling and attempted smuggling of firearms; one count of facilitating the smuggling and attempted smuggling of firearms; two counts of false statement during purchase of a firearm; and two counts of false statement to government agents. The State Commission on Judicial Conduct on April 8 suspended Wright from his bench.

Comments: Dan, be careful. When my ex and I lived in Paris in the 70's, we had several storms that were frightening. I remember Pat Mayse Lake being closed because all the ramps and campgrounds were under water. It was a scary sight. One day it rained 9 inches in less than 2 hours and the drainage ditch about 120 feet at the back of our property become a roaring river. It came all the way to the back porch but luckily didn't get in the house. It did, however, raise the boat off the trailer!

Comments: We are getting beat up with the rain here in Paris. I,be just restored a 1963 Glastron boat and now the boat ramps at the lakes are underwater.Ill just wait till my yard fills on up. It took me an hour to find away out of Paris Sunday because of closed reds. I hope all of you are well and not wet. I purchased a 5th wheel a month ago but it's to wet to take it out!

Sadly, the letters we have to type so we can post here are the fault of a few low lifes intent to mess up our good thing by promoting their psychic and other services.
If they were so dang psychic, seems like they'd know inot to mess with the SOC Class of '63.

Comments: Hello everyone, We were back in Van Zandt County today for a special event. Albert Willingham (SOC'63) and Sue Wilingham celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a renewal of vows and reception at Pruitt Baptist Church just north of Van, TX. We were able to go to Canton and take I-20 to Hwy 314 and drive through Van north on Hwy 110. The West side of Van was in better shape than we imagined. Most of the damage from the storm was centered on the East side with the elementary school taking the worst hits. Over ninety homes and businesses were completely destroyed in the areas around the schools. There were dozers and dump trucks being filled and the debris was being hauled somewhere northeast of town. There were many volunteers in the area, with staging beginning at the football stadium on north Hwy 110. They say they need donations of funds more than goods, as there is nowhere to store those items. The American Red Cross is still there and there is a fund set up at Austin Bank of Van, should you like to donate. I noticed that Samaritans Purse, Bro. Franklin Graham's ministry, was also there helping at the First Baptist Church. There were signs everywhere---DON'T COUNT US OUT!!! and WE WILL REBUILD!!! God Bless those lovely people. Keep them in your prayers. Thankfully, Donna Gwin Libhart
