Comments: Kathleen, Mr. Kribbs passed away in 2004 at age 84. Some of his early SOC students (class of '56 or so) from the golf team were honored to serve as pallbearers. http://www.angelfire.com/tx/rangerexes/1936w.htm
Comments: John, How old do you think Eugene Kribbs is? My homeroom teacher was Mr. Kibler, the woodshop teacher. I doubt if he is still living. I always had fun with Larry Macon, Dorothy Shamblin, Joanne Locknitt,(Sp.) and Karl Vinson. I developed my political views sitting around the tables in woodshop. We had so much room, in the SOC basement, Mr. Kibler pretty much let us do whatever we wanted.
Comments: Phyllis, that's the place! La Calle Doce. I guess that's why "12th St." stuck with me. Earlier this week there was an interesting mystery on Facebook. A woman in Arizona posted that she was in possession of a 1963 SOC Den belonging to our Tommy Gramly and she was hoping to locate him through Facebook contacts. She didn't mention how she acquired it or how long she's had it but she wanted to get it to him? Her name on her Facebook profile reads "D. Gail Jones" and notes there indicate she attended SOC but don't mention what year. I'm not sure if Jones is a maiden name or her married name? Ring any bells with anyone? Tommy isn't the first to have lost a prized "Den". Sometimes these yearbooks decide they don't need us any more and choose to go a-ramblin'. Eugene Kribbs (the mechanical drawing teacher) has a 1967 Den that has now rambled on over to eBay looking for a new home.
Comments: I didn't know Vicky, but agree with Kathleen that she sounds like a wonderful person. I did know her sister Lena, who was memorable too. John, I think that Mexican restaurant was La Calle Doce: "Twelfth Street," in Spanish.
Comments: I didn't know Vicki but from reading her obit she sounds like a wonderful person. Over the years, I have come to realize what remarkable people went to SOC. We were all blessed to have these nice people as friends and classmates.
Comments: John, thank you for the picture of Vicki Her obituary is in today's Dallas Morning News. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dallasmorningnews/obituary.aspx?n=vicki-jane-fox&pid=172437147
Comments: It has been awhile since I last saw Vicki Liles. Some of you may recall her from a SOC luncheon we (Dru & I) attended back in 2005. It was at a Mexican restaurant in Oak Cliff whose name now eludes me ... maybe on 12th St.? Back then she appeared to be fit and healthy. In this pic from the dusty archives Vicki was seated with Danny Willard (Class of '64). At the time who could have guessed that in the future she would face cancer and he'd face a double-knee replacement operation? Her somber expression here was not typical.
Comments: Has anyone heard from Wayne?
Comments: Posted by our friend Sandie Pottkotter Kubiak on Facebook today, our classmate and forever cheerleader for the class of 65, Vicki Liles-Redden-Fox, passed away at 10:00 am today. The services are pending and Sandie will post the information on FB as soon as she knows. Please pray for her sister Lena and family and close friends of Vicki. Vicki's contagious smile and laughter will surely be missed among her classmates.
Comments: Charlotte, I am sure you score high marks with the fashion police despite the white shoes.
Comments: I don't own a pair of white shoes...uh, well, my work out shoes are white with hot pink trim. Oops...I lied! I just remembered some white sandals. The Fashion Police wouldn't give me high marks anyway. Barry, I'm so glad to see you pay attention and put away your white shoes after Labor Day!
Comments: Hi Mike. Just no porn over here...Okay!!! Haaaaaaa! We generally just visit over here and announce happenings..deaths and illnesses etc. pretty much anything goes. Our only rule is that you give your name and own what you post. I try to stay away from controversy. Notice I said try....haaaaaa You are welcome here!!!!
Comments: Mike, Go ahead and contribute whatever is on your mind. We really don't have a lot of rules, although some of my follow classmates get upset when classmates talk about politics especially if the opinions are dogmatic. We all just try to get along and look out for each other. We also have a pray line that a lot of us like to use. Some of us feel the need to have our friends pray for us.
Comments: Hey, Kathleen, thanks---before I contribute again, I think you better list the rules of contribution---like subject matter, opinion, off-limit topics, etc.---I do not want to be "a pain in the posterior."
Comments: Mike Johnson, You are right it has been years since we debated. It has been years since I even looked at your class web sight. I am glad you are enjoying the '63 web sight. Our class appreciates all SOCites who want to make contributions.
Comments: Prayers for Wayne Z. he is in the hospital having tests run. he has experience lots of swelling in legs and belly......something related to heart but not a heart attack. asked him to keep us posted. Just continue praying for good results.
Comments: Lynelle: Glad to hear that you put away the white shoes after Labor Day. I do as well.
Comments: Gee, my name is not Snith.
Comments: My husband was in the apparel biz for 25+ years, and I went to many fashion events when I would prefer to have stayed home. The so-called designers generally wore black. Their designing mostly consisted of copying pictures of NY and Paris fashions, and mass producing them. The real geniuses were the pattern makers. I pretty much wear what I want to, but the white shoes go bye bye after Labor Day.
Comments: Wow! again. I was so excited about seeing Charlotte and Sharon on the site, I failed to scroll far enough. Southworth, we miss you on our site---we will have it back and running soon when Pat Rogers and I work on re-coordinating the site (because Claudia Bevill Kengott is 'retiring'---maybe with some surprise announcements)---and KATHLEEN---it's been such a long time since we 'exchanged' niceties on the SOC62 site---it was always a pleasure to debate with you. My experience on your site has been an unexpected treat and I hope to communicate again soon. Thank you!
Comments: Hi, Charlotte and Sharon---How ironic!---that I should post for the first time on your site and see two familiar names---love both of you, Charlotte at C.P. Russell and Sharon at SOC---wow, what a great walk down memory lane just seeing both your names.
Comments: From what I see there are NO fashion rules anymore. But, personally, I do not take any designers word for anything....most of them cause all the "fashion victims" we see around and about. However, I have "winter white" stuff I wear all year round and my white jeans. And, of course, there are my patent and suede shoes. The "no white" after Labor Day went the way of hats and gloves as well as prim and proper. I never thought of it pertaining to blouses tho....mainly shoes and whole outfits. That's the way I see it anyway.
Comments: Kathleen, it is perfectly acceptable to wear white after Labor Day. I read an article last week by a big name designer who said it may have been an unwritten rule years ago, but it went out the window several years ago. The other "rule" I remember was "no patent leather shoes until Easter". The office building where I work is a complete jumble of styles. There are the suit and tie attorneys to actual slobs and everything else in between. Sometimes it is a real eye opener!
Comments: I keep seeing articles on not wearing white after Labor Day. Since I have on a white blouse, I guess I am breaking the rule. Do any of you not wear white after Labor Day?
Comments: Phyllis, winner, winner, chicken dinner!
Comments: Thanks, everyone, for the birthday wishes. Sorry to be so late responding, but my sister Diane -- class of "62 -- treated me to a wonderful birthday trip to the Choctaw Casino, and I just got back. Diane came back several thousands of dollars richer, thanks to -- of all things -- penny slot machines. I, on the other hand, can only report that I made it home with $150 more than expected, but with a sisterly bonding experience that is truly priceless. Hope your birthday was great, too, Sharon. And, how good is it to have Peaches back! We all have our trials and tribulations, but many blessings also, not the least of which is each other. It's good to be "home."
Comments: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU BOTH!!!! Just remember that saying aboutt Fine Wine!! AND...DRINK SOME...HAAAA
Comments: Happy birthday to the Labor Day Birthday girls!! Everyone be safe and have fun!
Comments: Just want to wish everyone a safe and Happy Labor Day. Phyllis Isaacs and I share a birthday on Monday. I'm looking forward to it (not)!
Comments: Peaches, We are all so glad you are back and doing so well. You have the most positive attitude of anyone I know. I am sure this helps you get well. We are also glad your mother is doing well. You should get Dorothy Parker to help you with your mother sometime. She does a wonderful job. |
