From time to time, I stay in touch with Jay and Gayle Kralik. I failed to mention in my last post concerning my visit with them is that Gayle suffers with osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s. Jay is her sole caregiver and it is very hard on him.  Out of respect for their privacy, I was reluctant to mention this, but thought some of you might want to know.

Peaches, I’m afraid we will miss your party this year. I am still fighting cancer and, although I feel fine, my immune system is so bad that I have to avoid crowds. We have not been able to attend church for over two years. Luckily, we can attend online. Give everyone our best.

Thank you Peaches for the Christmas party event, we will have to pass as of right now I am unable to walk due to severe sciatica and degenerating spinal disease.  We have missed so many events, these 75 year old bones just are not cooperating.  We miss all our friends and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and Christmas. We got thru the tornados last  Friday.  The tub is not large enough for me,Nancy,and 2 dogs .                                                                                                                    There was one just 5 miles east of us. Lots of damage just west of and north of Paris   I remember the one we had in oakcliff in 1957. It went up Hampton road .           Need to get a shelter next spring.Be safe everyone.Dan

Sorry everyone .We received around 3 inches of rain here in Paris,Tx . The creeks are dry,The grass is greening up.the ponds are full,neighbor cows like my grass better than his. I spoke to Peaches about writing these memories about Rodger Lynn Davis and she encouraged me to do so.<br><br>If my memory serves me well this is how it went:<br>I met Rodger at South Oak Cliff, and he asked me to meet him at Britton's Cycle Company to meet with the owner and Bud Mayes his Race assistant. I ended up joining the team racing Honda Motorcycles. Rodger was always at every event that I was in and always gave me good advice and he knew that I had a "Need for Speed". If I remember correctly Rodger lived on a street behind Clinton P. Russell and that is where I met his mom and dad and brother Ronnie. His dad was always giving some good advice as we spent time in his garage. When I completed the build on my 1955 Chevy, I was able to join Rodger and James Turner to cruise Kiest Park, the Nut, and the D.Q. on Hampton Road. Rodger asked me if he could use my personal Honda motorcycle to ride down the hall at South Oak Cliff Highschool and if I would open the Noth end doors so he could get in. I agreed so the plan was set, however I didn't realize that we would end up in Ben Mathews office who had a heart condition and that we may not graduate according to him. And there was the time that Rodger had Ronnie's Corvette and he and I decided we would try to get the Dallas Police to chase us just off Davis Avenue, so with lights off we were going thru side streets and were lucky enough not to be killed. Later in life when Rodger lived in Farmers Branch, I visited him on occasion just to stay in touch and that is where I saw his Isso Revolta and what his plans were for that car. Then there was the time that he wanted me to watch a video he had filmed at Green Valley Racetrack, and he had filmed me in my white 1957 Chevy racing that day. I look forward to the day that I see my friend Rodger Lynn Davis again<br><br><br>

Pat, you are so right about what we do in the dash. I was unable to attend Rodger’s Memorial. I’m so glad you and so many could. Thank you Bill for the photos. What a beautiful place to honor our Veterans!

Connie, you’re so right. Rodger was unique. I doubt he ever had an enemy, even overseas. He was an all around good person. The pictures were taken by the Patriot Guard, and sent to me by Bill Akin. I just posted them. I was unable to attend the service last Friday.

Rodger’s passing has left a big hole in the class of ‘63. In my estimation, he was one of our most unforgettable members… Funny, kind, always upbeat and interesting! Surely do wish I had been able to attend his service, however, I appreciate Lynell’s pictures. I know it was a memorable service. Rest in peace Rodger and know you were loved by many, but especially by Peaches, whose care for you was unsurpassed.

What a special ceremony for Rodger Davis that I had the privilege to attend.  He was an unforgettable character with a heart of gold.  There were people there who's lives he had touched many years ago.  Peaches gave him the greatest tribute and everyone there had a tear and a smile for him. He is the example of the dash between birth and death - it's what you do in that dash.  God speed Rodger, there are some people waiting to see you.

Was reading about Rodger service and looked at the pictures.  Have been to many of those well deserved services.

Then read where Sharon Capps Turner had passed.  Did not know she was married to Jimmy Turner who lived about 4 houses down from me when we lived on Marfa Street.  Rodger and Jimmy had a connection as well which made me think, one hell of a small world.

Many of you will remember Rodger's 1955 Chevy.  Rodger, Jimmy and little old me built the engine for it in Jimmy's back yard.  I was not much help but was involved and learned much.  Later Rodger bought Jimmy's 1963 Super Sport.  One heck of a nice ride.

All the comments just made me drift back to the fun days of Oak Cliff.  Gone but not forgotten.  Now back to the real world and drama in Uncertain Texas.[wink]

On the day of our dear classmate Rodger’s memorial service, this notice was posted by Buddy Capps, Sharon Capps’s cousin, on Facebook: "My sweet cousin passed away this week...Sharon Capps Turner class of SOC 63 is now in the hands of the Lord with her husband Jimmy Turner SOC class of 62.... arrangements pending... but service most likely Prestonwood Baptist Church Plano Tuesday 10a...."

I wish I could have attended Rodger’s service on this beautiful day. I have happy memories of him, a true American Hero, with his big smile and ”I’m blessed!” He gave up so much for our country. May he rest in eternal peace.

Rodger's service at the DFW national Cemetery is scheduled to start at 1:15 p.m. You should be inline in lane 2 by 1:00. Time is critical at that cemetery because of the number of services scheduled there every day and they rarely get behind.

I have been remiss in checking our guest book. Birthdays got by me and I should have commented on the drought. Our ranch must have a giant umbrella over it. It rained around us , but missed us nearly every time. We did not even make hay this year.

Unfortunately, I’m unable to attend Roger’s memorial. We will be out of town. Bill, it is wonderful what you are doing. Roger was a one of a kind and I’m glad he will have this wonderful remembrance.

Rodger Davis Memorial Service

Friday, October 21, 2022

1:15 p.m.

Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery

2000 Mountain Creek Parkway

Dallas, TX 75211

Directions once inside the park:

  1. If you are not familiar with services at the VA cemetery, cars line-up in designated lanes beginning in front of the Visitor’s Center.
  2.  
  3. When you enter the park, follow the signs to the Visitors’ center. As you get to the Center, signs will direct you into a numbered lane.
  4.  
  5. Once we are all in line, we will be escorted in our cars to the pavilion designated for Rodger’s service.

We can begin to line-up at 1p.m.

4.    We do not have a lane assignment yet; it will be assigned the day before. If I get it in time, I will post a notice of our lane number on my Facebook site. There also will be volunteers around the lanes who can direct you.

The service will be about 25 minutes, then they scoot us out for the next service.

Please, join us at my home after the service to tell stories about his life and reflect on our love for Rodger. We will go straight from the memorial park to my home at the address below. If possible, please let me know by text or private message on this site if you plan to attend.
