Comments: Tanya, what a great keepsake for Gary to have held onto all these decades. Valentine's Day was very big at Lisbon -- then in junior high, it sort of went away as I recall. Too bad.
Comments: Happy Valentines Day!!! Lynell, Gary still has his Valentine Box with the Valentines in it from Lisbon Elementary, we went through it the other day. Memories! Hollie glad to see you on line and congratulations on your upcoming baby! We are taking Brenda out tomorrow for her Valentines day lunch treat, she could not go today due to Nicki having her wisdom teeth taken out today. ouch!!! Not good on Valentines day, no candy!
Comments: I have red stains on my fingers from stuffing down those giant strawberries!
Comments: Hollie, how nice to hear from you. I remember Barney saying Valentine's Day was just for him. That was about third grade. What a funny guy, even at that age.
Comments: Happy Birthday, Daddy! I miss you every day! I love you. -ab
Comments: Does everyone have glitter and glue and crape paper stains on their fingers from making Valentine boxes? Happy Valentine's Day!
Comments: Well, Michael, today it was 68* down here and beeeutiful! I gave a baby shower for Skipper and Margaret Morris' youngest daughter today and the weather cooperated...yea!! This daughter is so adorable and was about 9 months old when we moved to Houston the first time in 1980. NOW she is having her own baby!! Oh Lordy! I am soooo old! It was a fun day!
Comments: My apologies to all my semi tropical friends in Houston. 27 degress is cold and I do enjoy coming to Houston. Please accept my regrets.
Comments: Mikey....27* for 4 nights two weeks in a row in Houston is horrible Don't make fun of us....Puleeeze!! Houston is semi tropical being only 40 miles from the Gulf Coast....this is devastating for our semi tropical plants....and our semi tropical bodies!!
Comments: 27 degrees???? Come on guys. I just got home from Chico...8 degrees yeah 8 degrees and I had to dig out two feet of dirt to get under floor joist and crawl to a ruptured copper water line and repair to keep the water on. It appears that some kind of varmit loves to eat at insulation on the water lines. The pond and water tanks are frozen and the cows had to have water...Farming sure is fun!!!
Comments: I covered what I had left too Phil. And I, too, Jud lost $$$$, But I won't replace anything 'til April I guess.........too much chance of a cold March. That villa is sounding mighty tempting! My little dog is staying near the fireplace...she is cold too!
Comments: I covered mine again! Hoping for the best! 27 degtrees at 4pm
Comments: I'm with you Charlotte! Lost a lot of time, money, and effort with the landscaping. The good news is I don't have much left to cover now. Sure you don't want to team up and buy a villa in Tuscany?
Comments: Batten down the hatches, all you So. Texas SOCites! This is headed your way. ![]()
Comments: Down south here in semi tropical Houston it went from 48 degrees at ten o'clock to 38 degrees at eleven o'clock.........I don't know what it is now, but the wind is blowing so it feels like 20 degrees....oh and did I mention the rain? That is lovely too. I have lost nearly all my plants here and at the ranch even tho they were covered.....grrrrrrrrrr! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!! ![]()
Comments: Obviously, I must not be ready for retirement - I would rather be at work than being connected from home and not able to do anything here. Starting to think there is an internet problem. Having issues with opening mail from work and ATT mail at home. Gonna be a long day... Stay warm Bill and all.
Comments: OK, it's official. I've enjoyed all the sleet, snow and below 0 wind chills I can stand!
Comments: Dear John: Please accept my sincere condolences in the death of your beautiful daughter. As a parent, no loss is worse. My son, too, has struggled with drug addiction and continues to struggle with depression and the physical ravages resulting from his former drug use, so I am familiar with some of the ups and downs you may have experienced. May you find comfort in your family and friends, your memories, your faith and the knowledge that nothing you did caused -- or could have prevented -- her fate. Yours, Phyllis
Comments: Well, four days off last week didn't help my outlook at all! I have pneumonia (but I'm at work) and Steve has pneumonia and an ear infection. We sound like a TB ward. I'm really hoping that the weather doesn't get as bad tonight as they are predicting because it's no fun being home with another sick person. JS, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Comments: Brenda, amen to all you said!
Comments: Can you believe Christina didn't even get the words to our National Anthem correctly? And I usually so enjoy the halftime show but it was not up to the past ones...a good game between 2 very good teams but just wish our Cowboys would have had a good season to be able to play at their new stadium for the Super Bowl...maybe next year...as my Barney always said..."You gotta believe."
Comments: I was revolted today to learn that the Dallas Mayor Pro Tem gave a key to the city to puppy boiler Mike Vick because "he deserves it." And to think I used to like the Hon. Mr. Caraway. This was done in a ceremony someone thought to record on a cell phone. Yeah, I know Mr. Vick did his 18 months, but still -- I wouldn't give him a key to anything.
Comments: It was a long afternoon in Houston and what I thought was to be a small family celebration of Jill's life, expanded considerably. There were about 20 of Jill's friends that showed up and another 20 of Robyn's (Jill's mother) co-workers from Houston I.S.D. Robyn is from a large family herself and it was pleasant catching up with her father and her four siblings. The weather was spring-like. It was a very warm farewell for my daughter. I was surprised and quite pleased to see the recently injured Charlotte Strange arrive. I can't begin to thank each and every one of you who've taken the time to post a kind word here on the SOC guestbook or the Houston Chronicle online guestbook ... and even on Facebook. So much kind support. We are now at an age where it is not unusual to lose a parent or a spouse, but the loss of a child is less frequent. Less frequent but every bit as painful. The entire family is ready to begin the long road toward healing. Many thanks again.
Comments: John and Dru, I hope you are doing okay. I know both of you are exhausted. Dru, I know a wonderful pulmonary doc in Dallas who cured my lung infection after others were clueless. PLEASE call if you want his name. The national anthem singer on the Super Bowl made it all about her. Imagine warbling your way through that in the DISD in our day. harrumph. I loved the Declaration of Independence before the "Big Game" started.
Comments: FYI....Today I went to the memorial for Jill, John's daughter. It was very nice and I was able to visit with John and give my condolences to Jill's mother. It was good to see John. Dru was not there because she is in bed with pneumonia.
Comments: On a lighter note in view of today's game: For those of you who haven't seen the HEB Super Bowl add go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM2y5GlnyJ8 it will only be seen in Texas and not the whole thing..it is great!
Comments: There was another beautiful write-up on the obituary page in the Dallas Paper this morning regarding your classmate Charlotte Napier-Stanley's brother Alex who was 4 years younger, who had recently passed away due to that dreadful word cancer. Alex had been inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame back in 2008. God Bless these classmates who have lost loved ones, may their hearts be comforted by your prayers and love.

Comments: John and Dru - I'm saddened to learn about your loss. I'm praying that God will hold you in the palm of his hand during this difficult time.
Comments: Dearest John & Dru - words are never sufficient at a time like this. Perhaps you might take comfort in the words of "An Old Jewish Prayer": "We give thanks for the blessing of life, of companionship, and of memory. We are grateful for the strength and faith that sustained us in the hour of our bereavement. Though sorrow lingers, we have learned that love is stronger than death. Though our loved one is beyond our sight, we do not despair, for we sense our beloved in our hearts as a living presence." |
