I am still on HCAD, Lynell is correct, bring photos, receipts and in Harris County 4 copies of everything if you go to formal hearing. They are approx. 15 minutes from beginning to end. Go to HCAD website and use their info and FAQ. This is my 6th and last year as it is a term limited position.

Hope all the mom's had a wonderful day.  Steve and I took lunch to my mom's house and were joined by my sister, my brother and their spouses.  We really enjoyed being together for a few hours.  Mom certainly seemed to enjoy herself, and even though she may not remember it today, she can look at the beautiful flowers and plant and know that she is loved.

I have a tip or two. Go to the appraisal office armed with photos and meet with an appraiser as soon as the letter arrives. The longer you wait, the busier they get. In Dallas, you don't even need an appointment if you get there before May 31. Good luck, everybody!

Phil Pelch used to be on the Harris County Appraisal review board. Maybe he has some tips for us?

Yes Lynell, we received dcad notices our properties including rentals.   Monica usually goes to war with the appraisal district.  I think she is tiring hope she doesn't pass that to me.

We put up a fight to have our HCAD amount lowered. It takes effort, but it is worth it.

Has anyone else received a scary reappraisal notice of your property from DCAD?

Tonight I was Googling around in search of an obituary notice for Bob Spann. Didn't find the notice but I stumbled across a fun story from 2010 in which Bob found himself in a marathon poker game at the Beau Rivage.

Apparently, he had some poker skills and finished in the money after 12 hours of play.

I am so sorry to hear of the death of Bob Spann.  My sincere condolences to Rhonda, John David, Michael and the rest of his family.  Bob was the first boy I ever kissed, at the Crest Theater.  As adults, I had the honor of being his attorney in the child custody case from hell, in which he and his family were falsely accused of being Satanists, and his younger son was abducted and taken underground by his then-wife.  After a long -- and very expensive fight -- we were ultimately successful in court.  Bob and his Mother did alot of brilliant and tireless detective work on their own and personally generated the leads that resulted in the FBI locating and returning his son and arresting the perpetrator.  In the process, we traveled to New York to appear on a Donahue Show program about False Memory Syndrome -- at the time, hoping to generate publicity that would lead to the child's recovery -- and, later, to Las Vegas simply to decompress.  We enjoyed ourselves at the 20th and 30th SOC reunions, and I was looking forward to seeing Rhonda and him again, in October.  RIP, Bob.

(Peaches asked me to post this).  Some of you might know that Peaches' brother, Rob, had quadruple bypass surgery this week.  She is in Washington, D.C. with him.

Update on Rob, Peaches' brother. He is still recovering well from his quadruple bypass surgery; however, there are some secondary problems regarding his gastric system. He is not eating or drinking anything. Xrays have been ordered and surgeon is coming to talk to them. Please continue to pray for Rob Sweezy for continued healthy recovery from his surgery, and pray that the doctors can successfully treat Rob's gastric symptoms. Peaches will update me later.

Please remember Rob in your prayers and for Peaches who is with him everyday and will be taking care of him for awhile when he goes home.

It's almost time for Warriors Weekend in Port O'Connor.  If you are the least bit patriotic, this is one event you should attend.  They are anticipating 500 Warriors this year and my friend and I will again be taking a couple of Warriors fishing on Saturday.  Take a few minutes to visit their website and, if you can't attend, they would appreciate any contribution no matter how small.  If you can attend, let me know and we can visit

My computer froze up yesterday, so I am using my boss's, which is okay since he doesn't know how to turn it on!  I didn't actually see this last night but heard about it this morning and laughed myself silly.  Channel 8 News was doing the bit about the expansion of Kyle Field at A&M, but unfortunately, the UT fight song was playing in the background!  I wonder how many heads will roll for that.
