Comments: I ran across a photo of the Zumwalt 8th grade football team. I would like to post it, but don't see how to do it. Any help?
Comments: I am beyond sadness to hear of so many of our classmates. If anyone can post Wanda's obit, I would appreciate it. My folder of deceased is too full. Lynell, I do so appreciate you maintaining our website!!!
Comments: Goodness, Dennis Stephens achieved a lot.
Comments: Another great guy, Dennis Stevens. Our class seems to be dwindling rapidly now. Thank you Phil for posting. Sharon, I felt the same way about Ron. Great memories.
Comments: When I heard of Ron Chapman's passing, high school memories flooded in. Listening to the Charlie & Harrigan radio show and waiting for them to give us the school lunch menu for the day. And the dances at Cedar Canyon Club when he was the DJ. Great fun.
Comments: Dennis Stephens class of 63, passed away April 17th. Houston Chronicle Sunday had a extensive bio. He moved from Houston to Sedona AZ. 2017. He had a very diverse career. Bell telephone, Amway, motivational speaker, owned his own office supply business, massage therapist. A very nice guy!
Comments: Sorry about the loss of more classmates, we are truly in the autumn of our years
Comments: So very sorry to hear of our classmates. I adored Wanda and was saddened that her health prevented her from attending the last couple of reunions.
Comments: I just finished reading the names on our memorial page. If you haven't looked there in a while, you should. We’ve lost so many wonderful people from our class.
Comments: Jacky Wallace doesn’t seem to have been in our graduating class, but many knew him from Lisbon days. His sister Darlene posted that Jacky has passed away from Covid. Nice boy, good memories. He was a state trooper in Waco before retirement. Rest In Peace, Jacky.
Comments: For several days now I have been expecting to get the message about Wanda. She was truly such a nice person, and would constantly email me about my heath issues and those of my son, Brandon. She will be missed by lots of the SOC '63 class.
Comments: Of course I meant to mention dear , sweet Wanda. she was my darling friend from Lisbon And beyond.
Comments: I‘m saddened to learn of our classmates that have passed away. I remember Valery and Tommy was my boyfriend via telephone (ha) for a while in the 7th grade. Tommy was such a great guy and Valery was a sweet person. I’m also so sorry to learn of Chere’s loss. As for me, my husband and I have had our vaccines since February. I’m so ready to get rid of masks. It was not right that people were allowed to travel on planes two feet apart, but couldn’t attend church. just sayin!
Comments: Wanda Scroggins Liford passed away this morning in Lubbock. her son posted this on Facebook. Wanda and I met on the Ramona bus in first grade. My heart is heavy.
Comments: What a fascinating life Valerie had! She and I met in the summer of 1957 when we took Red Cross swim lessons at Glendale. We both had mothers who feared we’d dissolve in water before age 12. We were at the far end of the line, being the tallest kids in the group. Most were 5 or 6. We proudly mastered getting our faces wet, floating, and eventually swimming across the pool. She was sweet and funny and very nice.
Comments: I remember Valerie's mother and her distinctive British accent, something that wasn't common back in the 1950/1960's in Oak Cliff. Susan Mays (married Tommy Green) went to our church and was good friends with Valerie, and if my memories are correct her mother was also from England. Both mom's were war brides.
Comments: Here's the link to Valerie's obituary. I had no idea she was born in the Uk! Valerie Bannister Obituary - Kaufman, TX (dignitymemorial.com)
Comments: I knew Valerie from both SOC and Lancaster Avenue Methodist Church...she was a really sweet girl. Her dad, Howard, was my barber during most of my Oak Cliff days. Also, after he moved his shop to Duncanville, he gave my son Steve his first haircut. Valerie and her family were all really nice people. Good memories.
Comments: I’m sad to post another great loss to our fine Class of ‘63. " Funeral Arrangements for Val Bannister! Valerie Adamson Bannister Victory Church of Scurry Lunch will be provided after service at the church. The church is needing a head count for those planning to eat so they can have enough food prepared. If you can let me or one of the following family members know how many will be eating? (Family & Friends Welcome) Lucy Adamson Melton, Darla Bannister, Shelley Kirkwood, Alyson Hibdon"
Comments: Ken: check is in the mail. Quite sizable. No, wait, that was to my doctor. You will have to wait.
Comments: Great news Barry
Comments: I got both my Moderna shots. I did not have any side effects, thank goodness. I have stayed very safe during this pandemic. I will continue to wear my mask, stay the distance and not gather in large groups until the scientists tell us differently. I have done several drive by birthdays, had happy hours outside my house, been on the telephone more than normal. My sister-in-law, Cathy had day surgery last year so we stayed isolated for 2 weeks before so I could take care of her for 3 days. I did assist with a baby shower for my niece, Ashley last July. They would not cancel and I had already committed. I wore my masks, no hugs and avoided close contact. Went to another wedding shower with 8 people outdoors, but I kept my distance and wore a mask. I went to a wedding in February as I was told all would be wearing masks. Should have known better as most were in their twenties....very few masks. I once again wore a double mask, stayed the distance and only stayed for an hour. I will go to my first restaurant this Saturday since last March for an outdoor patio baby shower for a close friend. Even though I have had both shots, I will wear my mask and no hugs! Let's hear from the rest of you.
Comments: Great news, Barry Grubbs!! Funny that you would mention Fruitdale. The Dallas Morning News had an interesting insert entitled Curious TX which detailed some interesting facts about the history of Dallas. Seems as if Fruitdale was built on land owned by J.K. Sloan and G.L. Haas. I'm checking old records now to see if you owe me some overdue tax money. I'll let you know.
Comments: Great news, Barry!! Thanks for sharing it here!
Comments: Barry, this is fantastic news!!! The power of prayer is unbelievable. Your positive attitude has a lot to do with it also. I have had close friends who have had cancer and until you go through it a person can not imagine. My prayers continue for your continued healing. May you have His peace that surpasses all understanding! Thanks for keeping us informed!
Comments: Bosko: I really you guys. You lived close to so many of your SOC friends out inFruitdale, most of the residents were older and had no kids. All the lots were at least an acre. DonChapman was my closest friend and he moved to Houston after our Sophmore year. Others in the area were at least a year older-Bill Derow (disappeared when some pregnant girl’s family threatened to kill him), Larry Fullenwider (always had a machete in his boot at school), Robert Bender (don’t know if he even went to school). No close neighbors like you had.
Comments: Peaches: The power of prayer is unbelievable. I saw my doctor yesterday and the lymphoma on my lung is completely gone. I had a pet scan on Wednesday and the only thing left is a small spot on my kidney. Dr thinks that the two remaining doses of chemo will take care of that. I am so blessed to have friends like you and all others that have been praying for me.
Comments: So sad to hear about Tommy, prayers for family
