Comments: This is from Beverly's daughter on CareBridge. Please be in prayer for Ken and his family at this time. They need our prayers. December 12, 2019Journal entry by Lauri Welch — 5 hours ago Yesterday was a day of decline for Mom. We noticed some changes in her breathing and responsiveness throughout the day, so it wasn't a complete surprise when the hospice nurse/case manager told us that Mom needed to receive continuous care from a nurse. If you're unfamiliar with hospice, this typically means that the end of life is near. All of our family gathered at Mom's bedside and had a sweet time of prayer, and each of us have had an opportunity to tell her how much we love her and how precious she is to us. We all spent the evening together and are grateful to be able to be present with each other during these difficult hours of waiting. The nurse has been wonderful throughout the night, addressing any changes and making sure Mom is comfortable. Even in the midst of our grief, we can see the goodness of God. The nurse He sent to be Mom's case manager was introduced to us at church about two years ago. Misty cared so beautifully for Dani as her home health nurse after her two brain surgeries. When we found out we were going to need hospice care for Mom, I contacted Misty to see who she would recommend and found out she had switched from home health to hospice care. She agreed to care for Mom and has been present with our family as Mom has declined. Yesterday, when the decision was made to move to 24 hour care and the realization of the end of Mom's life was evident, Misty bowed with us and prayed for God to strengthen, guide us, and give us peace as we entered this difficult time. We feel so blessed and awed at the way God has woven people like Misty into our lives at the perfect time. He's also blessed us with support at the perfect times. The right amount of food has arrived at the perfect time. Needed paper goods were dropped off prior to a trip to the store. Visitors, calls, and texts arrived at times when we needed a little extra support. He has known our needs even before we do. God has continually blessed and supported us through this journey thus far. Even as we know there is still more suffering and sadness ahead, we rest assured that He will continue to provide as just as sweetly and perfectly as He has thus far. Please continue to pray. Specifically, please pray for ... *comfort for Mom as her journey here comes to an end *peace and strength as we let her go *wisdom as we make decisions in the days ahead We feel your prayers. We want you to know that God is hearing your prayers. We know that the strength we've had on the journey thus far has only come from God. He alone deserves the glory for His provision of strength, and we praise Him for this gift. We praise Him for all of you and continue to be so grateful for the ways you are supporting our family through prayer.
Comments: It is with GREAT sadness and disbelief to inform you that Beverly Haas Class of 65 married to our Ken Haas has been diagnosed with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma. She is receiving hospice care at home. Beverly is a woman of strong faith, but this is a great burden and she and the entire Haas family need our prayers to help keep them strong. She and Ken will soon celebrate 55 years of marriage. Please pray for Beverly and Ken, their children, Lauri and Steve, and Beverly's grandchildren need our prayers as well. As do her many friends who are shocked with the news. Beverly is a Christian of very strong faith and is blessed that all her family is in that circle of believers. Bev and Ken's daughter, Lauri, has set up a CaringBridge page to keep everyone updated as they make this journey. Don’t put off making time to see your friends. Beverly and I have been saying for several years we need to get together. Now I am just sad to not have those wonderful memories. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/beverlyhaas
Comments: Peaches left a message on our phone that the party is cancelled due to illness in her family. I hope things go well for her. PLEASE NOTE!
Comments: Just wanted to take the time to wish all of you a very Happy and safe Thanksgiving.
Comments: Tanya, unfortunately, I am not in possession of that Den. As I mentioned earlier, it is up For Sale on eBay. I'm sure we could narrow it down by studying the various signatures but my curiosity isn't deep enough to lay out $35 to purchase it.
Comments: John, putting some of the names that signed the 63 Den may help round this out. Some put first and last names, some signed with only first names. Put some out here and I will look them up and see if we can solve this mystery. I like challenges like this, sort of putting a puzzle together.
Comments: Tanya brings up a good point. I was assuming "Rosemary" was from the Class of '63. But she could just as easily been a member of '64 or '65 and had possession of a 1963 Den.
Comments: Rosalie Brotherton from our class?
Comments: John, the book may have been from a girl from 65 class who has past away. Rose Mary Caperton. Just a possibility since we had the 63 Dens too.
Comments: I'm trying to solve a small eBay mystery. Today on eBay a 1963 SOC Den is being offered for sale (asking about $35 with shipping from Mansfield, TX). I'm always curious as to how these SOC items make their way to eBay. So I sent a note to the Seller inquiring as to whom the yearbook once belonged. The Seller replied that they were not sure but that the signings in the book would indicate the owner was named "Rosemary". Some of the inscriptions read "Rose" or "Rose Mary" too. So, the mystery is … who might Rosemary be? Any ideas?
Comments: Noticed in the obits yesterday that the mother of one of our classmates, Mary Gene Florence, passed away at the age of 94.
Comments: I need to contact David Splawn. The church that we grew up in is planning a 100 year anniversary celebration. We need to know where to send David and his sister, Paula's, invitations. If anyone reading this was ever a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, you're invited as well. Just send me a mailing address.

Comments: Tanya, so can I! The man knew how to teach.
Comments: Lynell, Gary had him as his English teacher and to this day he can repeat the prologue to the Canterbury Tales as he had to memorize it in his class. Funny how some things our teachers taught us still come to mind.
Comments: Another SOC teacher has passed away, Mr. Joe Waddill, Jr. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/joe-waddill-obituary?pid=194312828

Comments: Wills Point, Tx
Comments: Ann Walker (Ike's wife) Memorial services Saturday, October 5th at 1:00 at Alan Fuller Funeral Home in Will Point, Texas. Obituary on Alan Fuller Funeral Home website.
Comments: My brother, Gary, class of '59, called to let me know that T. C. Stone passed away last Saturday. I'm sure most of you will remember his name even if you hadn't met him. I'm not sure what year he graduated, but I think he was older than Gary. Anyway, he was a character and used to visit our house often and my mom thought he was the "nicest" young man. Gary and I had a lot of laughs over that!
Comments: It is with great sadness that I let you know Ann Walker, wife of our Ike Walker (class of 1963), passed on Sunday, 9-29-19 around 5:00 pm. She was diagnosed with stage 4 bone and lung cancer about 2 months ago. Donna and Keith Fitzpatrick called me this morning. They have been great friends for years and their kids grew up together. All are devastated. Ike wanted his classmates to know and has given permission for his cell number 469-505-9077 to be posted. Ike and Ann celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on September 3rd this year. Please call Ike. I know he would like to hear from us.
Comments: Sharon, next time stop in! We are usually here and would ❤️❤️ To see you!
Comments: Lynell, I actually drove by your house this morning and the artificial turf looks great. Unfortunately, my front yard is a lot bigger, even though I may consider doing something like that.
Comments: Just wanted to wish my roomie an early happy birthday and hope it's a great one. That would be Pat Vessels!
Comments: Forget the request on Bobby Newman, I did moresearch and this Newman was born in 1929, sure wasn’t our Bob. I try to keep up with checking the obits on classmates, thats how we were able to locate Gary Streznik and another from class of 66. Thanks anyway, I always appreciate this classes help in locating our 65ers as well.
Comments: I have a question, since we (class of 65) do not have a class site anymore, I ran across an obituary in San Antonio recently that specified a Robert “Bobby” Newman had passed away, born in 1947. I knew Bobby taught in San Antonio and was wondering if he was our classmate. It was short and did not specify. If anyone knows of his passing please email me. I am at least trying to keep a list of our 65 classmates who have passed. I appreciate your help. Thank you.
Comments: Sharon, just a suggestion and likely not politically correct, but we had our teeny lawn replaced with artificial turf. It’s green year round, and low maintenance other than the neighbor’s leaves. Next solution is to move to a condo.
Comments: Just wanted to tell everyone to have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend. We are staying inside and watching some football, finally! Happy B-day to Phyllis. Also, does anyone know of a good sprinkler company. Steve and I are too crippled to do yard work anymore and I don't want my grass to die! |
