Comments: Phillis, Sharlene did not have COVID-19, but she had dealt with health issues for years. She lived in Northern California, and is survived by her loving husband, and her older brother and sister, plus a devoted niece and many other loyal friends and loved ones. You’re right that the current mess is preventing a large gathering to mourn her.
Comments: Phyllis, This is a difficult time for the family. They are spread out all over the U S. There is nothing to report now.
Comments: I looked online for an obituary for Sharlene Ruth Houghtaling Alexander, but could not find one. Then it occurred to me that perhaps the COVID-19 crisis was preventing or delaying her funeral. How sad that so many are dying alone and cannot even be properly mourned.
Comments: It is with great sorrow that I have to tell you that Sharlene Houghtaling Alexander past away earlier today. Sharlene has been struggling with several medical issues for a number of years. For those of you in the SOC class of 1963 will remember her as being named Most Beautiful. She was just as beautiful on the inside. Heaven has gained a true angel today.
Comments: Good question Pat. I wonder also. My nieces‘ husband takes it. We’re spending our quarantine at our small ranch outside of Houston. Here we can get outside and have chores to do to keep us busy. Plus we see the beautiful Texas wild flowers.
Comments: Hey Peaches - have you taken hydroxychloroquine for your arthritis? Just thought about your experiences with it.
Comments: Please be safe and well, everyone!
Comments: Please take care of yourselves and stay safe, everybody.
Comments: Gods hand upon me. In January I had open heart surgery with 3 bypasses at the VA Hospital. I am doing great now and have been released to drive again. I have had numerous friends pray for me including fellow SOC friends and I want thank each and everyone for their prayers. God knew in advance what was coming to America but I didn't. His grace is sufficient.
Comments: We did go through the polio virus in our day that affected several of our friends back then, including Tim Wright, my classmate David Robertson. Remember when we stood in line in the school halls getting our shot for polio.. it was pretty scary for kids of our age then.
Comments: It occurred to me that back in our day, we would not have known about corona virus. It would have been business as usual. There would have been no Breaking News stories, and stores would have plenty of Clorox, alcohol and toilet paper in stock. I wonder if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that we know so much now.
Comments: Hope all the class of '63 are doing well.
Comments: Hello everyone, It’s been months since I’ve commented here. Yes, As time goes by,(seems so quickly now) we are losing some of our classmates. I too, remember them so well in the halls of SOC. I’m so happy that I went to the 55th reunion. It was a small group, but, thankfully, I was fortunate to be able to visit with those classmates and especially with two friends who are now gone. We do not know what tomorrow has in store for any of us...young or old. I’m thankful for each day.
Comments: I saw the list of those who have departed this life. Taken back by the number. To those of us still here LIVE WELL
Comments: I noticed Gary Strzinek’s name was not listed on memorial page as he passed last year.
Comments: Wow, I went back and looked at the Memoriam page too. It is a staggering number of people, including people who looked young and healthy the last time we saw them, and some I hadn't even known -- or remembered -- that we had lost. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us. All we can do is to live as fully as we can today and to always tell our loved ones how very much we love them, in case we never get another chance to do so.
Comments: Hi everyone, I Remember my dad going to his 60th reunion at Wilmer Hutchins highschool..He said there were fewer and fewer people around each year. Well guess what,we are almost to our 60th and there are fewer each year. So hang in there everyone I would like to see all of you again.
Comments: Very sorry to learn the news about Ada Mooney. I took a minute to go to our Memoriam page and review the list of other classmates who've passed on. I am amazed at the sheer number. So many faces I can recall from way back when we were eighteen and full of vigor and looking forward to whatever the future might bring. It is a major achievement to still be here as 2020 unfolds.
Comments: Our classmate and friend, Ada Jensen Mooney, has passed away. She was an important researcher in getting our group together after graduation and a hard worker on the reunions. May Ada Rest In Peace. Celebration of Life arrangements have been made for Ada. Services will be at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall Family visitation will be Services will be:
Comments: The ribbon-cutting at the renovated SOC building is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, January 11th. Some of the students are also planning a march from their interim facility at Village Fair to the renovated building.
Comments: There's going to be an Open House at SOC on Saturday, so that alumni, members of the public, etc., can see the new facility. I saw it on the news, but didn't catch the time.
Comments: Plyllis, exactly! I remember those futuristic displays at the fair. We’d be really old at the turn of the century, but we’d wear silver jumpsuits to cook effortlessly. Happy 2020, SOCites!
Comments: Gosh, when we were kids and first realized that we might live to see the 21st Century, we thought, "but we'll be really old." Now, here we are, 20 years later. Happy New Year, everyone!
Comments: , Happy 2020 to you all, may it be better than 2019 and may your health br renewed.
Comments: Thanks, Ronnie, you Adamson boy you. I sort of want to enroll as a sophomore at SOC now!
Comments: Here is another look inside the refurbished S.O.C. HS http://dfwtex.com/SOC/SOC_rebuild-12-22-2019.mp4 It looks great. Best, Ronnie Jones WHA HS
Comments: I have mixed feelings about this year. We’ve had so many losses in our SOC family. Here’s a little bit of cheer about our beloved school. https://dfw.cbslocal.com/video/4261396-south-oak-cliff-high-about-to-welcome-back-students/
Comments: Greetings all. I have been missing from these pages for months as -- due to some unknown computer glitch -- I have been unable to access the site, until today. It is truly sad to learn of those we have lost during that time. I didn't know about Mr. Manton, even though I tried to keep up with the family after our Church -- Trinity Presbyterian, once presided over by Tom's Father -- closed down in 2008. I did see Tom and his daughter Deedee (Cordelia) at Norma's a few months ago, but am not sure they recognized me. Lynell, I, too, can still recite the Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, as well as a lot of the other poetry Mr. Waddill had us memorize. Sharon Reeves, I'm so sorry to have missed our mutual birthday; Happy Belated Birthday! I cannot come to the December luncheon -- my sister Diane and I spend New Year's in Las Vegas every year -- but will be there with you in spirit. Happy Holidays to one and all! ![]()
