Comments: I saw a notice on Facebook that our classmate Eddie Bruner passed away today. I don't know about services, but if I see something I will post it.
Comments: Hope everyone is okay. No new posts in a long time. Dan, it sounds as if you had a great trip. Glad you made it back safely. Stayed up entirely too late last night, but seeing the Cowboys beat Philly was worth it.
Comments: HI everyone.I haven't posted in quite awhile. IM still kicking here in Paris ,Texas. JUst,got back from 58 day camping trip to Newmexico,Arizona,Utah,Idaho,Wyoming, and Colorado. we saw some beautiful country and met some very nice people. We pulled a fifth wheel Trailer close to 8,000 miles and 23 camp grounds. We wanted to be home so I cut the trip short by a week and drove,.930 miles straight only stopping for fuel and food..home never looked so good. Went to see my sister sandy class of 66 in Pennsylvania.drove 1330 miles all day and night then drove the South Carolina ,spent the night and drove another 1100 miles. I must enter one of those 24 hour road rallies. I'm home and next year it wI'll be short trips to Texas ,Arkansas and Colorado.some of you need to hook up your trailer and lets.roll together. Stay thirsty my friends
Comments: Thank you, John. You said eloquently what bumbles through my head.1983 was one of my most difficult years, but my difficulties can't hold a candle to what some of us have endured. We have lost so many from our class, some of whom I envied from the depths of my being. Mary, with her beautiful voice and beloved personality, Sue Zan with her sexy lipstick and cute brother, Dawn who was one of the sweetest people ever. And on and on. I can't sing a note, often forget my lipstick, and my sweetness went out the window a while back. But I'm still here and so are you, and we came from a special time and school.
Comments: Well said, John. Hope everyone enjoys a brighter tomorrow.
Comments: For reasons unknown I woke up early this morning thinking about Gary Tilory. He was a bit of a scoundrel in Singing Hills during my junior high years. Did I imagine he later lived in Burkburnett, Texas? So I got out of bed and pulled out our 20th Reunion 1983 Class Directory ... the one that allowed us to post a blurb about our lives at that point. Sure enough in '83 Gary was a Supervisor for Southwestern Bell and living in Burkburnett. "Burk", as my family called it, was a podunk town near the Red River and Oklahoma border. My Uncle and Aunt owned the hardware store there and I spent many wonderful summers with them as a boy. In 1954 the "business district" was a single street, two blocks long that included an ice house, theater, bank, cafe, beauty shop, Hatch's Hardware, some other small establishments and a grain silo at the end of Main Street. It was difficult to comprehend that 30 years later someone from Dallas (Tilory) would choose to settle there. I made some coffee and continued to page through the 1983 Directory. It pleased me to see so many of us had become "educators". Many had traveled and worked in foreign countries. There were quite a few who out of ambition, or perhaps necessity, had their own businesses. Some had as many as four children, some had very young children late in life, some had chosen to not have kids. By 1983 you could tell many had changed partners. A few were widowed. Some had never married. 1983 was an interesting junction in life for our group. As I read on a bit of sadness set in. Now with the benefit of another 33 years having passed, we know how some of our peers lumbered forward in time toward a variety of predestined discontents. Circumstances conspired. Our parents aged and suffered. We watched our children thrive and/or veer way off track. We wonder if we are the author of our own accidents? And so I sip more coffee and ponder how it is that I made it to age 71 and so many others did not? Back in 1983 it seemed we were invincible. Now the unthinkable feels more like the inevitable. I feel undeserving but at the same time, amazingly thankful. Is it naive to treasure this old directory and my SOC yearbooks? Are they not central to the roots of my past?
Comments: Phyllis, I agree. Where is everybody? I know we have lurkers.

Comments: Sandy, I didn't know Gray in school, but I knew who he was and thought he was nice looking and very smart. I'm so sorry for his family. Looks like he had a happy and successful life.
Comments: How kind of you to post the obit for Gray. I also saw it this morning. Gray went to my church, St. Paul Lutheran on Marsalis. He was the most handsome boy I'd ever seen, next to Doug Hutt, and he was always nice to everyone. Tanya dated him for quiet a awhile. Sad news indeed. Condolences to his family and wife.

Comments: I remember Ginger's beautiful voice in school. May she rest in peace.
Comments: this was posted a few days ago on Facebook also. Dear Friends of my mother, Ginger Hearn; For those that do not know, Ginger is currently at Hillside Medical Lodge in Gatesville Texas struggling with the cancer, a broken hip, and broken pelvic bone. She will be staying here as long as she survives. I recently visited her for a week and she has not been well, but we had a good visit and was glad to spend what time I could with her. If you would like to visit her, and she is awake when you do, she would love the visit and kind support of getting her drinks, foot rubs, and back scratches. The info for Hillside is: Hillside Medical Lodge My name has been legally changed three years ago, so any questions or concerns can be sent to my email at: athena.del.aenor@gmail.com I will post any final updates on my mom’s page here when that time comes. Take care and visit my mother if you can. Thank you so much for being her friend.
Comments: Betty Gibbs has been keeping up with Ginger Hearn the last few weeks. She received the below information today and posted on facebook. It is with sorrow that I report the passing of our friend, Ginger Hearn, SOC class of '63. She went peacefully from this life surrounded by the new friends she made In Gatesville, TX during her last years. There will be no service, as she chose to be cremated. Because of her life-long love of music, remembrance gifts can be made to - First Baptist Church Music Dept. A potluck luncheon will be given in her honor sometime in early September. I will post details when they are finalized. This was Ginger's request and the ladies of First Baptist will host it. They came alongside to love her when she moved to Gatesville, then stayed with her in shifts during her time in the hospice facility. Truly God's gift to our friend.
Comments: Charlotte, are you enjoying the cool climes of Colorado this summer? My ex, Randy Cameron, still lives in Creede and is a fly fishing guide. He lets me know how the weather is frequently. I get to laugh though when it's 6 below up there and it's a balmy 60 down here. Hope you're having a great time.
Comments: Through Bill Forston (SOC '62) I just learned that his old neighbor on Waweenoc and our SOC/Zumwalt classmate John Peck died in a tragic accident in 1991. John was 46 at the time and was employed as a commercial diver and SCUBA diving instructor in the Kilgore area. I spoke yesterday with his former boss Dick Wilgus to hear the details. The two of them were doing a commercial dive at a power plant in Tatum, Texas. The job was a routine inspection of equipment below the dam. Wilgus surfaced and waited for Peck to follow him up. When John failed to surface, Wilgus went back in to check but it was too late to rescue him. John was divorced from Marie at the time and he had three daughters and a grandson. He is buried in Longview. John Wesley Peck, Jr. Sept. 23, 1944 - March 8, 1991
