Yep, he's a man with a mission.  His sister, Virginia, is in our class.

Hey class of '63.  I have a problem and hope maybe one of you can help.  I need someone who can play music at our big 50th Reunion.  I'm having trouble this time around getting a DJ, or at at least one who doesn't want a fortune!!

Do any of you or your friends do part-time DJ work??  I don't need an MC or someone to do anything but provide the speakers and to play music.  And yes I would pay them and offer free dinner each night. [smile]  Seriously, if you know someone PLEASE let me know ASAP!!  Reach me by clicking the red email icon above.

Thanks so much for any help you can give me!!!  I'm hoping one of you may be able or know a friend who has good speakers and lots of tunes on the laptop and would like to do a private gig for a SOCite for money and food!!

From today's Texas Lawyer:

Guinness World Record Holder Larry Macon Knows How to Go the Distance

Miriam Rozen, Texas Lawyer

July 1, 2016

If you want to catch Larry Macon, try looking for the San Antonio lawyer at the finish line of a marathon race.

A partner in Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, Macon has logged enough miles running marathons to complete more than ten Texas to New York round trips.

So far in 2016, Macon has run at least 80 marathons. Not bad for a lawyer who has also celebrated more than 70 birthdays.

Holding a Guinness world record for the most marathons run in one year—a record he has broken five times—Macon expects to run races in Seattle and Portland this summer.

Macon doesn't even worry about crazy airline logistics stopping him from participating in races.

"I usually have a back up plan so if I miss one race I can go another," Macon told Texas Lawyer.

Indeed, the Akin Gump partner even almost finished the Boston Marathon in 2013, when two bombs exploded near the finish line, a tragic event that left many dead and wounded and was later determined to be the work of two brothers. It also stopped the race and Macon.

"I'm the luckiest man in the world," Macon said after that race. "I was at mile 25, when I was stopped and was told, 'You can't go to the finish line.' "

Although some runners complained at the time about being halted, Macon had perspective."They had to understand, something had happened that was slightly more important than the race," Macon said.

He then started on a tortuous trip to return to Texas, which included running an additional nonrace mile to catch one of only a few cabs and finding himself penniless and hungry because he had left his belongings at a hotel, snagging a free meal from a restaurant employee who wanted to honor his race performance. When he finally boarded a plane, Macon, who was still wearing his running clothes, recalled that his appearance triggered a few skeptical glances from fellow passengers.

In the end, Macon, who in his professional, nonrunning career, has logged more than 30 years of first-chair trial experience and tried more than 100 jury cases, did not get credit with Guinness folks for that April 2013 race. But he did get one with the Boston Marathon officials, and he has continued to go the 26.2188 miles of distance multiple times on average each week.

Good Morning Class of '63!  I've noticed that this time around no one from '63 has registered to attend our 50th Reunion.  Many of you have joined us in the past.  Hope we haven't offended you? [tongue]  I've loaded our Invitation  and the Registration form as well as the 2 page info sheet onto our site.  All you have to do is go to our site www.soc1966.com and on the 50th Reunion page there are icons to click.

Martha Bass, surely you and your sister Judy are coming!  Y'all and Charlotte have always attended and are a great addition!  [smile]

Please, if you look through pictures on this site, remember prints are available through Smugmug. The company is nice to deal with. I urge you to print the photos that can never be replaced. Memories are valuable. So many of us have gone on, photos become more precious every day.

This weather is crazy.  Had our annual Peden Reunion in Canton this past Saturday and we had a great time.  However, it poured down rain for 20 minutes and then the humidity was so bad I could barely breathe.  It's definitely time to look for an air-conditioned place to have it every year.  Us old folks just can't handle it.

I wondered the same thing, Sharon.
Sure hope everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. Take a moment to reflect on the meaning of the day.
Thank you to all our Veterans. Without them, our safe and wonderful country would be gone. We would speak Japanese or German.

Very sweet words Tanya and Lynell concerning Mike Young...poor guy was so miserable and bored with retirement he stayed on that phone trying to keep in contact with so many of us..he checked on me on a regular basis after Barney died..he dreamed of moving to the Carribean and live on the beach as soon as his boys graduated...Barney used to invite him up to go on fishing trips with a group from high school and he loved it. Wish I could have attended his service but is a 4 hour round trip drive so I couldnt make it... rest in peace Mike...look for your fishing buddies!!

Was sorry to see that my favorite sports writer ever, Blackie Sherrod, died last Thursday.  I started reading his columns in the late '50's and continued until he retired.  I have probably read all the novels created by the writers he mentored, Bud Shrake, Dan Jenkins, Cary Cartwright, etc.  I guess that cements my "jock" persona. Ha.

Did any of you get to go to Mike's memorial? I did enjoy his occasional posts on FB the last couple of years. It was good to see him again. RIP Mike. Losing our peers is difficult.
The water in Houston is finally gone, but devestation remains for those poor people. Our ranch is Sooo green. We need to shred our pastures but the ground is too soft. The tractor would rut it. I hope our rains are gone for a while. We lost so many trees from a horrible drought and now some things are drowning.
Happy May Day all!

A little more information on Mike Young.  Mike played football for SOC.  He had a hard time during that time with his step-father, and left the home.  He stayed with friends, one of which was Burl Heinz, who was a great friend to Mike.  Mike told me he had a short fuse in school, but that was based on his homelife.  He compensated for that in life working for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of America in the insurance business.  He obtained his law degree and moved to Florida where he practiced.  He loved the ocean, loved to deep dive and loved traveling except when the non-smoking on the planes began, he hated that.  When he moved back to Texas, he got into the pool business.  His son by his first marriage is a retired policeman.  When he married Lisa, she had other children, whom he adopted.  Their father was Pakistani and stole the kids taking them to Pakistan.  Mike, went over there himself and retrieved those kids, brought them back to America and gave them the best life they could have ever had.  When he retired, which he did not want to do, but his health required it, he started calling all his classmates and not only reconnecting, but getting them to laugh at his jokes.  He would always call here and talk in Spanish to me, where I could respond and blow his mind.  In any case, Mike was a wonderful and funny person in life, a good provider and a loyal friend.  He will be missed along with his surprising phone calls.  He was quite the character, but a delightful one.  R.I.P. Mike Young.
