Comments: On behalf of myself & the rest of the Reunion Committee, we cordially invite you to attend the class of 1966 50th Reunion. It will be Sept. 23 & 24. I have uploaded the Invitation & the Registration form (along with a 2 pg info sheet) to our site on the 50th Reunion pg. If you go to it & click on the "50" image the Invite will open. Comments: I hope several of you made donations to his Go Fund account as it was much needed by his wife and family. I was not able to attend but did send a card. Cards are always so much appreciated by the family. The comments made here would really be nice for Lisa to hear. If you need his address contact me.
Comments: Also saw tonight that Peggy Lockridge Redmon's husband is very ill and not expected to live through the night...sending prayers for Peggy and her family!
Comments: Very sweet words Tanya and Lynell concerning Mike Young...poor guy was so miserable and bored with retirement he stayed on that phone trying to keep in contact with so many of us..he checked on me on a regular basis after Barney died..he dreamed of moving to the Carribean and live on the beach as soon as his boys graduated...Barney used to invite him up to go on fishing trips with a group from high school and he loved it. Wish I could have attended his service but is a 4 hour round trip drive so I couldnt make it... rest in peace Mike...look for your fishing buddies!!
Comments: Was sorry to see that my favorite sports writer ever, Blackie Sherrod, died last Thursday. I started reading his columns in the late '50's and continued until he retired. I have probably read all the novels created by the writers he mentored, Bud Shrake, Dan Jenkins, Cary Cartwright, etc. I guess that cements my "jock" persona. Ha.
Comments: Did any of you get to go to Mike's memorial? I did enjoy his occasional posts on FB the last couple of years. It was good to see him again. RIP Mike. Losing our peers is difficult. The water in Houston is finally gone, but devestation remains for those poor people. Our ranch is Sooo green. We need to shred our pastures but the ground is too soft. The tractor would rut it. I hope our rains are gone for a while. We lost so many trees from a horrible drought and now some things are drowning. Happy May Day all!
Comments: A little more information on Mike Young. Mike played football for SOC. He had a hard time during that time with his step-father, and left the home. He stayed with friends, one of which was Burl Heinz, who was a great friend to Mike. Mike told me he had a short fuse in school, but that was based on his homelife. He compensated for that in life working for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of America in the insurance business. He obtained his law degree and moved to Florida where he practiced. He loved the ocean, loved to deep dive and loved traveling except when the non-smoking on the planes began, he hated that. When he moved back to Texas, he got into the pool business. His son by his first marriage is a retired policeman. When he married Lisa, she had other children, whom he adopted. Their father was Pakistani and stole the kids taking them to Pakistan. Mike, went over there himself and retrieved those kids, brought them back to America and gave them the best life they could have ever had. When he retired, which he did not want to do, but his health required it, he started calling all his classmates and not only reconnecting, but getting them to laugh at his jokes. He would always call here and talk in Spanish to me, where I could respond and blow his mind. In any case, Mike was a wonderful and funny person in life, a good provider and a loyal friend. He will be missed along with his surprising phone calls. He was quite the character, but a delightful one. R.I.P. Mike Young.
Comments: I found this obituary for Mike Young on the funeral home website. "A memorial service for Mike Young, 71, of Grandview, Texas will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at North Cleburne Baptist Church with the Rev. James Cloud officiating. Mike passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 in Cleburne, Texas. He was born in Dallas, Texas on April 22, 1945, the son of Peggy (McClure) and Rom Young. Mike was an attorney and also owned a swimming pool supply company. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mike is survived by his wife, Lisa Young of Grandview; sons, Mikey Young and Jeremy Young, both of Grandview, and Chris Young and wife, Lisa, of Midlothian, Texas; daughters Sheena Raza and husband, Hassan, of Lewisville, Texas, Danielle Raza of Fort Worth, Texas and Melanie Dillon and husband, Phil, of Maypearl, Texas; brother, Pat Young and wife, Roxanne; sister, Mary Kate Young and husband, Trent, all of Dallas, Texas; and grandchildren, Cassidy Young, Emily Dillon and Hannah Dillon."
Comments: Sharon, Parts of north west Houston are still under water. It is such a sad situation. You say 5" we had 16 inches in one night at our ranch near Brenham last week. The same for Houston for days. We have so many bayous and creeks it is inevitable with that much rain I suppose. I hope your boss' place is out from under...what a nightmare. I feel very fortunate to be dry. So sorry to learn of Mike Youngs death. I saw it on FB along with the GoFund me request. Very sad indeed.
Comments: Lisa Young has asked me to let everyone know that they are accepting donations through a go fund me account posted on Mike's wall to help pay for funeral expenses. Also, I have shared this on my facebook page. Mike loved his SOC classmates and called several of us frequently to try to keep in touch. Please give out of the generosity of your heart to help a dear friend's family in need.
Comments: Brenda, I did not know Mike Young well at SOC. He seemed like a nice young man. May he rest in eternal peace.

Comments: I hope Brenda Kemp will forgive me for cutting and pasting her post on Facebook. "I received a message from Mike Young's wife asking me to inform the SOC group of the arrangements for his service...it will be Friday April 29th at 10am... North Cleburne Babtist Church 1008 N. Anglin St. Cleburne, Tx 76031" It's sad to hear another Class of '63 member has passed. Mike's birthday was yesterday. He had a heart attack.
Comments: To all our Houston area friends and classmates, hope you are all okay. The country club that my boss owns in Spring is under water and we haven't even finished the last insurance claim for storms and flooding! I think Dallas got off light even though my rain gauge said 5+ inches over 2 days.
Comments: Tonight's TV news features a story about our beloved SOC. The DISD has not maintained the building worth a hoot, according to the my interpretation of the news. The students have walked out of the building on occasion. Termites swarmed in the clinic. They want a new building. The story showed the chemistry lab in disarray. Mr. Headrick must be rolling over in his grave. That room was always in order. Sometimes progress hurts. DISD needs another building to ignore.

Comments: More good news, just received my 1095 B in the mail, as I understand form it is to prove to IRS that I have insurance and is a precursor to Cadillac tax on health insurance postponed by administration until next year after the election .
Comments: Sandy, it's awful for people who are still working! It's also sad to have to sell shares while the market isn't doing so hot.
Comments: Yep, we're in that RMD category too. Or at least Don is! We too worked long hours and made it a point to save a portion of our earnings every year. Now the government is forcing us to take some of it out whether we want to or not! I can hardly wait until I also have to start taking RMD. Bah hum bug!!
Comments: We are feeling the RMD reality, too, now paying big taxes on money we struggled to save years ago. Ow! Sharon, I'm following the SOC "We want a new school" story, too. Have to wonder why the school wasn't maintained. The latest story I saw was about termites in the clinic. We had termites here, and we called the exterminator. Guess we should have opted for a new house. Silly us!
Comments: Phil, I share your pain. That's the worst part of my annual physical exam ... when the doctor does that "RMD" thing.
Comments: Have you all been reading about the plight of SOC? I guess things really have been going downhill for a long time. In preparation for our 25th Reunion, the committee went to SOC on a Saturday morning, and after all that time, I swear not even a floor tile had been changed out. Everything looked the same, except there were trophy cases lining the halls! If DISD elects to build a new school, where will it be located? Is all that land still at the back of the building?
Comments: I guess I'm really old. I did my first RMD I don't know if it is good or bad news but actuarial tables say I have another 24 years!
