Comments: Ken and Beverly....so sorry for your loss...my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Comments: Just wanted our SOC friends to know that Ken Haas, my husband, lost his mom, Marie, today. I know many of you knew her and know what a sweet, sweet lady she was. Would appreciate your prayers for Ken and our family during this difficult time. Thanks.
Comments: I'm sorry, Peaches. I would like to write her or send her a card. It may be the 'same situation' as my mother's and if so, I guess it will stay quiet. If anyone finds out, let me know. There was a short time, several years back that I emailed her and she emailed me back, then it stopped.. We just don't know what the future is for any of us, do we..? It's just a day by day...journey. My mother sang the song, 'I don't know about tomorrow" several times..in my youth. She had her favorites that she would sing as solos... I've sung it at least once.. Have a nice week everyone. I may be moving to Gatesville, next Monday...
Comments: Ginger, according to her daughter I believe it is HUSH HUSH!
Comments: Kellie McFarlane Buchanan's birthday is today.. She's Henry and Claudia's daughter. I have her on FB. She's 44 today.. I think I remember when I was 44..?? I have tried several times to find out 'where' Claudia is... Does anybody else know..? It seems to be very 'hush-hush'.. If anyone knows 'more than me'...please send me a message..
Comments: Sharon and Peaches, You and your mom's are in my prayers. I know this path and it is a difficult one to maneuver. Bless you both and your moms. Peaches....I am so glad my Girl Scout Leader enjoyed her flowers for a little while.
Comments: Peaches mom and my mom are at the same facility and might get to be wing mates. Said my prayer for your sweet mom. My mom is doing really well, physically, but her mind is going quickly. But she usually has a smile on her face.
Comments: I just received word that mother is having her swallow test done at 2:30 today to see if they can start giving her some food. Please pray that God has healed her swallowing. Please stop what you are doing now and ask our Heavenly Father to do this. This would give mother some hope and something to do with her time. It has been very difficult. She still can not move without having help to get her in or out of bed or doing anything. She has been a little more alert in the evenings when I visit her the last two days. Charlotte, your beautiful flowers lasted about 1 1/2 weeks and she bragged about them all the time!
Comments: 3 hots and a cot..? Never knew that..! That's funny... Have never 'run' around with people involved with prisons..before.. Thanks, Lynell...working on it.
Comments: Don't the customers of TDCJ call it three hots and a cot? Betcha you'll find something in Gatesville more suitable, Ginger! Good luck to you!
Comments: My storage that I've been paying on for a long time. Has paintings, albums...'my annuals'. mementoes of mine and my children..furniture... I'm trying to take care of this..keep, give away, sell, throw away.. Two units, that I need to work with and empty over a period of time.. Gatesville is not 'that scenic a town'...believe me. Have distant relatives down there. My mother and my aunt were born in Coryell County...My sister lived and died down there.. It's gone on long enough.. Gatesville has 7 prisons..Very little housing...unless a person wants a 'cell and 3 meals' a day... Ft Hood is 'down the road'... I think it's prettier than Killeen, on the other side of Ft Hood.. I call Killeen, the ugliest town in Texas...!
Comments: Ginger, what is in Gatesville that you are waiting on? Peaches, how is your mother? Please tell her we are pulling for her and think of her often.
Comments: Wake Up...! This group goes to sleep for days and days... I may be moving to Gatesville, if I can get this worked out... Gee, I've waited a year... (I sent it again...Diane...)
Comments: Ginger, please email again. Some how I lost your email. Sounds good for the reunion.
Comments: We are looking for a 4th woman to share a room, Saturday night, for the class reunion. Please get in touch with Joanne Lachnitt Dembroski, Sherry (Sharon) Locke Taylor or me. See you at the reunion.
Comments: Oh, Robert, you are my hero! Still in love as much if not more than 50 years ago. You two have achieved what most have wanted in life! It proves that marriage is wonderful if you marry the right person. Those good and bad times are what mold a successful marriage. Here is the many more years together!
Comments: My parents were married 51 yrs....and that was their second marriage..! I ask, "How did they do that.?"... Staying together that long and people that live in the same house, that long...and there's an occasional teacher...that teach in the same school for 30 to 40+ yrs.. How do you do it..? I guess you find your 'soulmate'...real fast...! Congratulations... It's refreshing...when we hear of this.. It gives us hope...for all mankind..!
Comments: Oh my!!! 50 is the GOLDEN one! Congratulations you two!!!
Comments: 50 years and counting, Yes my young bride LaVeta and I have been married 50 years. I hope we can make it another 50 years. I love you more each day. ![]() ![]() ![]()
Comments: The road repair dept..had those red lanterns, too. We would take one of those occasionally and put them on somebody's porch. My mother had to tell me what the 'significance of Red Lanterns'..was.. Those had to be more expensive for them to replace than the fire bombs/smudge balls. Richard K., an earlier graduate of SOC..his dad was chairman of the deacons at our church. Well, Richard use to take all us kids in search of 'haunted houses' and red lanterns..Funny thing about these church kids, they are always like that..We always had those kind of escapades on Sunday night after church.. At that age, I'm not sure of how much spiritual experiences, we were getting on Sunday night..and then there were the Hot Fudge Sundaes at Kip's.. We had to get all that fun out including 'refreshments' on Sunday nights.. Now I truly miss Kips. I can do without the 'silly other things' we did, but a Kip's Hot Fudge Sundae would be nice..!
Comments: Yes, I am talking about those black bombs with flames in the top that the highway department used on the roads for warnings etc. I wish i still had them....haaaa! They do make duplicates now in lively colors!
Comments: Charlotte, are you talking about those black bombs? They looked like flaming bowling balls?
Comments: One time I even had those smudge pots in my yard along with the toilet paper and a bunch of signs....Daddy was furious about the paper. I remember him using the hose with the strongest water sprayer he had to try and spray it out of our tall oaks. What a mess! I haven't seen a rolled house in forever!!
Comments: It was an honor to have your house rolled..even though my father didn't think so.. Okay, just to clarify.. We did Johnny's in our jammies, and then we did Johnny's another time, with dates(no jammies). That's when we did Jackie's house, too.. Those were the Days, My Friend, those were the Days..!..
Comments: The house down the street has a teen son, and they frequently get rolled. It's still going on! A great tradition started by SOCites, no doubt. Betcha these kids are paying more than a nickel a roll?
Comments: The huge oak tree in front of my house was TP'd once and I never found out who did it. But my brother was so embarrassed. He came home from college late Saturday night and brought a girl and they pulled in our driveway to that scene. Every once in a while, I'll see a house that has been rolled and I have to giggle.
Comments: Char....we crossed Marsalis in our jammies..!! We were 'wild and crazy idiots' I guess. I remember.. Henry's house was 'down the street' from Mike Black's.. I don't remember anyone else's..house..? We did do Johnny.. We did Johnny's another time, on a date night.. We also did Jackie Moe's... on that same date night.. Can't remember 'who' I was with, but probably Gary.. My father would say to me after our house was rolled..(and it had rained).."I better not ever catch you doing this..!". Oh my goodness, I was 'bad'... The colored TP was 5 cents a roll.. Every once in a while, I would see a house in Memphis that was rolled..Brought back memories..
Comments: OKAY!!! Johnny's house was too far away from Vanette Lane for us to paper that night. AND I don't know where Henry's house was....BUT...Tah Dah!!!!!.... Mike BLACK's house was just behind us...so we probably did that....AND....we thought about Donna Pool's house....we were so innocent and young! |
