Comments: 50 years and counting, Yes my young bride LaVeta and I have been married 50 years. I hope we can make it another 50 years. I love you more each day. ![]() ![]() ![]()
Comments: The road repair dept..had those red lanterns, too. We would take one of those occasionally and put them on somebody's porch. My mother had to tell me what the 'significance of Red Lanterns'..was.. Those had to be more expensive for them to replace than the fire bombs/smudge balls. Richard K., an earlier graduate of SOC..his dad was chairman of the deacons at our church. Well, Richard use to take all us kids in search of 'haunted houses' and red lanterns..Funny thing about these church kids, they are always like that..We always had those kind of escapades on Sunday night after church.. At that age, I'm not sure of how much spiritual experiences, we were getting on Sunday night..and then there were the Hot Fudge Sundaes at Kip's.. We had to get all that fun out including 'refreshments' on Sunday nights.. Now I truly miss Kips. I can do without the 'silly other things' we did, but a Kip's Hot Fudge Sundae would be nice..!
Comments: Yes, I am talking about those black bombs with flames in the top that the highway department used on the roads for warnings etc. I wish i still had them....haaaa! They do make duplicates now in lively colors!
Comments: Charlotte, are you talking about those black bombs? They looked like flaming bowling balls?
Comments: One time I even had those smudge pots in my yard along with the toilet paper and a bunch of signs....Daddy was furious about the paper. I remember him using the hose with the strongest water sprayer he had to try and spray it out of our tall oaks. What a mess! I haven't seen a rolled house in forever!!
Comments: It was an honor to have your house rolled..even though my father didn't think so.. Okay, just to clarify.. We did Johnny's in our jammies, and then we did Johnny's another time, with dates(no jammies). That's when we did Jackie's house, too.. Those were the Days, My Friend, those were the Days..!..
Comments: The house down the street has a teen son, and they frequently get rolled. It's still going on! A great tradition started by SOCites, no doubt. Betcha these kids are paying more than a nickel a roll?
Comments: The huge oak tree in front of my house was TP'd once and I never found out who did it. But my brother was so embarrassed. He came home from college late Saturday night and brought a girl and they pulled in our driveway to that scene. Every once in a while, I'll see a house that has been rolled and I have to giggle.
Comments: Char....we crossed Marsalis in our jammies..!! We were 'wild and crazy idiots' I guess. I remember.. Henry's house was 'down the street' from Mike Black's.. I don't remember anyone else's..house..? We did do Johnny.. We did Johnny's another time, on a date night.. We also did Jackie Moe's... on that same date night.. Can't remember 'who' I was with, but probably Gary.. My father would say to me after our house was rolled..(and it had rained).."I better not ever catch you doing this..!". Oh my goodness, I was 'bad'... The colored TP was 5 cents a roll.. Every once in a while, I would see a house in Memphis that was rolled..Brought back memories..
Comments: OKAY!!! Johnny's house was too far away from Vanette Lane for us to paper that night. AND I don't know where Henry's house was....BUT...Tah Dah!!!!!.... Mike BLACK's house was just behind us...so we probably did that....AND....we thought about Donna Pool's house....we were so innocent and young!
Comments: I don't remember if I was driving that 55 Ford or not. I just remember when they 'spotted us', we took off running 'for our lives'... I should ask on OCB if anyone remembers a group of SOC girls invading their Bonfire..? Probably was our Junior Year.. I just remember running and we had our Deb jackets..it's in storage with that Square Dance picture...different box..Hope they're okay..after all these years..I met a woman in Memphis that moved to Japan and had all her stuff in storage for 14 yrs.. I'm not there yet... Slumber Party...We laughed our heads off.. papered Johnny's house, Henry's house, and I don't remember if we did Mike Black's house or not..? What if, we had been arrested.. in our PJ's..?
Comments: Oh my!!!! I had forgotten about that!!!!! Haaaaaaaaa. Who were we with? Were you driving? Do you remember the Slumber party at your house??? We walked around the neighborhood in our Jammies in the middle of the night.
Comments: Charlotte, do you remember the time we went to the Bonfire...for another high school..? I think it was Sunset and I think we had our SOC letter jackets on.. I remember running. Seems like it was at Kiest Park..? We could be 'extinct' if they had caught us..!
Comments: Thanks...Char....
Comments: Hi ginger, I'm glad you received the pic. we were such young'uns I think I answered your questions in emails. I did send the first pic to the old address. You can savee that pic and have someone print it for you.
Comments: Okay, thanks Charlotte.. Who's Ronnie Brooks' partner? I can't remember her name. I didn't remember Ronnie until I saw that picture.. Cute kids! I've got that picture, but I'll have to dig it out of a box one of these..days.
Comments: Char, What email address did you send it to...? I only have the 'yahoo' address now.. I shut down the ATT.net address when I left Memphis.. Oh no, is it lost..? Is it the 4th Grade Square Dance Festival picture.. I love that picture.. I don't think I got it..
Comments: Ginger, did you get the photo I sentry your email address?
Comments: Bruce Pfeiffer, Adamson 70. He was a cheerleader at Adamson and a friend of my sister.. Anyway, we've been discussing problems on Facebook. They've changed the Search 'line' so that it is hard to type in only 'what' you want... Also, when I post, it doesn't show the second line of my post. I have to right click to save it, then click edit, and continue writing.. It also repeats the post in a second box, so I have to 'delete' that post... It's weird.. I told Bruce, that I 'messaged' dear old Mark Zuckerberg and put the questions to him... They did send me a survey, today.. Maybe it worked..Maybe 'Marky' or one of his 'techies' read it...! We'll see..
Comments: DirecTV, Facebook and other stuff are messed up.
Comments: Lynell, I read the newspaper obits. I believe it has become quite expensive to have an obit in the Dallas Morning News. I don't know if the funeral homes charge for the service, but I'll bet they do. I learned of my 2nd cousin's passing a few months ago from the obits. We had totally lost contact with his family twelve years ago and he was only 19 when he died. He had cystic fibrosis and lived a lot longer than expected.
Comments: Sharon, do you look at the obits online? I do. I remember when I used to look at brides and always saw someone I knew.
Comments: Don't remember why I started looking at obits, but seems as if I have forever. They truly are a way to keep up with family, friends, etc. Since my sister doesn't live here, I try to pass along things to her. Besides seeing Frankie Cantu, there was one for the mother of an old friend that I lived down the street from and played with before moving to OC.
Comments: Ditto...Charlotte..."What?"....
Comments: WHAT?
Comments: My grandparents read the 'obits' every day. I've known others that do so also. I look up 'online' when I hear of a friend, classmate, distant relative that has passed. I had friends in Memphis that still read the newspaper every day. I only took the Sunday paper. Here in this small Texas town, they have a paper only on Wednesday and Saturday. I'm not that familiar with anyone in this town. As the papers go...the 'paper' version of the paper, so will the daily check of the obits go.. I like the idea that we can now 'look up' any paper in any town...online. Sometimes, you might have to subscribe to get the whole thing, but we do have greater 'access' to the news...in any town..now. Frankie Cantu has had several very nice comments made about him from former classmates, friends, coworkers. This Legacy.com is a good thing..
Comments: Okay....we are at the age that reads the obits.....ugh!! I'm glad I don't live in Dallas so that I am not tempted to do that! (I know some of you have been doing that for our class for a long time just to keep up)
Comments: I owe Janet a return call. I will try my best to call her in the new few days and let y'all know.
Comments: BJ...came on FB and said Larry Perry is requiring 'full time' help for dementia in Arizona. Has anyone else heard..? I've known he's had dementia for a while. It must have progressed to a more serious level... It's hard to find anything on their '62' site.. They generally only discuss 'good old boy stuff' over there...?? If you hear..? Pass it on. I would suppose Janet is out there, too..
Comments: Greetings to Melanie Stone! I'll drop you a line and some old Russell pics. |
