Fulton County Georgia had a bad superintendent back in the 90's. He was called 'The Ax Man'.. Another school district hired him and the people on the Fulton County Bd..had a big party in celebration.. The School District that hired him was Austin, Tx. He ran off 31 principals. Our principal retired before he wanted to do so. The whole office staff retired. They knew what was coming. He replaced those principals with some inexperienced teachers that said they were working on their 'Administrative Degree'. Our so-called principal was horrible. We had a swinging door policy with teachers coming and going..
They finally fired the superintendent on TV after 3 yrs. They said it would take AISD...20 yrs to straighten out the problems. Even our custodian knew that the 'super' had an alcohol problem, several affairs going and beat his wife. Austin also had 'test score problems' during that time. Public schools are a mess. If you find a school or schools within a system that function very well for the benefit of the students, parents, and teachers. Be Thankful, be very thankful.

Can any of you imagine this happening while we were in public schools?  No wonder parents do without to send their children to private school...I was a teacher and can't imagine this going on.  We have crooks teaching our children.  I am so sad.

A great example for our future leaders:

Fulton County prosecutors announced that a grand jury had indicted the Atlanta Public Schools' ex-superintendent and nearly three dozen other former administrators, teachers, principals and other educators of charges arising from a standardized test cheating scandal that rocked the system.

A 2011 state investigation found cheating by nearly 180 educators in 44 Atlanta schools. Educators gave answers to students or changed answers on tests after they were turned in, investigators said. Teachers who tried to report it faced retaliation, creating a culture of "fear and intimidation," the investigation found.

Oh yes, and pay those teachers based on the test scores and give that Superintendent a bonus. Oh yes, and the Teacher's Union protects them.   These people mold lives.....

What of the children?

You can google the subject to read more of the shocking and depressing story....

I changed the location of the luncheon on 4/27 to 6811 W NW Hwy just west of North Park Center and on the north side of the road.  There were people warning of congestion at the DT location with the new museum and park close by so please come and join us for some wholesome fellowship and new memories.  Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible.  I will still need to know if you are attending for a head count by 4/24 if possible.  If you still can come at the last minute, please do but this way they will reserve as many of the seats for group seating as possible.

Thanks Lynell for posting!  You are always just so good....

Could be. I hope she'd hang onto a treasure like this. However, I know people put letter jackets, Deb uniforms, Dens, all sorts of goodies into Goowill bags decades ago, and some have regrets. I guess a lot of people are not hoarders like moi

What a find! I'll bet the front of that jacket has a chenille letter with Kathy embroidered on it. I think Kathy is on the Oak Cliff Boomers FB page. Wonder if she'd like to have it back?

For those of you not on Facebook, I'll repeat the announcement here. On eBay there is a SOC Majorette uniform and jacket up for auction (do an eBay search using the term "South Oak Cliff"). The seller says it came from an "estate sale". My initial concern was that one of our majorettes had passed away.

Now I learn that the items belonged to Kathy Jennings, Class of '62, whom I'm told is very much alive.

Now if I can just round up $100 and convince my wife that she'd look good in a majorette "costume" ...

Is that the song that goes I'll remember you. You're the one...yada yada.? How appropriate. MMM would never sing that because he'd have to pay royalties.

Not to worry John, he did not try to compete. :-)
one of George's Last last songs was" I'll remember you" as he said goodbye to Houston Rodeo crowd. That's when I had tears in my eyes.

Charlotte, is the report true that George's last number of the evening was "Wildfire"?

Wish we could have been there.

Years go, I saw Reba walking her dog. A tour bus stopped on McKinney Avenue and waited as this perky little big-haired lady got out and assumed the universal slightly embarrassed stance of dog owners everywhere. This was an interesting new vacant lot, and the dog was in no hurry.

George was fabulous. I had tears in my eyes when he left He is such a humble guy. There were 80,000 people there tonight.

George and Reba did a concert in Memphis @the Fedex Forum.. The bands were so loud, it was hard to hear their words. I hope you had more quality sound at the rodeo.. I'm glad I got to see them, but would have enjoyed it more if the sound system had worked more efficiently...

I am soooo excited....going to see George Straight tonight.  This is his last performance at the Houston Rodeo.  His PR says this is his last tour.  I suppose he will do small things, but I am sure he is waaaay tired of touring.  I saw his first performance at the Rodeo.  He was a substitute for someone who got sick..George came riding out to the stage on a white horse and stole everyone's heart that night.  After his performance, as his band played, he rode the white horse around the arena waving his hat to the crowd and then out the door.. his star quickly began to shine after that.

I met the FIRST MMM son in Austin in the early 80s when MMM was only MM and touring small rodeos. The son was 7 years old.  .It was fun to see him and his sun...then I saw them in Dear Valley Utah....that son was grown then and I think MMM was on his 2nd wife....That was just about the time he started singing the old Cowboy songs and going to Cowboy poetry symposiums....now I think that is all he does...ei...Cowboy Christmas etc.

Ryan Murphey...parents: Mike(Michael) and Diana.. Brennan( or Brendan) Murphey: parents...Mike and Mary. That's all I know about. I think he may have some 'stepkids'..but don't know for sure. There's some in the Mike and Karen(4th wife) family, too. I only know about the girls in that group..
Caroline, the second one, may be the Shaman...marriage, but don't remember for sure..

Ryan has kids, I think,  and is an outstanding musician... Mike and Karen do make a very 'photographic couple'. They have connections with Michigan or Wisconsin. They also have a ranch near Amarillo..
I know a lot about the Murphey clan..but I have my limits.. I don't 'buddy-buddy' with MMM...JS..!
