Comments: I went down there in high school....never had been to a frat party. But, I'm sure it was mild compared to today. Just a bunch of kids. I remember the traffic jam downtown and creeping along the street. It was fun people watching. Does anyone know if it happens today?
Comments: Never went down there, during the Texas-OU Game. People have been getting hurt in that 'drunken mess' since the 60's that I know of.. Had no curiosity about that event. Attended enough Fraternity parties..etc. and Aggie Parties...back then to know what a drunken brawl was.. I always thought it was amazing that very sophisticated people, could come to a party looking 'great' and then end up under a table drunk and sick..?? It's beyond me how that could be fun..?? Just didn't do that scene or smoke, drink excessively or do drugs.. I sure didn't want my head bashed in, in downtown Dallas..
Comments: Remember TX OU weekend before the game when we were kids??? Downtown Dallas was a drunk fest.......but even tho I didn't partake of the booze I went down there with dates to drive or walk around etc. My mother & father would have croaked had they known.
Comments: The good news is that when the Sooners win Texas-OU, they hang around and spend money in Dallas. Do I need to say we are staying in tonight?
Comments: It looks like it's wherever TI had Sensors and Controls...plants.. The picture on FB and the article show a building in Freeport..?? The comment on the article suggests our President and all the rest of Washington...do something about it. They built a new plant in Massachusetts...Sensata.. Several articles led me to the ownership of it by Bain Industries... Life is interesting.. You could research all day on the internet.. I don't have that kind of time, but it is fascinating.. Everybody's Mission, if you choose to accept it....Is to get on the internet and find out more facts.. (I really doubt that the ones in N. Texas have that name on it or...the Republic of China) this message will not 'explode' or maybe it will..????
Comments: Texas Instruments 'had' a division called Sensors and Controls.. Bain bought it.. Hmmm.. now who owns or owned Bain..?? Now it's Sensata which flies the Flag of the Republic of China.. Don't you just love the internet...! You can find 'fascinating' things out there..
Comments: Ginger, Are you saying the Chinese are flying their flag in front of Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas? I used to work the nightshift at T.I. in Austin when Bill was in graduate school. When I worked there T.I. was an extremely patriotic place and we built equipment to go on planes and ships for the military. I have never understood why we borrowed money from the Chinese (just to fight with them). I guess we borrowed the money so we can buy their cheaply made products from Walmart. It looks as if Bush gave the "job creators" tax breaks at the expense of having to borrow money from the Chinese.
Comments: Google Sensata... They're all over the US... There's a Texas Instruments that is now 'renamed' Sensata.. In front of one of their plants, they're flying the Flag of the Republic of China... There's a thing on FB about it... Hmmm, very interesting.....
Comments: 1. The Chinese are in the Texas business world, most likely.. State Fair of Texas has always had International booths, so maybe they broadened it..? The Memphis Zoo has a big elaborate Chinese section/ exhibit, etc, with Pandas and other things. It's what the Chinese do, now. The country trades with them and 'borrows' from them...so much..that probably has a lot to do with it. 2. Since 'high rolling' business men..everywhere, make deals, it also may be something involving 'trade-offs' or 'I'll scratch you back if you'll scratch mine.'.. It's the way they do things...in politics, in business.. The Japanese do the same thing..
Comments: REALLY? I didn't get that from what you said.
Comments: PS... Char, I was talking about the same thing..
Comments: I agree Buy American. We have to support our own businesses. I am sick of reading how American workers are being forced to train Chinese workers on how to do their jobs. American workers make the best products compared to cheaply made foreign products. We recently bought an American made car and we like it so much more than our Honda Accord Hybrid. It is just much more convenient to drive.
Comments: No, I am referring to China being injected in the TEXAS state fair..It is not an international fair..I'm not sure it is a good sign, even tho I am sure it is beautiful. Lanterns are beautiful. BUT, A better light show would have been Chihuli Lights...a beautiful American Glass Artist's work could have been lighted up! BUY AMERICAN!!!
Comments: Trying to look more 'International'..? ( buddy-buddy with some of the men on the committee..?)
Comments: I'm wondering why the Texas State Fair has a Chinese exhibit......especially now. HOOKEM!
Comments: I have one thing to say: HOOK 'EM HORNS!

Comments: Thanks Barry for the information. Wounded Warriors seem to be doing an outstanding job helping returning soldiers. I read how returning soldiers react to the kindness of grateful citizens. It reminds me of the line from "Streetcar Named Desire" where Blanche comments that she has always relied on the kindness of strangers.
Comments: Barry, this activity and other activites..needs to be ongoing for years. As Charlotte said, 'too bad it wasn't done for the Viet Nam Vets'.. Now we just need to stay out of wars..! There were things going on in Tennessee. The PGR's are very active in the Southeast, also. I receive 'daily notices' of those PGR's and the funerals they are escorting.. It's a good thing.. BJ...announces them on FB.. I didn't go to the Fair, today. I studied the 'situation', looked at DART on line and said, it's more than I need to worry about. When we were kids, we would sometimes go by bus and many times in cars and would park at the Fair Park..parking lot. I don't know 'how reliable' that is now. It is $15. and $20. for Valet Parking.. If I figure this out before it's over and it doesn't cost me more than $40. or $50.,I might go...(I'm also coming from Ft.Worth, too.) I have my memories..anyway.. they're not gone..
Comments: Kathleen: Here is a link to an article in the Port Lavaca Wave that lists the founder of Warriors Weekend in POC. I don't think this gathering is part of the nationwide Warriors Weekend organization, but I am not sure. Kelly Parks is the guy that I contact about providing a boat and I'm sure he could answer all your questions. kelly-parks@att.net http://portlavacawave.com/news/article_3903527a-9bcd-11e1-9b77-001a4bcf887a.html
Comments: Kathleen: I can only answer relating to the Wounded Warriors Weekend in Port O'Connor. As I understand it, there are Wounded Warrior groups all over the country and I do not know how the others are structured. But the one in POC is all volunteer and all of the donated money goes to the conduct of the event. Soldiers coming to POC come primarily from Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio and Ft. Campbell, KY. The Ft. Campbell soldiers are flown to Houston. Wounded Warriors-POC (WW) pays for buses to transport the soldiers to POC from Houston and San Antonio, Many of the soldiers have either care givers or family members with them. WW pays for lodging and meals for the soldiers in either Victoria, Port Lavaca, Seadrift or POC. This past May, there were over 400 soldiers that came to POC, along with family and caregivers. That's a lot of people. As far as I know, there are no paid positions at WW. There are volunteers from across the country. Local businesses provide both monetary support and door prizes for the dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings. There are some national companies that provide support, ie., Academy Sports. If you have never been to one of these events, do yourself a favor and plan to attend. These soldiers are able to go to several similar events during the year, but they all say that they have never felt as appreciated as they feel in POC and they all want to come back the following year. Hope this answers your question.
Comments: Lynell, I have been working on a similar invention for the Boy Scouts and other hikers. The concept is to manufacture little packets of "dehydrated water" to carry in your backpack. Then when you get to your camping destination, you just open the packet and add a gallon of water and you're set!
Comments: Thanks for the info.
Comments: Thank you, Claudia! I'll go back to the '62 site and look some more. I appreciate the info. Comments: I agree Kathleen. I donate to Wounded Warriors often. I only wish there ha been this kind of support for our Vietnam Veterans.
Comments: I have a question for Barry Gibbs (not meant to be a political question) but I would like to know who supports the Wounded Warrior Group. I see a lot of ads requesting donations, but to whom would I be sending the donation. After seeing so many disabled soldiers, it seems like a wonderful cause.
Comments: Okay, I have to ask..Why Plasticville..? The suspense is killing me.. Well, not really, but I read JS's last post again and I have to know..
