Went to the State Fair of Texas with my girlfriend Debra and a good time as usual. Run into BJ Fields and Theresa Mayfield, was so good to see and talk to them. If you are going to the fair go see the Chinese Lantern Festival, especially at night, it is worth the 28 coupons. JUST BEAUTIFUL. Is my legs sore, do not think I can do all day any more. Doing 4-1/2 hours is long enough. I don't see how Debra and I did all day last year and the years before.

Thanks Barry for the information.  Wounded Warriors seem to be doing an outstanding job helping returning soldiers.  I read how returning  soldiers react to the kindness of grateful citizens.  It reminds me of the line from "Streetcar Named Desire" where Blanche comments that she has always relied on the kindness of strangers.

Barry, this activity and other activites..needs to be ongoing for years. As Charlotte said, 'too bad it wasn't done for the Viet Nam Vets'.. Now we just need to stay out of wars..!
   There were things going on in Tennessee. The PGR's are very active in the Southeast, also. I receive 'daily notices' of those PGR's and the funerals they are escorting.. It's a good thing.. BJ...announces them on FB..
    I didn't go to the Fair, today. I studied the 'situation', looked at DART on line and said, it's more than I need to worry about. When we were kids, we would sometimes go by bus and many times in cars and would park at the Fair Park..parking lot.  I don't know 'how reliable' that is now. It is $15. and $20. for Valet Parking.. If I figure this out before it's over and it doesn't cost me more than $40. or $50.,I might go...(I'm also coming from Ft.Worth, too.) I have my memories..anyway.. they're not gone..

Here is a link to an article in the Port Lavaca Wave that lists the founder of Warriors Weekend in POC.  I don't think this gathering is part of the nationwide Warriors Weekend organization, but I am not sure.  Kelly Parks is the guy that I contact about providing a boat and I'm sure he could answer all your questions.

I can only answer relating to the Wounded Warriors Weekend in Port O'Connor.  As I understand it, there are Wounded Warrior groups all over the country and I do not know how the others are structured.  But the one in POC is all volunteer and all of the donated money goes to the conduct of the event.  Soldiers coming to POC come primarily from Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio and Ft. Campbell, KY.  The Ft. Campbell soldiers are flown to Houston.  Wounded Warriors-POC (WW) pays for buses to transport the soldiers to POC from Houston and San Antonio,  Many of the soldiers have either care givers or family members with them.  WW pays for lodging and meals for the soldiers in either Victoria, Port Lavaca, Seadrift or POC.  This past May, there were over 400 soldiers that came to POC, along with family and caregivers.  That's a lot of people.

As far as I know, there are no paid positions at WW.  There are volunteers from across the country.  Local businesses  provide both monetary support and door prizes for the dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings.  There are some national companies that provide support, ie., Academy Sports.

If you have never been to one of these events, do yourself a favor and plan to attend.  These soldiers are able to go to several similar events during the year, but they all say that they have never felt as appreciated as they feel in POC and they all want to come back the following year.

Lynell, I have been working on a similar invention for the Boy Scouts and other hikers. The concept is to manufacture little packets of "dehydrated water" to carry in your backpack. Then when you get to your camping destination, you just open the packet and add a gallon of water and you're set!

I have a question for Barry Gibbs (not meant to be a political question) but I would like to know who supports the Wounded Warrior Group.  I see a lot of ads requesting donations, but to whom would I be sending the donation.  After seeing so many disabled soldiers, it seems like a wonderful cause.

Lynell, the "locals" do call it Thuh Woodlands. Folks in Conroe call it Plasticville.

Our house is so large I can't remember if we have a fireplace? Next time I'm in that wing, I will check (har-har).

We run them off sometimes over here. It's a shame when people 'take their toys and go home'.. I don't like it..for whatever the reason..

I'm not getting my own website now.. Maybe later I'll get Jason to do that..

I hate it that it's warming up..I like the cooler weather..

Our 50th was a real blast and the Remember When event was an emotional knock out.  We had a great time, to bad we did not get any of the '63 Class.  Check out the video pictures Claudia put up on the site.

And lighten up on our web site you gals, we just believe in free speech, and at last count had at least as many posters as you do here(I've even seen Barry, Tanya, and even Lynell there from time to time)....maybe more, so as far as running people off the site.....well, we'll take free speech over censorship every time, even on our Guest Book...we promise not to bite!!!

Please don't discuss politics here.  Sign your name, and keep your politics on FB -- or better yet, get your own website and proselytize all you want to.

Can't imagine why anyone would engage in conversation about anything with a die-hard believer, because it won't be a conversation but a preaching.  I gave up on this many years ago.

Charm school was right.  Say, "That's nice."  It's way more charming than some of the alternatives that pop into my head now and then.

Yes, Barry just sent me a 'hostile' email... They do get mad, don't they..?? SOC 62 really does have a nice bunch of people... You just don't see them on their website..  I stopped going over there.. Apparently, Barry has a lot of friends over there that caused him to take 'offense' at my remarks. Do you think he'll send you a hostile email...? I doubt it.. And I was 'so sharing with him' when I sent him the Big Bird cartoon.. He's just not grateful...  (sigh)

yes, 62 posts many many things on their site and have run off many many people...therefore it seems it has become a conversation among a very few....not a Guest Book as it was intended.  That is why we need to be careful to keep ours friendly and informative about classmates and happenings  etc.

Now, Char...those '62' people get way, way political as well as being very pro, pro gun.. I wouldn't 'dare' show up there.. They might 'tar and feather' me.. There are very nice people from that year. The good old boys probably showed up.. I'm glad Boude Storey and SOC organizations...were so well represented.. Was Vickie 'Bear'....there..??

Listen guys and gals....facts are fine..as in liking something, but you know who you all are ......the same ones over and over......Any other discussion.....ie taxes , candidates etc.... should go to FB or personal emails. 

Did anyone that reads here go t the 62 reunion?  AND did any of you take photos?  I saw a few on FB and it looked fun.  There were uniforms majorettes and drill teams from Jr highs and SOC.  COOL!
