Well, we certainly are all getting old, hopefully gracefully.  But, think back -- while we still can -- of our concepts back in high school as to what it would be like to be 67 years old, versus the present-day reality.  Isn't 67 the new 57?  (Please feel free to substitute your own corny platitude.)  We have lived through some incredible times, surely the most action-packed era of World history thus far, containing numerous transformative events, and it's harder than ever to predict what challenges the future will bring.  Growing old may -- at times -- stink, but it always beats the alternative of not being blessed to survive this long.  It's a beautiful time of year, with State Fair days and high school football nights.  Our senses quicken, and sap starts to flow, and I'm happy to simply be alive and a miniscule part of it all.

The only thing I can add to this conversation, at the moment is... I slept on an air mattress Friday night, in Meridian, Tx at the 'old Hopson Homestead'.. The air mattress was fine. It had a home made quilt on it..to add softness, but the problem was 'Getting Up Off'  of the mattress and the floor.!  I had to be close enough to a rocker or other piece of furniture, to pull myself...up.. The knees, the knees, and then waking up in Ft Worth after sleeping in a regular bed and feeling extra soreness because of the air mattress activity..
Yep, I'm old. Can't do anything about that.. I have lots of company in the 'old neighborhood department', however..

Well guess I am going to have to admit that I am getting old...my grand daughter that I raised is going to have a baby..yep..makes me a great grandma..old!!! Actually a friend asked me about 20 years ago how to avoid the aging process...I said she could die now and not get any older...she didn't seem to appreciate my humor...so actually old is not so bad...we are still kicking!!

I had bladder surgery last Tuesday Sept 25th, better known as pelvic reconstructive surgery.  I spent one night in the hospital.  My 1st checkup was today & I am doing ok. I am sore as expected.  The surgery was robotic, so the incisions are tiny. I am on FMLA until Nov.  The doc listed my restrictions that I am to follow for the rest of my life.  I can only drink 6 cups of liquid a day & no more than 1 cup at a time. No coffee, no tea, no sodas.  Only water, milk or juice.  Losing weight would be fine, but I am not to gain any due to the mesh used.  Currently I am not to lift over 5lbs & after my 6 wk checkup, my limit will be 15lbs.  I am encouraged to walk, but no 5 mile hikes.  I am off pain meds & suppose to get lots of rest, to get well to return to work in Nov.  I work in an office, so by then I will be fine to continue working. I love my job as a hospital negotiator representing numerous insurance carriers.

Our daughter flew in from Alaska to keep me company for a couple of weeks. She is diabled due to spinal stenois but can drive.  My hubby has diabetes, a tremor and COPD.  Thank goodness that we have a huge freezer full of meals to pop in the microwave.  Things will get better soon.  We might make to the State Fair in a few weeks. Senior Day is on Thursdays.  I have a small scooter to use and our daughter has her electric wheelchair.  She can walk but uses the chair for longer adventures.  Between the 3 of us, we currently make 1 whole person.

Yes, Charlotte!  I saw that.  Lots of little groups of kids wore matching t-shirts.

I saw only one woman in high heels.

There were lots of kids there from Mesquite, all cute as pie.

At the bird show, three girls sat in front of us and giggled.  Took me back a ways!  One had pink hair, and one had a nose ring.  I thought how wise they are, because hair gets replaced every year or so, and that nose ring can go away and nobody will ever know.

I was impressed to see how many dads were out there with their families.

But, alas, David fell in love with the 2013 Toyota Avalon.

Were any of the kids walking around dressed alike?  I remember doing that in Jr High at the Fair with Ouida.  We were in Bermuda shorts and knee socks.  Oh my, we thought we were so cute.  Ouida, can you remember who else dress alike with us?  Now, when I see couples doing that I laugh...it seems so dorky now....but we didn't think so then.

Drat it, Phillip Pelch (almost-birthday boy). David and I went to the fair and didn't get a fried pie. Sure sounds good. We did have a big Greek salad and a huge free Frito chili pie. Never knew the State Fair to give away food!

The bird show was excellent as always, even though the Ferris Wheel wasn't working. They always release a big bird from the top of that giant wheel. We even got a seat in the shade!

It was high school day for many schools. We saw lots of cute kids walking around having fun and laughing. Lots of memories were being made.

Barry Gibbs, I have repeatedly tried to email you the link to the Prayer Room, but it keeps coming back.  I left a phone message to Betty Gibbs to post the link on the SOC '63 website. She is so busy, if anyone else could do it I would appreciate it.  Otherwise: Look up The Prayer Room on facebook or Betty Gibbs on facebook snd you should be able to pull it  up. You could also try to send me another email address..

Donna,

May I just say one more time what a delight it is to find you posting on here?  Your story about crochet is fascinating.  I always wondered how those patterns were made -- not that I could ever follow one.  The only things I ever crocheted could mercifully be called "cups" because they always rolled up around the edges.

I think it's wonderful how we have formed so many true lifelong friendships from those days so long ago.  Seems like we all remember the smell of a Crayola melting in the radiator, the stairs to the lunchroom at SOC (that were for up traffic only).  So many memories from those days!

Hello, Kathleen,
I remember you like it was yesterday.  Your smile would light up the room and you were always thoughtful and a great help in times of trouble.  I was a dunce when it came to math and I was more into reading books than I was with book reports!
You are on our prayer list concerning your Kidney troubles.  My Daddy, Gordon Gwin, had Buerger's disease (caused by smoking) and End-Stage Renal Disease, which took a terrible toll on his health.  He died at the Veteran's Hospital in 1964.  He also had emphysema and had asthma all of his life.  There were very few treatments at that time for all of his complications, but now there are many options available.  We pray that the doctors choose the course of treatment that will lead to better health for you.  Just know that The Lord is in control of the situation.
God Bless you and your family.

Donna, It is so nice to hear from you after all these years. I remember you especially from Elisha M. Pease.  You, Linda Nichols and Gwen King are people I have often wondered about over the years.  It is funny  how some classmates stand out in your mind.  Thanks for posting on the SOC '63 website.  This has been an unusual day since you and Danny Green classmates who don't normally post checked in.  I hope more of you will let us know what you are doing these days.  After all it has been forty-nine years, since some of us have heard from you.

Hello, Lynell!
I was very interested in your homepage and love the photos!  Your babies are really precious.  We have a five year old long haired chihuahua we call Tippy. We have spoiled her rotten.  She is a lap baby to the nth degree.
I had also scrolled back several months and found some referrences to crochet.  I am a fanatic!  I worked for Annie's Attic in Big Sandy, Texas from 1984 to 1992 as a crochet testor.  We took the items that were submitted for publication and wrote patterns for them, and they were photographed and published.  It was really fun and I haven't outgrown the love for it!  I am working on angels and snowflakes for Christmas and baby afghans.  I usually keep several of these going at one time.  I have favorite motifs that I can make up in a jiffy and crochet them together.
Keep us posted about our Mary Irene.  She was always wonderful to be around, and if you did not have a smile, she would give you one of hers! She just seemed to make our time at SOC worthwhile.
Keep up the good work with your photographs.  They are wonderful. Until next time. thank you,
Donna Gwin Libhart

Just wanted to remind everyone that the Class of '62 50th Reunion is Friday evening and Saturday.  We would love to have the Class of '63 visit and be with us on either night or both nights.  Friday night starts at 6:00 pm at the Omni Park West with a 4 hour mixer and DJ and we have a hospitality room also both both nights.  Saturday luncheon even has a live band...Curb Service.  Cost is just $75.00 and you can register at the door.....or table as it will be.  Come on by and see what the old folks do for fun, you will be glad you did.

Hi, Donna,

So nice to see you on here!  I remember you very well -- blonde, slightly wavy hair (which I envied) and you were a very nice girl!  I'm sorry to hear of your ills over the years, but I suppose we have all had a few of those.

Please continue to post on here.

Helllo, everyone,
I am at last getting some courage to venture into the world of cyberspace!  I have only used my computer for games and Ancestry.com in the past few years, but my daughter told me to go on the Guestbook and see where it leads.
I graduated in 1963 with most of you.  I started at Elisha M. Pease, went to Sarah Zumwalt, then to SOC.  We lived three blocks south of the Veteran's Hospital, on Veteran's Drive.  (Our old house is now a church!)  My Daddy was Gordon G. Gwin, a barber, who worked in a shop at Polk and Camp Wisdom.  My Mother, Elizabeth Gwin, worked at K. & M. Cookie Company, until they closed in 1966.  Daddy died in August of 1964, just months after my Brother, Jerry Gwin graduated in June of 1964.  Daddy was 63 years old.  Mother died September 28, 2008 in Tyler, Texas at the age of 93.  She was such a lovely lady, petite, with silver hair.  They are buried at Laurel Land Cemetery, along with Mother's parents.
Mother was diagnosed with end stage Alhsheimer Disease in July, 2008, and she did not know us at all.  Such a terrible, frightening disease that robs your loved ones of their dignity and their very essence.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Hughie M. Libhart, since December of 1967 and we have a daughter, born in 1969.  We live in Dawson, Texas, just west of Corsicana, Texas, on Highway 31, going toward Waco.
I was saddened to hear of all the health issues facing some of you,  and please know you all are in our prayers.  Prayer is of some comfort, as Hughie had 5-bypass surgery in October of 2002 at Baylor in Dallas.  It was supposed to be a routine surgery, in and out in a week.  Instead, we were there 29 days.   If it could go wrong, it did.  When your Doctor comes walking down the hall shaking his head, you just collapse!  I made him talk to me very plainly and he told me Hughie was going back into surgery.  They had found an artery they had nicked with the wires they used to restart his heart and the blood was flooding around his heart.  They went back two times, and kept him sedated for 2 weeks.  When he finally came to himself, he said,"Hi, y'all, I'm hungry!"  We had a prayer chain from Waco to San Diego and Seattle to Indiana, but the sweetest paryer was from our little great neice, who sent Uncle Noonie an angel to put on his pillow.  She said that God was good and He would take care of her Uncle Noonie.  So keep your prayers going out for your loved ones.  God always keeps His promises and He never lies!
In Love and frienship,
Donna Gwin Libhart

Handicap Parking at the Texas State Fair has been 1/2 block from the "Automobile Building". You have EZ access to your Motorcycle or Car!!

Will be Praying for Mary & her family.
Praying for our SOC friends has been a pleasure in many cases. Some are sad cases. I hide a lot of my feelings. Some things in our lives don't always end up the way we want.
With me, I never saw it coming.
I am an "Over Comer" & so are all of YOU. This is one of the many great reasons we SOCites all stick together. Thank You All!!

Hope you guys are enjoying the rain today!  I don't know how many of you know about the SOC Prayer room.  There are about eighty people who post and they pray for each other.  If  any of you need to have a prayer said for you, or your family, you might ask them to pray for you.  You could also pray for some of the people who are requesting prayer on the prayer line.   Have a good day!

this is from facebook. Larry McCord posted
As others have posted, my sister Mary has decided to begin hospice care and refuse further treatment. This has certainly not been an easy choice, but the time comes when an individual must make such decisions and those who love them must support them as they do. Thanks for all of your continued prayers and support. Pray for her son, Kent, who is staying with her for the duration, and her daughter, Kari, who has been so faithful to care for her from the beginning. And, of course, her grandchildren whom she loves and enjoys so much.

p.s. With regard to my sister: The saying goes, "It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings". Well, I'm her accompanist, so until I take the stage, she ain't singin' a note!!!
