My cousin is still safe and so is the beautiful Biltmore Hotel.  My cous is up hill from the hotel.

John, I don't watch silly shows...just silly or feel good movies like Salmon Fishing in Yemen....great movie if you have a chance to see it.  TV has gone away for me...except for Netflix....I read where the notorious Today show is licking their wounds of not being number one.  Firing one anchor for a looker will help????....shame shame.....Those morning veriety shows try to call themselves morning news shows...ahem!  Puleeze!

Did anyone watch Charlie Sheen's new show last night ("Anger Management")? I had the feeling I'd seen it before only now Jake is a girl and a black neighbor has replaced his brother Allen.

Charlotte, I heard that 100's of houses were lost in Colorado, Springs.  Did your cousin loose her house?  Does any one know if the fire effected the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs?

Thanks, Charlotte for the comments to Barry..
I have a cousin who lives in Denver. Don't know if there is a threat close to his house. He'll be in Ft. Worth for a week. His older brother died yesterday.. James Neal 'Corky' Gammon.  I'll be in Ft. Worth by July 4th or at least I hope so.

One summer we were in Taos when the wild fires were burning out of control.  Our motel was filled with firemen who spent everyday going out and fighting the blaze.  I couldn't breathe and my eyes were red and burning.  I felt sorry for the town people who had been exposed to the smoke for days.  We had to drive back to Albuquerque to avoid the smoke.  All I can say is I would avoid Colorado for a vacation this year.

My cousins live near the old Biltmore Hotel and I think I will hear quickly if they are threatened since the Biltmore is such a land mark.

The whole state of Colorado is in a draught situation and the high winds are keeping everything so dry dry dry.

I am thankful that rains have quenched the thirst of my little ranchett near Brenham and has replentished the ponds.  We may get two or three cuttings of hay this year.  Last year Texas was buying hay from Colorado....wonder if it will be the other way around this year?

Charlotte, I have many friends in that area. So far, all are safe. Five have been forced to evacuate, and one has lost her house. It is very similar to Bastrop!

Barry...stop yourself....and please....NO ONE respond.  Go to FB to do this discussion.  We all have opinions, but PULEEEEZ keep it off this GB.

I am worried about the fires in CO.  My cousins live in Colorado Springs and so far they are safe, but soooo many people there have lost everything.  It reminds me of Bastrop last year.

Kathleen:

I have become a kinder, gentler person and will not respond to your last post in a "political" way.  Well, so much for that idea.  I agree that the EPA, FDA and labor unions were founded for the common good, but they have run amuck. The EPA is controlling things that they have no constitutional power to control.  Have you heard that they are considering the control of the amount of "dust" that farmers generate?  This is just one example of the crazy ideas that they come up with.

Wonder why other countries have access to "miracle" drugs years before we do?  The FDA causes delays in the introduction of new, life saving drugs in the US and drives up the cost.  Have you compared the cost of common drugs in the US, Canada and Mexico?  Pharmacutical companies often sell drugs in other countries for years before they can sell them in the US.

Labor unions improved the working conditions of countless workers in their early years, but today they exist mainly to make labor union bosses rich and to exert political power that may or may not agree with their rank and file members.  And, most of their contracts make it impossible for companies to compete with non-union companies or to even survive.

Now, that wasn't so bad was it?

Bsrry, I value my health and the air I breathe.  So, I support the FDA and EPA.  The pollution in Mexico City is horrible.  They do have odd and even days on their license plates numbers as to when people can drive their cars in Mexico City.  They do have some regulation.  I also support labor unions because they also protect workers.  Younger people may be more interested in getting a job then taking care of their health, but as they age they will realize how important it is to take of one's health.

<p>Hey, Southworth, did you see the article about the two men in Europe (Jersey Island) that had been metal detecting together for 30 years and finally found a cache of Iron Age coins estimated to be worth $15.6 million.  Hang in there! </p>

Braniff Airways owes us 92 cents in stock dividends.  A relative gave us three shares of stock as a wedding present.  My name is, of course, spelled wrong.  All we need to do to get our 92 big ones is to prove we lived at Pinon Tree Apartments in 1970.  I wonder if they'd accept a picture of our nifty cinder block and board entertainment center as proof.  Let's see -- price of a stamp to mail the claim, plus ink to print the picture -- hmm.  Maybe we'll just let the State of Texas keep the money.  <br /><br />At least we have a pretty engraved stock certificate.

They call it the cost of doing business.  Get rid of the FDA, EPA, countless other governmental agencies, labor unions, environmentalists, taxes, etc and you would be able to buy things cheaper here, too.

There's always a "catch".  I checked a couple of years ago to see if anyone owed me money.  To my surprise, Gifford-Hill owes me (and my first wife) $136.  I contacted them and was told that I needed my first wife's signature or Power of Attorney.  Now, how bad do I really want my half of the money?  Needless to say, they still have the money.

After viewing the "fun things" I discovered that I was owed $4.00 by Honda Corporation. Some of you might want to check and see if the State owes you any money. You may be in for a surprise. I was shocked by how much things are worth due to inflation. I always like grocery shopping in Mexico because everything is so cheap. A four or five pound bag of black beans was only about $.14 cents a bag. Rice, drugs are also cheaper. It is amazing how they can sell their merchandise so much cheaper than here.

I just added something to the Fun Things page, although I'm not sure how much fun it really is.  To find out what your first car would cost today, click the govt's Inflation Calculator.  Stand by to be shocked.

Kathleen, sometimes ya have to hold your mouth right to get the software for this website to work.  I had to talk to two techs, and one of them knew what he was doing.  The other, I'm not so sure!  They've outsourced their customer service, and they read from a script.  Aaargh!

Anyway, I deleted several sets of pictures by accident in the process.  I think they're all back now.  The name tags help a lot.  I know some people don't like them, but they're great for figuring out the names of people that I should remember but don't always.

Ginger,
That is indeed Jewell and she looks wonderful. I remember watching Jewell helping her husband into a wheel chair in the parking lot at La Madeline not too long ago. Seeing her so happy now makes me feel good.
