Septiembre de diez y seis es mas importante que Cinco do Mayo.. Cinco de Mayo is para Margaritas..Ole..!

Don't grade my Spanish. I hope Mr. Arguelles is not reading this..

America probably 'upped' the importance of Cinco de Mayo.. Nobody in this country tries to push Margaritas on September 16..

Bill, I was thinking about May 5 the other day and wondering why in the world we celebrate Mexico's victory over the French back in the mid 1800s?  This is just another example of dumbing down.

May 5, aka Cinquo de Mayo.

I didn't say it was one of our national holidays, although it seems to be heading that way.

Bob Lilly's father was a patient at the doctor's office where I worked.  This was before HIPPA so I can blab.  He left his fedora in one of the examining rooms.  His assistant called back later to see if it was there.  I said yes.  Assistant said he was coming back into the office to get it.  I asked what kind of car he had, and said when I saw them out front I would deliver it so he would not come into the office.  Read between the lines if you like.  Some folks are just not nice to the little people.

If you have a patriotic bone in your body, set aside May 19 for a visit to Warriors Weekend in Port O'Connor, TX.

http://web.mac.com/warriorsweekend/Warriors_Weekend/Home.html

I have participated the last 4 years with a friend of mine by providing a boat and taking Warriors fishing.  You will not believe the sacrifices that these young men and women have made to protect our way of life and yet their biggest regret is that they cannot go back and be with their fellow soldiers. Out of the hundreds of soldiers we have met, only one wanted to talk about all the problems he has.  If I were in their place, I only pray that I would be as positive about life as they are.

I guarantee that it will be an experience that you will never forget.

Sorry, not a Cowboy fan and never made the connection with Bob Lilly, although he played for the Cowboys before the "devil" purchased them (Joan's description, not mine) and I was a fan back then.

We went to the Texas coast 2 weeks ago and the bluebonnets were in full bloom south of Waco.  The mesquite trees were also in bloom and I have been told that is somewhat rare.  They don't bloom every year and I don't remember seeing them on that drive before.

Now, could someone give me a recommendation on a good carpet shampooer?

It has been suggested to me that I host a SOC luncheon in Crockett, since it is between Dallas and Houston.  Before I start setting this up with a restaurant, just wondering if any of you would be willing to drive that far.  Planning on Saturday, May 5, if I do this.

Barry, love the names of the squirrels.  On GCB, Annie Potts dogs are named Tony and Romo!

Barry must be a BIG Cowboy fan to name one of his pets "Bob Lilly".

I was sad to see the news about fellow SOCite Dennis Rodman being over $800,000 behind on child support payments. Guess that means I'll now have to go to Akins for that loan I need (just til payday ... after I get a job).

In closing, I think Kathleen was referring to "pine needles". We get a lot of those dropping in the yard down here.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO LOOK FOR BLOOMING BLUEBONNETS FIELDS? I'VE HEARD THAT ENNIS HAS SOME NICE FIELDS. MAYBE BARRY WON'T FIND THIS TOO FEMININE AN ACTIVITY.

I would really like to contribute more, but I just don't have any info on carpet cleaners, reality TV shows or cooking.  I guess I'll check in from time to time to see if anyone is discussing fishing, shooting, mowing, home building, car repair, hog hunting or other more "manly" pursuits.

We just had a new family move in next door and they have a cat!  I have explained to Bob and Lilly (our pet squirrels) that cats are to be avoided at all costs.  They seem to understand.

We have a Bissell steamer and it is fun to use. We use the cleaner that comes with the machine. We try to use organic cleaning products as much as possible. The one product I don't use around my pets especially my cat, Gulliver, is Pine soil. Pine soil makes Gulliver deathly ill and he starts throwing up.
Thanks Phyllis for your comments. I appreciated them.

Sharon, the Bissell is still in the box.  However, if you don't have pets, I know an excellent carpet cleaner person.  Just e-mail me if you'd like his name.  Our cats got sick after his last visit, so we decided to try it ourselves using water only.  I don't know if there was a connection between the carpet cleaning and losing our precious kitties, but I am not willing to take that chance again.

Lynell, have you tried out the Bissell yet?  I want to get rid of my carpet and go with hardwood, but Steve, like David, wants carpet.  He said he's not walking across cold floors in his bare feet, which is why houseshoes were invented!  So I guess I'll just have the carpets cleaned for the time being.

Any news from Mary?

Kathleen, having children certainly roots us in the onward march of time; previously, we could "free float" without being so tied to a particular generation.  But, we are not old, at least not like we imagined "old" as classmates.  Congratulations on your son's milestone birthday and on being a grandmother; that's the best role of all, in my book.  My son will be 40 this year, and his son's are 16 and 19; and I started late, having my son at the age when most women our age were -- statistically -- having their last child.  I enjoy your posts and have detected no sign you are prematurely aging.  It's spring, and our sap may run a little more slowly, but it's still moving!

Today is my son Greg's thirty-ninth birthday. Just the thought makes me feel old. I am also the grandmother of a three year old granddaugher; sometimes it is hard for me to face the reality of being a grandmother. I keep thinking where did the time go because I am not ready to be old: not yet anyway.

Once or twice a year?  I feel much better now. Maybe if we had not removed the carpet from the bathroom, Joan would not have broken her wrist when she fell off the counter last summer.  She was giving herself a pedicure and slipped.  Don't ask me why.

Please note new e-mail address if you are interested.  I was getting covered up by Junk mail.

Barry, Barry, Barry, get a grip!  That bathroom gets cleaned every year or two.  If Elvis had had thick, cushy bathroom carpet, he might still be here.  But nooooo, he had tile, and we know what happened to him that time he got tangled up in his jammies.

Carpet in the bathroom!  How gross is that?  Don't you know what lives and breeds in that bathroom carpet?  I guess that next you will tell us that you have pets in the house with that carpet?  Do you know what they do when you are not watching?  Hire the guys in the hazmat suits to remove that carpet ASAP.  It will add years to your life! Hardwood or bare concrete is the only way to go, or maybe tile, but do you know what lives in that grout?

I was happy to have the cushy carpet that time I got tangled up in my jammies and did a pratfall in the bathroom. Whacked my head on the carpeted step to the bathtub. I need a padded cell to keep from hurting myself.

We bought a Bissell carpet steam cleaner and will get back with the report in a week or two.
