Dang, the previous post launched before I finished typing my last name. Apologies to the Site Administrator.

Here is one of my favorite watercolor paintings she did that hangs on the wall to the left. It is a pensive girl in shades of blue.

Dan, tell us more about your art or better yet post some examples! Your studio sounds like it's set up for some large scale projects.

John Thanks for the info.Looks like a great place to paint. One more question.Does she use a chair or stool to set on?

Dan, here is a self-portrait Dru did using a bunch of black ink pens. It took her hours and hours to get the shading and cross-hatching just right.

Dan, for Dru's studio we just converted my daughter's bedroom. It is about 15' x 15' and has a large east-facing window which gives her plenty of natural light. She just uses a high intensity desk lamp otherwise. Her art form is watercolor painting so she doesn't require a lot of space or special lighting.

Attached is a pic of the studio. We took up the carpet and had it replaced with tile (in case of paint spills). She also demanded a custom built work table that includes a heavy presser at the bottom in which finished works are mashed flat while they dry. I'll post a couple of pieces she has hanging on the walls.

Roofer John, thanks for the thought.  It sounds like Santa brought Dru a nice skylight that lets in good north light.  You just didn't find it till the rain started.  BTW, I'm sorry to say I don't notice any homemade cake aromas wafting in from the kitchen.  My aunt used to make a white cake with that yummy white frosting that starts out soft but gets crunchy after it sets. She'd add coconut.  Her cakes were beautiful!

Dear Roofer,
I just had a 14x40 art studio built next to my home. Does your artist use any special lighting when she works. I'm getting ready to have electrical work done and I want any suggestions she might have for the lighting or set up of the studio.  I'm also using the walls for display of my 5 year old granddaughter's and my art and photos.Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated from anyone. Thanks

Unfortunately, Lynell, I was unable to get out yesterday and shop for your special birthday gift. The rare but heavy rainstorm kept us pinned in all day - and revealed that we have a leak in the roof over Dru's art studio room!

Her son came over, got up on a ladder and announced a large tree branch had fallen on the roof, punching a 5 inch hole through the shingles and decking. So today I get to deal with that.

If David bakes you a yellow cake with chocolate icing, be sure to set a piece aside for me. Happy Birthday!!

My prayers are with you Mary. With all your friends praying for you, you can't help but when you battle. Many of us seem to be dealing with health problems these days. I just hope we all have a good year for healing.
My condolences to Camille on the passing of her sweet mother.

My prayers are with you, Mary.  More sad news, I noticed in the obits yesterday that our own Camille Cave Vinson lost her mother in the past few days.  Not a very good start to the new year, but we'll hang in there.

Charlotte, I watched most of the Texans game and am really happy for them.  I was a hugh Oilers fan when Bum was there.  I only watched the Denver-Pittsburgh game yesterday, and wow, what a surprise that was.  I'm looking forward to the LSU - Alabama game tonight.  Finally, the last college bowl game!  I think my poor husband deserves a medal for not complaining, but he certainly has read a lot lately.

Thanks to all for your prayers. Just told my precious g'daughters ages 7 and 10 after spending some quality time with them playing Angry Birds on my n ew ipad2. Aah!  At the risk of being branded a traitor to the football gods, it was a lovely weekend where we were free to leave the house at will. Too bad about the playoffs.

I don't understand why a person can't DVR a football game, but I have learned that is not OK to do.

Sharon, Charlotte, help me here!!!

MaryKay Crowder and I have been talking with Mary today. Here is what is going on. Please start praying on your knees for our dear friend.
Earlier from Mary Kay on facebook
I am very saddened to report this (and with permission by Mary). . . our dear loving SOC friend, MARY MCCORD BACH, just called me. I was waiting to hear from her since I knew she had CT scans of her brain yesterday. MARY has 2 masses on her brain and swelling around the largest mass. She said they were malignant. She and Kari are on their way back to the doctor. I will keep you updated as soon as I know more. PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR DEAR MARY!
Here is  report from Mary Kay after Mary saw the doctor. I have also talked with Mary. She is amzaing and in good spirtis but I am sure would appreciate cards for support. Her daughter Kari and brother Larry are with her this weekend.
MaryKay Crowder Mary will have the gamma knife procedure on Wednesday on the 2 tumors. She was given steroid injections to reduce the swelling around the tumors. In addition to severe headaches, she had not been able to see well with one eye. The steroids helped her eyesight too ... because of the reduction in swelling. She again told me that cancer had metasized to her brain. She will find out more information in the next few days. She is very very appreciative of all of your prayers and hopes to get on Facebook tonight. MK

Barry, you are so right. I was shocked to see how easy it was to remove our decrepit windows. A screwdriver, a knife to cut through the caulk, and pry bar and the window was history! The old ones were aluminum, a great conductor of heat. You needed earmuffs to stand next to a closed window in the winter! We have a lot of windows, so replacing them cost a small fortune.  I feel like if we live long enough, the lower utility bills will pay for them. Think we'll live to 130?

If you think your house is secure, don't ever watch the windows being removed.  A screwdriver, a torch and about 5 minutes was all it took to take the glass out.  No broken glass and the alarm contacts were not disturbed.  Now, getting the frames out was different in that they used a big hammer and crowbar to remove the frames.  It took about 10 minutes to get the frame out.  They could take the glass out, rob you blind, put the glass back in and you would never know how they got in!

We were the builder so can't blame the sorry windows on someone else.  We had used the windows in our previous house and they were aluminum with a very good thermal break in the frame.  So I ordered the same windows.  Unknown to us the plant where the thermal break windows were made burned to the ground and the manufacturer "substituted" a non-thermal break window.  We were broke and paying that interim interest and didn't think we could delay things to order different windows.  Regretted it since day one.  When it is cold, ice forms on the inside of the window frames and it has been impossible to keep the sheetrock and paint around the windows looking nice.  Maybe now we can.

Phil, before we had good windows installed, we had to put a book in the window to hold it open. That is, the few we were able to raise. The so-called storm windows had to be removed with about four different screwdrivers in order to wash the windows. Then you had to remember which screw went where to avoid stripping out the holes when you put the storm windows back up. Nothing was made of safety glass, so if you tripped and fell onto a window, you might get sliced extra thin. What a good investment! Can't believe the builder got by installing that garbage.  Well, yes, I can, after my recent go-arounds with the City of Dallas.
