Comments: Happy Birthday Lynell! ![]()
Comments: Happy Birthday to our SOC site guru... Leftnel Garrett Smith XOXOXOXOXO
Comments: My prayers are with you, Mary. More sad news, I noticed in the obits yesterday that our own Camille Cave Vinson lost her mother in the past few days. Not a very good start to the new year, but we'll hang in there. Charlotte, I watched most of the Texans game and am really happy for them. I was a hugh Oilers fan when Bum was there. I only watched the Denver-Pittsburgh game yesterday, and wow, what a surprise that was. I'm looking forward to the LSU - Alabama game tonight. Finally, the last college bowl game! I think my poor husband deserves a medal for not complaining, but he certainly has read a lot lately.
Comments: Mary Irene, thank you for posting. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you deal with this. Please let us know now and then how you are doing.
Comments: Thanks to all for your prayers. Just told my precious g'daughters ages 7 and 10 after spending some quality time with them playing Angry Birds on my n ew ipad2. Just wanted them to realize that I am the same Mimi they saw last week, but I have a medical battle starting and I will be here for them. Tuesday when they come home with me from school, we will tell my son, their daddy, Kent Glasco who calls @ 5 pm from the Marlin Unit TDC. We will go see him next Saturday. Prayers for the whole family are appreciated. You are all such a glorious blessing to have as friends.Love and Peace to all, Mary Irene
Comments: Aah! At the risk of being branded a traitor to the football gods, it was a lovely weekend where we were free to leave the house at will. Too bad about the playoffs. I don't understand why a person can't DVR a football game, but I have learned that is not OK to do. Sharon, Charlotte, help me here!!!
Comments: Not sure results in Baltimore will be as good! We can always hope!
Comments: Yea for the Texans!!!!!!!!! Houston finally has a winning team...This was a fun year to watch our team...finally! I loved seeing Bum Phillips watching his own son playing on the Houston team!
Comments: My prayers are with Mary
Comments: I'm sad to hear that our Mary has to fight still another battle. She is such a winner that I feel sure she will prevail. May God bless you, Mary.
Comments: Please send me Mary's address if possible I would love to send her cards that will brighten her day
Comments: I read Mary Kay's post of FB and am so saddened. I am praying for Mary. This is awful!

Comments: Barry, you are so right. I was shocked to see how easy it was to remove our decrepit windows. A screwdriver, a knife to cut through the caulk, and pry bar and the window was history! The old ones were aluminum, a great conductor of heat. You needed earmuffs to stand next to a closed window in the winter! We have a lot of windows, so replacing them cost a small fortune. I feel like if we live long enough, the lower utility bills will pay for them. Think we'll live to 130?
Comments: If you think your house is secure, don't ever watch the windows being removed. A screwdriver, a torch and about 5 minutes was all it took to take the glass out. No broken glass and the alarm contacts were not disturbed. Now, getting the frames out was different in that they used a big hammer and crowbar to remove the frames. It took about 10 minutes to get the frame out. They could take the glass out, rob you blind, put the glass back in and you would never know how they got in!
Comments: We were the builder so can't blame the sorry windows on someone else. We had used the windows in our previous house and they were aluminum with a very good thermal break in the frame. So I ordered the same windows. Unknown to us the plant where the thermal break windows were made burned to the ground and the manufacturer "substituted" a non-thermal break window. We were broke and paying that interim interest and didn't think we could delay things to order different windows. Regretted it since day one. When it is cold, ice forms on the inside of the window frames and it has been impossible to keep the sheetrock and paint around the windows looking nice. Maybe now we can.
Comments: Phil, before we had good windows installed, we had to put a book in the window to hold it open. That is, the few we were able to raise. The so-called storm windows had to be removed with about four different screwdrivers in order to wash the windows. Then you had to remember which screw went where to avoid stripping out the holes when you put the storm windows back up. Nothing was made of safety glass, so if you tripped and fell onto a window, you might get sliced extra thin. What a good investment! Can't believe the builder got by installing that garbage. Well, yes, I can, after my recent go-arounds with the City of Dallas.
Comments: Charlotte Barry can't post because he is running!
Comments: Barry, we replaced our windows several years and repainted the house and I was surprised about the neighbors.( they all walk in our neighborhood), We got compliments left and right. PS Happy Birtday!
Comments: Whoa! Larry....I had you pegged in Kendre Sunday School for a crazy boy!! As we grew up your funny, crazy humor was evident too. This running accomplishment is unmatchable by anything I can think of in the hobby area! Best wishes for more fun runs in 2012! I don't think he reads here, but I'm just sayin
Comments: Nice article about our '63 classmate, Larry Macon. 825 Marathons? I'd get gassed just running to the mailbox!
Comments: Happy birthday, Barry! You will enjoy new windows. We did that a few years ago, and it made the house quieter and cleaner. I was surprised to see how easy it was to take out the old windows. A screwdriver and a knife, and they popped right out. It's great to be able to raise the windows on pretty days, and the cats love it!
Comments: And I thought everyone had forgotten. I should have known that I could count on JS. I actually took all day off so we could get our old house windows replaced with some more energy efficient ones. I am also home today doing the same thing. It has been good because I have gotten a lot of the dreaded income tax stuff posted on Quicken. If you ever feel like tearing up something, just replace your windows. "Get a bigger crowbar!!" I just hope the walls survive.
Comments: Just squeezin' in under the wire to wish our Barry E. Gibbs a Happy Birthday today. Tell Joan to save me some cake! I hope you closed the shop at 4:45 today to go celebrate.
Comments: Geo-Johnny: Since that guy is out of the picture, start a campaign to have the parks reopened to your groups. I can't believe that sign actually says "no pinatas". Watched so much football yesterday that my eyes hurt, but really good games. I finished the jigsaw puzzle, finally. It was a toughy, but still fun. Really didn't want to come back to work today, but such is life.
Comments: Yesterday I was chasing a geocache down south of The Woodlands at a park that falls under the management of Harris County. As I drove into the park I was surprised to see a sign prohibiting the use of "Pinatas". I guess it is yet another indicator of the creeping demographic changes affecting our State. Also of note is the nearby sign mentioning Precint 4 County Commissoner Jerry Eversole. Eversole is despised by the 3 metal detecting clubs in Harris & Montgomery County. About four years back he instituted the policy of banning metal detecting in any park owned by Harris County. Overnight numerous huge parks were now off-limits and the thousands of coins, rings, and necklaces lost there over the years will remain undiscovered. Kharma came into play last Fall when Eversole was indicted on charges of accepting bribes for awarding park contracts. He resigned from office and agreed to take a plea bargain to avoid prison time. His punishment will be determined this month. ![]()
Comments: We're having neighbors over for fried shrimp and black-eyed peas, and I'm thinking Cole slaw counts as a leafy green vegetable. Everyone will go home by 10 p.m., and we'll watch the ball drop in NYC. That's it for me! Happy and Healthy 2012 to all SOCites!
Comments: If you must get out amongst the crazies tonight, please be careful. Donna and I will be staying inside, safe from the madness. Having a good steak, baker tater and some sauteed 'shrooms. If I can stay awake long enough I may get to watch the ball drop at Times Square. Be careful my friends and have a Happy New Year!
Comments: Lynell, you are so right about Sun Rexall, that store did have everything. I quit the puzzle last night to watch the Holiday Bowl with Texas. Went back to the puzzle after a short time. Boring!
Comments: Sharon, I'm sorry about Jill, but what nice memories. That Sun Rexall was the best store ever. They had everything, and they were open all night. |
