Charlotte, My husband and I try to take a Sunday ride someplace scenic every Sunday.. Yesterday, we drove to a beautiful neighborhood where all the houses have Lake Ray Hubbard in their backyards. I was shocked at what I saw. There was no lake. There was a huge barren mud hole between the lake and the backyards. The drought and extreme heat have really taken their toll on the state of Texas.

I have seen people I know on the streets of NYC, in Madrid Spain and London....whoa!  It is a small world after all!

Our ra0nch is so sad looking...we have lost soooooooooooooooo many 50 year old oaks...we will not cut them down until next year ....just in case...but I think it is hopeless.  Our ponds have a trickling of water (teeny, slow spring?).  The fish are gone(sad), but the wild life(ahem, doesn't include me)come to drink that rancid water.  I see their foot prints, but I am glad they have it...thankfully, we have water troughs too.  Tonight on our way to a dinner party in Waller and back we saw MANY dos and babies so I suppose life goes on.  We have two corn feeders for the deer.  We have a motion camera on one feeder and it is fun to see who comes.

Oh yes - the first people I saw at the Fair was my cousin and his wife!  Amazing since I, too, typically do not see anyone I know.  Betty and I saw a guy with the last name of Hawkins.  Betty was thinking of Jack Hawkins from the Class of 66 but that was not him.  He never said anything about being from OC.  Turns out another OC Boomer made mention of him on FB and he was from Kimball!  Small world.  He was an artist in the tent area near the International building that had the foreign cars and stuff.

Lynell - maybe we should wear more signs.  I wore my Oak Cliff Boomer shirt thinking it was the best way to meet up with them at 12:30.  Well it did work since no one else wore their (wouldn't you know it?).  Later when Betty and I were standing in the shade eating our soft serve cones, there were some ladies looking at me but I did not know them.  Finally, they came over and said you are from OC?  They had been trying to read my shirt and saw the Oak Cliff.  I asked if they were from OC and Boomers.  They said yes but graduated in the 50's so I explained the shirt to them.  They all started pointing at my shirt saying all the schools they had attended since all the elementary, jr and sr highs are on the shirt.  It was fun visiting with them - so the story, maybe we just need something to find out we have a lot of people out there that may have been our neighbors.  Then again, a lot of Oakies do make their way down here.  Look at our favorite Oakie - Jana Milham - honorary SOCite!

Cynthia, we always marvel at how we can both have grown up in Dallas and we go to the fair and see thousands of people, and we never see anyone we know.  Where are these fairgoers from, Oklahoma?

Hey Sandy - hate Betty Gibbs and I did not run into you and Don at the Fair yesterday.  We had the photo opportunity with the Oak Cliff Boomers group at Big Tex and moved on.  We did about 4 hours and saw everything we wanted to see and do.  Was a wonderful day out there.  Got on the scale this morning and lost another pound - yeah!  I think it was the walking it off thingy but we did refrain ourselves - not as much as Lynell but a Fletchers corny dog, Fried peaches and cream - so yummy! and a soft serve pineapple/chocolate swirl.  Sampled some dips with pretzels but the line was too long for the freeby soft serve ice cream.  Had a real root beer with actual sugar - had not had in years.  Yes it was a great day.  Maybe we will see you at another Senior Day at the Fair!  Did you notice there were a lot of old people out there - we struggled around them and kept moving wondering how we fit into the group classification.  LOL

Lynell & Dr Proctor - Don & I went to the Fair all day yesterday (10:30 to 6:00) and I has 2 Fletcher corny dogs, split a Grande plate of Nachos Supreme, split a Funnel Cake, drank 2 DDPs & some coffee and ate several free give-a-ways in the Food & Fiber bldg. My stomach is fine, but my feet are so sore from being on that hot cement & bricks all day long. Beautiful day & the Fair is really a treat & family tradition. This was our 1st time to go on "Senior" Day. Interesting . . .

Hey, all the old coots at these retirement places start off every day with chair exercises, so why couldn't the Debs do a chair routine? Maybe Elrod Maddox could sell us a cheap, one-night catastropic health policy.

Charlotte, I'm afraid if we went down into a kneel, someone would have to help us up or we'd be like the row of dominoes and just fall over.  I'm going to the Garland High game tomorrow night and watch my great-niece perform.  Can't wait.  High school football on Friday night.

[B]hmmm.... a routine of what? um...how to get out of a chair at out age? Or....how to polish those boots and make em shine? Surely you dont mean "When the Saints" kicks... I m not thinkin!! haaaa! Patricia V has great movies of the Debs from our era. Maybe she could show them. I offered to pay for a band for our 40th, but was voted down by the "committee" so good luck on that ;-) Now, the '63 SOC band...that is a different story...yes!!!! they should and could play something...like our Alma mater song or our fight song...wouldn't that be fun? I was just perusing the pics of the Mystics and the Chile Factor band on the '66 events page. I thought maybe Peaches might be able to pull something out of our past for the next reunion. For instance, I wouldn't mind seeing the Golden Debs from our class do a routine or hear something from the band. I am sure we have a lot of talent that we could all enjoy viewing.

No corny dog. No buttered corn on the cob. No Jack's french fries. No nutty bar. Sigh. Your reward is that you will get to live an extra day in a nursing home, savoring your dinner of pureed mush. Please, redeem yourself. At least go to El Fenix tomorrow and eat an enchilada dinner. And chips and salsa. And a corn tortilla with butter on it. Don't regret saying your last goodbye to David with mushburger breathe.

We went to the fair today.  Man, oh, Manischewitz, am I worn out!  I was strong and didn't eat any of the yummy stuff that's bad for me.  I had a Greek salad in the food court.  Saw the bird show and the Hall of State.  Maybe I'll turn in early after all that excitement!

I saw where, at a cost of millions, over 200 trees were being cut down in Memorial Park.  Sooooo sad and costly!  I know I will be in shock to see our little ranch this next weekend.

I read a report that calculated the Houston area would lose between 6 million and 10 million trees over the next 3-4 years because of this drought.

Yes, our little ranch got almost 2 inches of blessed rain.  Every little bit helps!  I am sad to say we are losing trees.  This is the worst drought in our area in recorded history.

There used to be a ride when we were kids that when  at the top you'd be upside down & then rt side up at the bottom. The guy would get you upside down, stop it then back & forth shaking money & coin out of the kids pants. He would not let kids retrieve it later. Ran them off, got it himself then did it all over again.I hope this guy is now trying to buy kool-aid in hell--mike

Going to the fair Monday. Seeing the Marine drum and bugle concert has always been my favorite thing. Rain, my 304 acre ranchette got about a gallon and a half. Hanna my dog stayed out in for 30 minutes and dried off in 5 minutes. Dry dry dry in Paris.

Rancho Pelcho is bigger than than Rancho Smitho! Our rain fizzled after a few minutes. The Rangers game in Arlington was postponed till Monday afternoon because they listened to the TV weather predictors.  This has to annoy ticketholders who have jobs and can't attend

Does 1/4 acre count as a ranch?  If so, our ranch is getting rain right now.  Yippee!!!   I hope this keeps up for a few days.

This centered formatting is making me crazy, and the guestbook customer service is closed for the weekend.  Grrrr.
