Comments: How about a new topic: CLASSES I HATED.
Comments: Janelle, I have both scares and scars from gym class at Storey when a girl told me to meet her after school behind the gym so she could beat me up. By the way, I was a no-show.
Comments: HAPPY FATHER'S DAY AND GRANDFATHER'S DAY to all SOC fathers!
Comments: Lynell, I thought "scares" looked wrong. thanks for the "scars." Perhaps that was a Freudian slip and I was really just "scared."
Comments: And JS, I think you misunderstood. What Adrea said when she entered the room was "has anyone seen THE john?"
Comments: The main thing I remember about lunch was my great scientific discovery that I could freeze a canned Coke and it would thaw out and be about right by lunchtime. They made cans stronger then. That chicken bone thing was tacky, Janelle. I can see why it left scars.
Comments: I remember that I always sat at the same table during lunch with various girl friends. I remember Larry Macon liked to sit with us. Once Mr. Lloyd came over and suggested that he move, but Larry didn't take the hint. Larry just kept sitting there smiling and acting silly. Of course, we were all happy to have him sit with us. Then, I will never forget that Mr. Lloyd mumbled under his breath "a thorn among the roses" and walked off.
Comments: Geez, everyone is focusing on the stupid tables in the cafeteria. Doesn't anyone care that I, clearly, still bare the scares inflicted upon me by Kayleen!
Comments: Funny how we all have different memories. I don't remember any distinct separate tables. I remember just sitting anywhere based on how quickly we could get to the cafeteria. I frequently looked for a bunch of girls and sat with them. And thanks John and Barry. I was always alert to whoever you dated once, so I'd be a breath of fresh air for them! (see what I mean about memories? Obviously mine are more like fantasies!)
Comments: John, you and Adrea; me and Leonard Fitzgerald, who didn't know I was alive. At least Leonard never showed up anywhere and asked, "Pssst. Where's the Lynell?"
Comments: Oh, there were definitely distinct tables in the cafeteria. I remember Barry Gibbs and I sat by ourselves at that table in the back left corner that had a placard on it reading simply "L". I can't recall if that meant lepers or losers? We shared a similar affliction in that we couldn't find any girls who'd go out with us more 'n once. Lynell might recall how I pined away for Adrea Fleming (Class of '61). A pure case of the lure of the unattainable. A few days ago her class had their 50th reunion and she attended. I asked Ken Sellers if she mentioned me specifically by name or was it more by coy innuendo? He replied "The first thing she said when she walked in the room was 'has anyone seen John?'". It warmed my heart. (see official reunion pic I lifted from Facebook) http://people.consolidated.net/swsw/adrea.jpg
Comments: I can say for sure there was no Den table. Janelle, that's funny about the chicken bone and Jack Womack. Wonder what he's up to these days.
Comments: Danny, good for you for recognizing that you need help and that you are doing something about it. Depression is very serious and I am so glad to know you are getting help and hope you feel better and continue to climb out of that illness that can be so debilitating.
Comments: Maybe, Senior Table???
Comments: There was a Deb table? I don't remember that, but was there a Band table too..Football table...different sports tables...Den Staff table..Bear Tracks..etc etc....????
Comments: I, too, scrutinize the name tags trying to recognize everyone. I must say you all always look like you are having so much fun at your luncheons. I ran across a pic of Kayleen Bowser and suddenly remembered being in the cafeteria having lunch and her sending something (can't remember, maybe a chicken bone?) over to me. She was sitting at the Deb table directly behind me. We were competing over Jack Womack. ha,ha. Funny memories.
Comments: Welcome, Mike! Keep posting. You are part of us. This is a great group of Friends. If it were not for our fine people who post our pictures after our Luncheons, I would not remember any of these characters.............. I am still trying to find out who Peaches is?? Bob Clifton told me, "He thought she sold Ice Cream in the Canton, TX area". ....... I can now remember things that happened to me before I was born...... My Dad took me to the Drive-in Movie & I went home with my mother. I have not lost my humor as yet. A lot of other parts of my mind don't seem to work as it use to. I have been taking a medication called "Prevogen" for my Short Term Memory Loss or disappearance. After refusing for many years, to take any medication for my Depression, I no longer have any choice in the matter. Depression is terrible for me. .............I draw a lot of my strength from you people. I Love all of you. You all are much more than Friends to me. Thanks for listening.
Comments: Forgot to say, if anyone wants to send a note, the above email works (if I remember to check it). Mike
Comments: Just logged on to the site for the first time in about two years; OMG, how distressing to see more missing classmates. I do enjoy looking through the image archives; same folks most of the time and I hate to admit it but I cannot recognize many. Of course, a few of you NEVER change. Sharon Reeves, Peaches, and B.J. can be recognized ANYWHERE. Ageless wonders. If any of you want to see 'who the heck' I am, you will have to look at 1962 Den since I was not in the '63 Den. Keep up the postings and when you go to the events, write BIG on your name tags so us old guys with bad eyes and worse memory can recognize some of you. By the way, we have had perhaps 10 days in the upper 80s in Pittsburgh, PA. N I C E, cool weather. I won't tell you about the snow-covered ground between December and March though. Mike Peters (class of '63 sorta) those of you that remember me will likely understand that comment.
Comments: Nope, Charlotte - just wondering.....
Comments: I was in Colorado last week. I was in snow 12 feet over the top of my F250. Rocky Mountain National park. I drove up to Kansas Yesterday to pick up my granddaughter. It was 65 degrees and raining this morning. A lot cooler just a few states away.
Comments: Sharon, where I am it is 70 degrees at 1 P M.............aaaahhh! So fine!
Comments: Hey, Charlotte, why aren't you in Colorado yet? With this heat, I'd be gone.
Comments: Cynthia, are you bragging????
Comments: Watched Thursday Mavs game at 'Blue Smoke' restaurant in Manhattan. I was surprised how many Dallas fans in NYC. Watched part of Sunday's game in an Irish bar in Manhattan and whole bar was pulling for Dallas. Lots of Germans with Dirk jerseys!
Comments: Oh my - is this what we have to look forward to in 2 years?
Comments: I spelled ophthalmologist wrong. Eye doctor.
Comments: John, that was SOME video. Thanks for that. I watched several of his others while I was visiting You Tube. What a hillbilly hunka hunka. Ask yourself what's more fun, a vacation or two root canals and a colonoscopy. You may be onto something about us being cash cows -- although I wish you'd found a svelter animal. Cash gazelles maybe. Not that many years ago ago, I saw one doctor annually and had one dental visit. Now I go to the dentist twice and see the internist, gynie, mash-o-gram tech, ophthmologist, and lung doctor once per year. That's in addition to my frequent flier status at the hand doc's office. The good part is that last week the guy who hands out senior parking stickers at Presbyterian Hospital carded me. Yep. Made my day.
Comments: Just got home from the dentist and am facing two root canals. Earlier this year I went through skin cancer surgery, prostate biopsies and still ahead is PAD testing and a colonoscopy. Am I the only one that feels that our group is becoming little more than "cash cows" for the medical & dental industries? To cheer myself up I went back to YouTube and found this funny 1950-ish video. It features fiddler Gordon Terry and a very young June Carter. Gordon introduces the number as a "love song" but it goes downhill fast. Johnson's Old Gray Mule may be my new favorite song. Everybody sing along ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF8mBdtLR9Q |
