JS - the song is too funny!!!

This GeoCaching is right up your ally.  It takes someone smart, creative & adventurous to do it.  That's you!

Lynell, I don't have any snake boots but could have used some this morning as I was metal detecting along the reedy bank of a river. Found nothing but shotgun shells and empty cartridges.

Barry, I've been experimenting with ringtones for my cellphone and put together one that is now linked to your number. It has an "automotive" theme, in keeping with your avocation and pays homage to our 1950's upbringing.

So now when the phone rings and I recognize the song, I can turn to Dru and say "don't answer that - It's Barry". (I hope the following link works as planned)

John, when I was much younger, I had a pair of snake boots.  They were stilettos.  What do your snake boots look like?

Sandy, thank you for the great invitation.

Snake boots are not exactly snake proof....So, just make a lot of noise as you are walking along....ie; carry a long staff and swing it to and fro in front of you.  The snakes don't want to meet you any more than you want to meet them and this will give them time to skedaddle from your path...well, except for the rattlers...they just tend to curl up and stay put rattling...but I would think hearing that that would be enough warning to back track IMMEDIATELY!

I enjoy your adventures John...thanks for sharing them with us.

Geo-Johnny:

Can I have the neon lights from the Miata when you disappear in the woods?  Dru can keep the Miata, but those lights would look good on my boat.

John, do you wear snakebite-proof boots for your expeditions?  Those are clever caches, but 500 feet into the woods? Yikes.  Does Dru wait in the car in that Marilyn Monroe dress you bought from Debbie?

Mike, you're welcome.

Thanks Lynell for putting names on some of the pix.  Memory is returning, ever so slowly.

Geo-Johnny, If you find anything wrapped in duct tape, I think you should either leave it or alone or beware of coyotes.

Another of Stephanie's geocaches that made me smile was one named "The Last Bird in The Technology Forest". It was hidden in the woods off a street named Technology Forest (big surprise). Again, I didn't know what to expect ... I pictured a stuffed owl or something like that.

This one turned out to be a colorful little birdhouse hanging in the middle of the woods that contained the log to sign and a few trade items.

Stephanie goes by the geocaching nickname of "Smukke" a scandinavian term that means something like "pretty one". She was a major force in geocaching in this area for a couple of years. Then a year ago she had a heart attack  at age 49 and dropped out of sight. Two weeks ago she emerged and is back in the game with "Dead Ringer".

Tonight I was reviewing the geocaches I located last week and one of them stood out for its cleverness. The cache was titled "Dead Ringer" and the hider is a local gal named Stephanie whose caches exhibit lots of imagination.

This one was hidden about 500 ft. in the woods in the roots of a fallen tree. I wasn't sure what to expect from the way it was named. Turned out to be an old Princess phone in which the inside works had been removed to make way to house the log and some trading trinkets. Here's a pic:

Sandy:  Joe's Italian Cafe if located on Beltline  (south side) at Surveyor.  It is about a block or so west of Sam's Club.  The food is really great and the lunch prices are verrry reasonable.  I like sweet pickles with my cheese sandwich too.

Dear John (as in Southworth);  Man you are a tough old boot; hard nosed as heck in your sales techniques; no returns is acceptable under the existing conditions (I believe the word is FREE).  Thanks again to GeoJohnny for coming through.

Sharon Reeves; appreciate the 'welcome back' and reminder of the upcoming 50th.  It is not entirely out of the question for me to be there with some good planning.  Hopefully I can bring my 'child bride' with me.  I keep practicing the marriage routine and hopefully I got it right this time.  She keeps me young and would kill me if I even thunk about departing...  Funny, nobody ever splained it so well.

My brother (Homer, class of '61) went to his 50th a few days ago and had fun; some subtle surprises and some not so subtle surprises but after all, it's been 50 years already for him. I'll keep my eyes glued to this site to see WHEN and WHERE.  All my kids and grandkids live in Ft. Worth area so I have a natural reason to visit.  Reckon it will be in October?  Thanks all for the imaginative comments and memories.

Sharon - a girl after my own heart!  I too love cheese & pickle sandwiches!  Only difference . . .  I use slices of sweet pickle instead of dill.  Have loved them since I was a kid & still do!

Where in Addison is Joe's Italian Cafe?  Is it on the Belt Line strip or maybe Midway or Marsh?

I always took my lunch and it was the same most days.  I was then, and still am, a lover of cheese sandwiches.  Mrs. Baird's white bread, miracle whip, american cheese and three slices of dill pickle.  (My mom invented stackers way back then!) Of course, I always had a bag of Fritos.

I ate at Joe's Italian Cafe in Addison, again last Thursday.  The food is just wonderful.  Unfortunately, its layout wouldn't work for a SOC luncheon.  The place was fairly empty when we got there, but it filled up nicely when a lot of the Mav's parade goers came in.

Hey, Mike Peters.  Glad to see you are still checking in with us.  I wondered where you went for so long.  Stay in touch.  You know our 50th is just around the corner.

Lunch at SOC, very hazy memories. Vague recollections of the lunch line, ice cream/graham crackers/rolls, hardly anything about who I sat with. One clear memory, watching Jimmy Nicodemus eat his entire lunch - sandwich, chips, etc - without anything to drink. I almost gagged just watching him.

Memo To Bill Akins:

Please note I am no longer collecting SOC memorabilia. Just today I had the winning $4.6 million bid at the auction for Marilyn Monroe's classic "subway" dress. Thought Dru might like it for her birthday this week.

I hope the dress gets here before they find my bank account is a little bit light.

I have a reunion directory that might fit your needs, however I'm sure there are others who could undercut the price on me. Will send details by email.

Johnny:

I don't remember sitting at the corner table with you or the "L" on the sign.  Personally, I always wondered why you had such a problem getting dates when I was turning girls down almost every weekend.  I even tried to convince some of them to go out with you! (All pure fantasy, of course)

What I do remember about lunch was the day that Brooks Barr came by our table and said he would be waiting outside.  It seems that he was offended that my ROTC company had asked his "supposed" steady to represent us at the Military Ball.  Of course, I was to be the lucky escort.  She went with me, I had a great time, I hope she had a great time and the bruises from Brooks' fists went away in a few days.  And, she was crowned military sweetheart.

I talked to her at the 45th reunion and she didn't even know that Brooks and I had a "discussion" about her.

Mike, you might contact John "Geojohnny" Southworth. He is trying to corner the market on old Dens on eBay. He'll probably want your first born (he is very materialistic you know), but it's a starting place.

Hated classes?  I was not particularly fond of any of them but the teacher that I remember most was Bruce Norman; he was so neat and down-to-earth.

Well, naturally I do remember Mrs Paschall, not in the details of Mr. Green,  but I do remember her as my Homeroom teacher. I can remember her regularly ranting about us being Silly Sophomores.  As an afterthought, and many years later of maturing, she really was quite a lovely little lady.

Question...  Since I infrequently attend the fun things such as the luncheons and reunions (long way from the Northeast), does anyone have a spare booklet from a previous reunion that has the pics in it?  I never had a '63 DEN and for me to find my '61 or '62 is out of the question (up in the attic I am sure).  Thanks all;

Gonna be near 90 in Pittsburgh this week; we are gonna feel the heat.

You left out a very descriptive word when speaking of the gym, SMELLY, at least it was in the guys gym.  I cannot admit ever to visiting the girls gym, not without starting an entirely new discussion, likely not suitable for the guest book.

Um, in a word...Algebra! X's and Y's are not meant to replace numbers! Especially while wearing sweaty gym shorts in a steamy locker room. Wait, I think I'm getting confused.

Okay, Mike.  Nobody's taking the bait about classes they hated, so it's up to you and me.

I'll go first:  P.E.  That horrible gym suit, that steamy yucky dressing room, calesthenics -- then get dressed and go to your next class.  Ugh!
