Comments: Claudia, I'm sorry I missed seeing you yesterday. Vick looks just like he did at Boude Storey, so you would have recognized him if you laid eyes on him. Did you and Peaches go to Prestonwood CC for the reception?
Comments: Lynelle, I wish I had seen you there and would love to have seen Vick...we lived in the same neighborhood when we were in elementary school...man, that was long ago! I sometimes think "how sad" when we lose one of our own, and it seems we discuss the gathering in their honor as if it were a social event. Those who pass on, who are common in our lives bring us together to celebrate their legacy, so maybe it is a social event...just more somber in nature than lunches, dinners, reunions and other gatherings!
Comments: Here goes.... Henry could best be described as a gentle giant; courageous and tough yet tender at heart. He was also fiercely loyal to his family. You could be dealt with harshly if you ever crossed someone he cared about; particularly his grandchildren. Henry might recognize the shortcomings of family and friends but always stopped short of passing judgement. Henry attended South Oak Cliff High School - Class of 63. He played football at East Texas State and Texas A&M. He proudly served as a member of the armed forces in Vietnam. To say that Henry loved to cook BBQ was an understatement. In 2009, he brought together a group of friends called the "GPS" (Gravel Pit Society) and spent long lazy weekends smoking and grilling meat. He was passionate about his Aggies and Mavericks and tolerated many a longhorn game with his children. In August 2010, a charity golf tournament was held at Prestonwod County Club in his honor. It was a testament of what wonderful friends he had. He was after all....a guy's guy. I hope all of us remember Henry actively doing what he loved...playing golf, commanding the grill, and bellying up to the 19th Hole round table with his buddies. As Laura likes to say...this is not Goodbye...just "bye for now". His Family. I wanted to share this with his SOC friends as most of us have not seen him for years.
Comments: Henry's service was packed as Lynell stated. There was about 10 or more people standing in the back. Claudia Kenngott Bevill and I sat together. Lynell, sorry i did not see you. The music was fantastic!!! I spoke briefly to Kelly after the service and introduced myself. She is an absolutely beautiful tall blonde. I will write tomorrow from his page that described Henry. I am now putting blanket, pillow, flashlight and radio in my utility room just in case of tornado. And I MUST go watch Dancing with the Stars.
Comments: Henry's memorial service was packed. His family is very nice-looking. I saw Peaches from across the room, and spoke very briefly with Vick Haak.
Comments: Claudia and Henry's granddaughter is Abby.. There's a few pictures of Abby on FB.. (I'm not for sure if there is another grandchild or not) Really nice things said about Henry...I'm sure Kellie Coomes McFarlane appreciates all these comments.. Does anyone know if Gary Strzinek...knows..? Ginger Hearn
Comments: Barry, meant to tell you I made a donation to the Wounded Warrior Weekend. It is so good to read these memories of Henry. Don't you hope someone will say such good things about us when we are gone..?yeah right.....not a chance for me!!! Haaaaaaaa!
Comments: I played basketball in the 7th grade at Clinton P. Russell. Since most elementary schools only had six grades we had to played 7th grade teams from the Junior highs. When we played Boude Storey I had to defend Henry since I was the tallest guy on our team. He was about a foot taller than me and was impossible to stop. On one play he and I got our legs tangled going for a rebound and both fell to the court. Henry landed on my right hand and broke my index finger ending my season. After I got to Storey Henry told me on several occasions how sorry he was that I got hurt. He was a super nice guy, and will be missed by many friends as well as his family.
Comments: I knew Henry as a schoolmate, always so nice and such a gentleman. Who at Boude Storey and SOC could forget seeing him approaching from down the hall, a head taller than most of the boys (and some of us girls.) I plan to attend his memorial tomorrow.
Comments: Many times I asked Henry 'how's the weather up there'? One time, after asking the question, I felt 2 large hands lift me up and there we were eye to eye and he asked, 'how is it on Mt. Coomes'? I responded, 'sunny/warm with unlimited visibility'. In so many games, Henry would say, 'hold on, follow me we're going for a ride'. And I held on, we went for a ride, most always successful, due to his efforts and we laughted later. Now, with all respect, God has a good right tackel and an outstanding man on his team. He is missed. I learned last night from my brothers Bill and Al. They will attend the services Tuesday. I can not. Please, pass all my love to Mary, his family and to all of you..
Comments: Thank you for sharing that...what you are involved in is quite impressive and I know it must be so gratifying to support our warriors who have suffered for freedom. To be there in person must be a thrill and a heart ache at the same time to see a few of the many who have given so much. And, now, I realize how many there must be.
Comments: I was sorry to read about the passing of Henry-he will be missed. I want to report that Warriors Weekend in Port O'Connor went off without a hitch this past weekend. Over 350 wounded soldiers from all across the country we treated with a weekend of celebration and fishing. We took three young men fishing and one of them commented that he had never felt such an outpouring of gratitude and pride. Port O'Connor is a special and very patriotic place. The community is small, mostly lower income and nearly every family has had a death or injury to a family member or someone they know in either Iraq or Afghanistan. Because of this, the wounded soldiers have a very special place in their hearts. I feel blessed to have participated the past 3 years. Comments: Hello Everyone! I just stopped by and noticed much conversation about the Golden Debs. I am in the process of writing a history from those Golden Years...much about the Debs. I have contacts with those from the early years and many great photos which will be included. I would like to take it all the way through 1966, Miss Thomas' last year. I do not have a group photo of the following groups; 1963, 64, 65 and 66. Nor do I have a list of each year's senior Debs. If I cannot get a group photo, I would like to at least have a photo of the officers from each of those years. If you can help me with this, please email the information to thesunshinerose@yahoo.com My project is coming along nicely and I will let you know when I publish it to the internet! Thank you ladies for any help you can offer. Those lists and photos will be very valuable to the accuracy of what I am doing! Hugs! Claudia ![]()
Comments: Will do Charlotte.. I think Kellie is very absorbed right now.. she'll get back to me later...If not I'll chase her down..she's on Facebook..so I can find her there or email..now... ![]()
Comments: Ginger, thank you for your thoughtfulness in posting about our high school class mate. It is so sad to learn of Henry's death. Claudia is in Assisted Living?. Do you know her condition? If you find out that information would you please let us know by coming back here and posting? We would appreciate that very much.
Comments: Henry's sister Mary Coomes-Marsh, address: 10404 Holly Creek Road, Terrell, Tx 75160. I am sure she would appreciate cards regarding Henry. He will be surely missed. Please post the services if anyone obtains this information. Thank you.
Comments: Kellie has emailed me 2-3 times now. I don't know what happened to my original email to her.. I had found Claudia about a year ago and she emailed me back..then I didn't hear from her anymore.. Kellie told me that Claudia is in an 'assisted living' place, and that's why I have not heard from her.. I believe Kellie has a daughter..too..There's one grandchild..I think.. Kellie's the one that is dealing with all this.. I think Mary Coomes is still around..anyone have contact with her..? Ginger Hearn
Comments: How very sad to learn about Henry Coomes' passing, just as I was about to post information about the upcoming SOC luncheon in June. Henry was one of our leaders, and I know he will be missed dearly by his friends and family.

Your Location: McKinney, TX Comments: I am the daughter of Claudia Cash and Henry Coomes. I happened across your blog doing some research a couple of weeks back. I tried to reach out to Ginger Hearn, but I don't think she received my email. I noticed that you guys were concerned and wanting the details of Dad's condition. Dad passed away yesterday. He has courageously fought serious heart problems since the late nineties and two years ago was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Seven weeks ago, Dad's doctors told us that his only chance for survival was to install a heart pump (LVAD) which would bridge him through the process of determining if he were eligibile for a transplant. The surgery was risky, but it had to be done. If it had worked, he could have played golf and resumed a normal life. He had the surgery three weeks ago, and never recovered. His circulation was poor and other vital organs did not respond with the pump. I know he loved his classmates at SOC. He spoke fondly of his school friends, and many of you still had a close bond. We will all miss him very much.
Comments: Ginger, I just read the Adamson website I am sorry that Henry had heart trouble and cancer. I never knew that he and Claudia Cash had a child together. Did their daughter Kelly graduate from Adamson? Since both her parents graduated from SOC, what is the connection to Adamson.? My condolences to Henry's family.
Comments: Correction: Kellie Coomes posted today. Henry died yesterday..
Comments: I'm going against my decision not to post on this site.. Kellie Coomes had emailed me...weeks back..I emailed her, but apparently she never got the email...! She posted on www.whadamson63 this morning.. Go there and read her post.. Henry Coomes died this morning.. He had indeed had heart trouble..Had some kind of pump..put in, weeks ago, but he was also diagnosed with bladder cancer.. I'm so sorry to hear this.. Loved Henry, as a friend from 'way back' at Boude Storey..I wore his jacket some and it hung down to my calves...! You can email Kellie from the Adamson site...too. I emailed her and then read all the post... I've got to email her again... So sorry, we have lost Henry Coomes.... Ginger Hearn
Comments: Michael and Charlotte, I am so sorry for your friends. Horses don't know the damage they can do by their sheer size. I learned that my Facebook account has been hacked and my password changed, so I couldn't post my farewell on there. I hope everyone will un-friend me just to be safe. The techs at MicroCenter told me my computer crash could have been caused by trojans picked up by clicking links in Facebook, so it's good-bye to them. It was fun. There's going to be a SOC luncheon soon, so I'll post any info I get. The info is on FB.
Comments: Michael, this is horrible news...I know the surprising mishaps with horse very well. about 5 years ago my friend's 2 year old grand son crawl under a fence...spooked a horse and was stomped to death in a second I am so sorry and will pray for this family!
Comments: I want to ask our friends on the guestbook to pray for a dear christian friend. Kanin Asay is a young bullrider who loves the Lord and lives the life. His Dad and Mother have a ranch in Wyoming. Today his Mother was kicked in the head by one of her horses. She did not survive her injuries. I can't begin to tell you what a wonderful christian family Kanin comes from. Sometimes things happen and we simply cannot understand why. Please call Kanin Asay's name in prayer. |
