Any eagle followers out there?  I think we're about to hatch an egg.  Dad Eagle just brought a fish for the baby's first meal.

I remember him, too; thanks for taking the extra effort to locate the picture.  It is a tragic situation, in which there are no winners.

John, thank you for finding and posting that junior picture of Jimmy Kincaid. Now that I see him, I remember him from Lisbon. He was a quiet, low-key student.  What a tragic ending for his life.  My sympathy to his loved ones.

According to the Student Directory, Jimmy lived at 1339 Hortense.

I remember him.  But, John is right, he was just a nice, steady, sort of shy boy as far as I remember.  What a tragedy for all concerned.

I remember Jimmy Kincaid going back as far as Jr. High at Zumwalt. He may have been one of the kids that attended Fernwood Baptist with me also, but I'm fuzzy on that one.

No matter who was "in the right" when the bullets began flying, it was still a tragic episode for all concerned and the extended family. Below is a pic of Jimmy from his junior year at SOC. He was one of those kids that was not a compulsive-joiner of clubs (like some, me included). Just one of those steady kids in the background.

I don't remember Jimmy either, but we had a lot of students at SOC. If the situation was as described, the police acted correctly.

Barry, my son had an ordeal with his pistol one evening, he does have a right to carry license.  He was at the lake with friends and was leaving the area when a car load of young spanish boys backed into my son's truck and damaged the driver's side door of the pickup.  My son asked them if they had insurance, then they started taunting him and making gestures to hurt him and his passenger, stating they were going to call their friends to come and "take him out" in different words of course.   My son pulled his gun out for protection and told them to stay still until the police arrived and was calling 911 at the same time to keep them from harming him.  The police did arrive, took the boys in as they were underage and drinking.  They also confiscated my son's gun and told him if he had stayed in his vehicle with the gun it would have been fine as your truck/car is the same as in your home, so to speak, but when you step out of the vehicle and point a gun, it is taken by the police.  He had to pick up the gun later at the station.  So if you are defending yourself from harm or question of harm, be sure you stay in your vehicle.  Just another lesson learned.

Sad situation, but I don't think anyone can fault the Garland Police in this situation. They were called to the neighborhood about a man waving a gun. When they arrived they told him to drop the gun and he apparently did not and leveled it at them, so they shot. An officer has a split second to make a decision and if you wait two "splits" you could get shot.

Even if he had no intention of harming them, they did not know that. He should have done as commanded.

Phyllis, I looked in the '63 Den for Jimmy Kincaid, and there is no picture.  His name is on the list of those not pictured.  When I have time, I'll see if I can find him in ROTC or something.

I don't remember Kincaid either (I'm pretty senile), but it's very sad.  Seems like Police in the Metroplex believe in shooting first and asking questions later if one is holding something that appears to be a gun.  Wish we had a Den online, so I could look up the people I can't remember.

I did not know Jimmy Kincaid, but I did read the link and the personal posts to the paper and it was all quite disturbing.  You have to be really careful today if you show a gun, even on your own property.  A friend's 30 year old son was arrested last week and taken to jail after he heard a disturbance outside his apartment door.  It was late at night and the apartment maintenance man was using a leaf blower just outside the door.  The son went to the door, pistol in hand, and told the guy to leave.  He did not point the gun at the maintenance man nor did he threaten him.  He just thought leaf blowing should be done during the day. A couple of hours later, the police came and arrested him.  If you have a gun, keep it concealed, even if you have a CHL.  His parents had to post a sizable bond to get their son out of jail.

Mike, thank you for the reminder about Jesse King.  I appreciate the reminder.

Phil, I agree.  The Dallas News story is a disturbing one.  I've never seen them use the word "curmudgeon" to describe a shooting victim.  Some of the comments, especially from Jimmy's daughter, were interesting.

Reading the story of Jimmy's death as reported in the Dallas Morning News is disturbing.  I did not know him well, but my prayers are with his family.

Lynell,

Jesse King passed away from liver failure in Waxahachie around 2000. You may want to add his name to the Memoriam page. He and Jimmy were good friends. Jesse and I grew up across the street from each other.

Thank you Mike for posting that info about Jimmy Kincaid, he had lived down the street from Gary and his brother David and they had known him since they were all about 4 years of age.  We had not heard about this until you posted this and are saddened to hear of this mortal incident against a former classmate.    On the other hand too, will let you all know that Tommy Barr will have his surgery on the 17th of March at Baylor in Irving.  Tommy takes care of his aging mother and there are no family members to take care of him, when he comes home. Hopefully they can have home health services go there to help him out on some of his days when arriving home.  Prayers are asked for him during his surgery and his recovery after this heart surgery.  God Bless our Classmates.

I wish Tommy Bar the very best on his surgery.  He will feel like a new man once everything starts working right again.

Is anybody else tired of this March wind?  It'll blow the hat right off your head, and your hair along with it.

Bill, I spent some time and money at "Up Your Alley" too. Wonder what happened to the "Lovely and Talented James" (the third member of the band)? Have a friend who is the only person I ever heard correctly sing "Old Ben Lucas" and won a pitcher of beer every time he went. Someone in our group almost always won the jalapeno eating contest. That place was a lot of fun and those guys were very funny.

Boley and Wilson did move to their own bar a few blocks away from Up Your Alley but it only lasted a few years, then the band split up.

Don't know what happened to Boley, but John Wilson worked with me during the 80s and early 90s at Barry's Camera & Video in Dallas. I was a buyer and marketing guy and he worked in our advertising dept. He still did a few singing gigs. The last place I remember was at a mexican restaurant in Rockwall on the shore line of Lake Ray Hubbard.

You know Bill I was having kids in the 70s, 70, 71 and 73.  Sure did not have time to frequent any bar, ha.  In fact did not go to one until I turned 30 years of age in East Texas, I believe it was called The Orange Blossum, that's where I learned to two-step!

Did anybody else ever frequent Up Your Alley (a bar in Dallas off Greenville and Yale Blvd) back in the 70s? Boley and Wilson and their band had a hilarious version of "I Did It My Way".

Paul Anka also wrote the song "I did it my way" for Frank Sinatra.
