Comments: I often think of Katie Sharp. I have not seen her since graduation. I'm sure you remember my "going to Katie's house" escapade when we were in first grade. I will never forget it and when she was living, Momma wouldn't let me forget it. I would love to see Katie. We were actually good friends in school. I think Gracie Henry might know where Katie is if anyone knows how to get in touch with her. Martha Speaks worked with Katie at the Army Exchange for a long time.
Comments: I remember at Harrell Budd, in the 7th grade, we had dances in the gym...on Friday afternoons, I think. Danny Green and I were the only boys who would do "the Bop.". And I remember taking girls behind the gym to steal a kiss. Got caught once and had to explain my actions to Mr. Hilton and Miss Prather. Made sure I never got caught again!
Comments: Wanda, how nice to see you here! We don't offer the glitz of FB, but we love hearing from you. I think we'd all be in jail these days for the stuff that went on in grade school! Shooting water, slapping -- One day while waiting for the bus, Buddy Campbell hit me over the head with a book. I think it was a speller, because it was a lightweight book. I remember kicking him in the leg. Miss Wroe would not have approved, or maybe she would. I wonder if any boys squirted her with the water fountain or whacker her head with a book. I wonder what happened to Buddy Campbell, that tall blond boy named Eddie, Katie Sharp, and all the others who went their own ways.
Comments: Good morning all. I have been gone for a long time and decided it was high time I got back with the program. Reading the back posts, I see that we have lost Jimmy Kincaide in a tragic event. I remember Jimmy all the way back to Lisbon. There was a group of us who walked home from Lisbon and Jimmy would sometimes join us. He had a sweet smile and was a very nice kid. I remember that he was kind of quiet, but made lots of friends. I also saw that we lost Jesse King sometime back. Jesse was another of our "walking home" group. He lived at Kingsley and West Frio which was only about two blocks from where I lived at Ramona and Owega. I have a cherished memory of Jesse. We were at Lisbon, probably in the 6th or 7th grade. The bell had rung and there was a bunch of us on each side of what we called the "water trough" getting a drink. The boys loved to turn the fountain up so it would get the hair of the girl next to them wet. I must have been PMSing early in life, because when Jesse turned that water on my hair, I stood up and slapped him without even thinking about it. I think it shocked me more than it did him. Both our mouths were hanging open. After a few days, Jesse waited until I came out of school to walk home and apologized to me and I apologized to him and we walked home together and laughed about the experience. My memories of both these boys are that they were sweet friends. Even though I have not seen either of them in a long, long time, it saddens me to know they are gone.
Comments: Phil Pelch E Me
Comments: Johnny: I stopped by with your gifts, but the guy that answered the door said that you had moved unexpectedly and were living in the house with that guy that ran for governor. What was his name? Rafi? Saleb? Whatever? I know you were looking forward to seeing me. Barry
Comments: Thanks, Phil. I'll be around the house all day tomorrow if you want to drop off a little something.
Comments: Happy Birthday Geocache John!
Comments: Venita, you are so right. Everything I remember or ever heard about Jimmy Kincaid is that he was an okay guy. I guess the lesson for the rest of us is to keep both hands in clear view of the police, should we ever deal with them.
Comments: So sorry to hear about Jim Kincaid I did not know him in school, but I worked with him and we had a lot of good times at A A Mfg. co. in Garland.I was shocked to hear about his death only with I had known sooner my heart goe out to Lia he spoke of her often the funny thing is all the time I worked with him and we ran with some of the same people I did not connect him to SOC. However I did know that he use to date Brenda Taylor now Brenda Taylor Button but did not know this was the same person that went to Soc. Small world, I know Jim would not of acted as they said he did he was a kind gental man and I will miss him.
Comments: I join Lynell in wishing Geo Johnny a belated Happy Birthday. Hopefully, next year will be better for you and your family.
Comments: A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my favorite geocacher, JOHN SOUTHWORTH. Extra smilies for you, my friend.
Comments: That Polish girl likes This is How We Do It, so I hear.
Comments: Which hymn does the Pole like to dance to?
Comments: Man, you should see that Pole dance! (pray for me)
Comments: Hey Jud, I just saw a spot on our local news about your new business in Spring. Pole Dancing for Jesus. How are you selling that?
Comments: Now I know why Akins was always on the Honor Roll.
Comments: Not being greedy, I'll take a SMALL bag of large bills.
Comments: Jud, I think you're right. People are distracted by the bright lights over at Facebook. Kathleen, sounds like a nice trip! Houston starts a lot further north than it used to! Somewhere near Huntsville, in fact. I remember going there to visit cousins when I was a teenager and seeing the Houston City Limits sign on the highway a long way from the city. It's always rush hour there, so those So. Texas SOCites must be tough. Oh, and Jud, a nice-sized SUV full of cash would be about right. Thanks.
Comments: Bill, that is a motley crew! Lynell, I don't know if everyone is just busy, or if you're seeing the impact of FB. Speaking of busy, I'm off to Boston the rest of the week...meeting with a bunch of money managers. How much money should I bring back for you?
Comments: Sorry John about calling you John Southland. I took a muscle relaxent last night so the old brain is not fully perking. John here is wishing you an early "Happy Birthday." Bill maybe we should round up the usual suspects and have a "spring fling" like the '62 class does every year. The last party we had in Houston was a big success.
Comments: Kathleen, Thank your lucky stars that you still live in the Metromess. If someone said to, "Round up the usual suspects", you'd probably start with Jud, JS, Mary, Philip, Johnny and Strange Lady.
Comments: To the Czarina, I am enjoying spring time. We went to Galveston this weekend along with all the college students who were there enjoying their spring break. It seems like a lot of them were there with their families. I told my husband this must be the poor man's place to go due to the high gas prices and the inflated hotel rates. Also, a lot of people aren't traveling to Mexico anymore. As we were driving into Conroe, I thought about calling Mary McCord Bach to see how she was doing. I thought Mary sure lives in a pretty place with all the trees. Then we arrived in the Woodlands and Spring and I thought about John Southland and Jud. It is impressive how many people I know in Houston. Since I have almost never been to Houston, I surprised myself with how many people I know who live in Houston. Driving through Houston was another surprise, but it was worth it to see the ocean.
Comments: Any 63ers living in Pa. or Md. or Jersey,or have friends/family up there.I need to share!
Comments: Is this a guestbook or a painting? Is anyone other than your web czarina enjoying springtime?
Comments: Glen Starnes where are you. Peaches Walker you too! I read all the comments and it took me back a few years of memories of thoes that I knew. Mary Mccord Bach it has been a long time! You all were such nice people to know and be around in thoes neat days at SOC. Sorry I had to leave and go to Adamson. Thanks for the memories!
Comments: Please, everybody, remember to keep Tommy Barr in your prayers,as he goes in for quadruple by-pass surgery ,tomorrow. Thanks
Comments: Geez Jud - as they say timing is everything. Too bad you did not work that into your Hong Kong adventure. You would have been home by now and have seen it prior to this tragic event. They will recover but I think we will be a lot older before they do. So sad. Enjoyed your photos of Hong Kong. Your wife and I found we had something in common...I like that gal of yours.
Comments: Jud: I would be first in line for a refund. It will be years before anyone can vacation around that area. I haven't read too much about the rest of the island, but I assume it's business as usual.
Comments: On July 6 we're scheduled to fly to Shanghai, board the "Legend of the Seas" and cruise thru Japan and South Korea, then back to Shanghai. Think that might change? |
