Comments: John: Your greeting is so touching!
Comments: Where do I sign up John? I have a ton of experience in the art of ugly.
Comments: While I'm on the topic of "ugly", let me be the first to extend Happy Birthday Greetings to the Pride of Southlake ... Barry Gibbs!
Comments: Last night the new season of "The Bachelor" kicked off. It is one of Dru's favorite shows and she tries to get me to sit down and watch it with her. Brad Womack is the "Bachelor" this time around and he hails from Austin. As I understand it, he was also a contestant on the show three years back and he broke some hearts then. I'm thinking the only reason he is back is to take advantage of the great travel trips the show now offers and to smooch on 30 different girls. I could use a free ride to Europe or Tahiti or where ever. My question is this: How come the guys and gals are never "ugly" on this show. I think it's high time the network put on an "Ugly Bachelor" show. Hey, ugly people need love too. Am I right, Jud?
Comments: Good one, Bill. I have to say that was one yummy, soft yet crunchy, slightly salty but yet chocolatey and sweet Snickers bar.
Comments: I always resolve not to make resolutions. That way I don't feel like a failure about Jan 4th.
Comments: It was a sad task today to put sweet darlin' Jimmy Nicodemus on our Memoriam page. He shared his twinkling eyes and handsome smile with everyone. Now, we must move on to other subjects. Any New Year resolution? I confess that I resolved not to buy candy bars in the checkout lane. Today, January 4, a Snickers called my name loudly at Walgreen's. To shut it up, I had to buy it and eat it in the parking lot.
Comments: I was planning to comment that I had 9 months until my 66th birthday and still wouldn't be able to get in good enough shape to match Larry Macon's 66th birthday activities. Then I saw the posts about Jimmy Nicodemus. Everyone loved him and Donna; they will be sorely missed.

Comments: Not only were Donna and Jimmy "lookers," Mrs. Nic was simply beautiful, and equally as sweet. Thanks for letting us know about her, Janelle. (Gosh, a wonderful thought just came to mind...their family is together again.)
Comments: Janelle, thank you. Mrs. Nic must have been a good woman to have raised such children, although good children sometimes spring from interesting sources. I hope you are happy and faring well, and doing high kicks with that knee. We just love hearing from you, so please don't be a stranger here.
Comments: Betty, I remember Donna well from Miss Pirtle's typing class. That girl could type so fast! And it didn't rattle her that the period was split and we'd go to lunch in the middle of it. Donna was a darling, and as nice and good-looking as Jimmy. Alzheimer's is horrid enough, but to combine it with Parkinson's?? Lordy, Lordy. My darling father-in-law had Parkinson's, and it's a dilly.
Comments: Yes to both questions. Mrs. Nick and Jimmy have recently passed away. She only a few months back.
Comments: Lynell, it must be Jimmy because the article mentioned a long battle with Alzheimer's. Yes, he was a handsome guy. I loved his family. Donna was an incredible friend to many of us. The guest book is still up on the DMN website.
Comments: Oh, Betty, how heartbreaking. I last saw Jimmy at Terry McIntire's funeral. He was still handsome and nice, and he was trying to deal with his Alzheimer's. He said, "Gee, I know I know you from somewhere, but I can't remember your name right now." Thank you for letting us know. His birthday must have been in the fall, making him 66 now. What a sad way for our class to start the year, losing Jimmy. How very sorry I am for his loved ones.
Comments: Betty, Jimmy is from the '63 class. Don't know when his birthday is, but he could be 66.
Comments: Help...is Jimmy Nicodemus from the class of '62? I posted there inquiring about the DMN obit listing James "Nick" Nicodemus, age 66. Is this our Jimmy? And has Mrs. Nic passed away? Donna has been gone quite a few years now (I'm sad to say) and we've lost touch with the family. Would appreciate any info you have. Also: Happy New Year to all you wonderful '63ers.

Comments: My review won't be as eloquent as JS's but Donna and I saw The King's Speech yesterday and it was a GREAT movie. Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush will certainly be Oscar contenders!
Comments: I would suggest on a less cerebral plane than John's foray. I would suggest a more entertaining time would be had going to see 'The Fighter' excellent movie or the new version of 'True Grit' very entertaining and great dialogue! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Comments: Last night Dru and I rung in the New Year while watching George Clooney's latest movie - "The American". It is billed as a "thriller" but it is more of a slow motion study of living one's life in isolation. ![]() If I had to classify the movie it would fall into the category of Noir Vague (emphasis on 'Vague'). The dark moodiness of Clooney's character is juxtaposed against the stark beauty of winter in Sweden, and later the verdant hillsides of Italy. I think it is worth viewing if for no other reason than to take in the stunning contours of the land and the contours of young Clara. Don't count on a lot of dialogue and be prepared to wade through some subtitles. Movies like this make me see the underlying wisdom behind Jud's globe-trotting.
Comments: Happy 2011 to you all-SOC '63 ers!

Comments: I'm getting ready to leave my office until Monday and just wanted to wish all a very Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year.
Comments: Clyde, I'd love to do some metal detecting in Virginia and Penn. but it seems I do more traveling westward than eastward. Here is a question for ALL of you - How will you be spending your 66th birthday? If your name is Larry Macon (who turns 66 tomorrow) you'll be running a marathon in Ocala, FL. Not much pressure ... he's just trying to set a new Guinness Record of running 106 marathons in a calendar year. If you recall, in 2008 he broke the old record by running 105 marathons. Now he's attempting to break his own record. To up the stakes, 52 yr. old Yolanda Holder set a new women's record of 101 marathons in early December. Then she announced she would push further to run 106 marathons by year-end to beat Larry's 105 record! Both Larry and Yolanda will be running together this week in Florida. There are a series of daily marathons called the "Savage Seven". They are unique in that each marathon is run on an oval high school track (don't ask me how many laps that is?). Here is a pic of Larry finishing Marathon #103 on that high school track earlier this week. ![]()
Comments: Happy New Year, everyone!
Comments: Clyde, thanks for clarifying. Yep, don't mess with Charlotte, especially when she's armed with a cleaning instrument. I'm allergic to my computer some days, too.
Comments: Lynell, You can change your jammies now (but there is more to the story). |
