Comments: Fun game...of the big 4 networks it's Fox network for sports, CBS for the big bang theory, two and half men, and how I met your mother...History, Discovery, Blue hwy TV, RFD TV, and last but not least Daystar.
Comments: Yes, best wishes to Henry, the tallest boy I ever saw. My hope is that he surprises the medical folks. If anyone could, it's Henry C. On another note, my prediction: The big TV networks will bite the dust in a few years because the reality shows will not go to syndication and the big three are not putting up that much programming a person would want to lose another hour of their life viewing again. They won't be able to resell reality like they did shows that required, dare I say it, talent. What network do you watch most? My fave is HGTV, followed by History, followed by whatever I've recorded and can zip through.
Comments: It's a shame we don't hear from Claudia Cash or Henry Coomes. They were such standouts back in the day. If that had been Claudia that Phyllis was talking with, you'd think one or the other of them would have said "You look kind of familiar?". Claudia and Henry were married from Dec. 1964 to Mar. 1973 and I think they had a child. Then Henry married Linda Kay Carrell (May 1973 to Nov. 1980) and I believe they had a son. Googling around the internet shows that Henry married Laura McCommas in June 1981. I wish him a speedy recovery from his health issues.
Comments: Phyllis - I had been wondering about the Coombs family for years. I used to run around with Mary Coombs from the class of 65 in Boude Storey and SOC. I have not heard or seen her since our graduation. Was the lady named Claudia? Seems he used to date a Claudia in HS and I thought they got married but she seems to have disappeared as well. My brother had a funny story recently. He likes to canoe and bike ride. He was in a competition canoe ride with a guy named Jim (?) Collins. They struck up a conversation for sharing the canoeing experience. Since Dale goes to Joe Pool Lake a lot to canoe and this guy lives in Arlington goes there as well, they traded telephone numbers and met up there one Saturday morning recently. While on the lake and during much exchange of conversation, things narrowed down to him talking about his Dad and Uncle David that lived on Exeter. Bingo Ted and David Collins that lived only 2 houses and one cross street from us on Exeter. How small can the world get?
Comments: I wrote a check the other day to purchase some hand-made Aggie Rose jewelry being sold by the artist in the lobby of my office building. The artist's companion saw my address on Bishop and said, "oh, she lives in Oak Cliff!" Turns out both of them were -- originally -- from the OC. The artist formerly lived on Bishop herself and graduated from Sunset. Her friend said she had attended Zumwalt and was the ex-wife of Henry Coomes, with whom she has children. She said Henry is suffering from some serious health problems. Disney's right; "it's a small world, after all!"
Comments: Luncheon photos are great. Peaches your house looked very Christmassy (sic) Lost track of how many photos Lonnie was in,all with pretty women.
Comments: Yes, John as Lynell says be careful fiddling with someone's pole
Comments: Interesting finds, John. Do you ever worry about getting arrested while fiddling with utility poles? Your bravery is commendable.
Comments: Well, Phil, at least in your eyes I got to be "The Man" for almost 24 hours! This morning I went metal detecting at Terramont Park which is the closet park to my little grandson's home. While there I decided to chase down a geocache named "Sundance 1". My GPS told me I was within 6 ft. of the cache but the only prominent feature was a black light pole at the edge of the basketball court. I checked under the "skirt" at the base of the pole (which is a frequent hiding place) but found nothing. I pulled on a black faceplate on the pole but it was securely fastened. Just as I was about to give up I kind of studied a chrome faceplate that appeared to be screwed to the pole. I gave it a gentle tug and it came off in my hand! It was held in place by four little magnets! Inside was a small log to sign. It indicated that the cache had been hiding here since 6/4/2008 and I was the 45th person to sign the log. Very innovative. http://people.consolidated.net/swsw/sundance1.jpg http://people.consolidated.net/swsw/sundance2.jpg About 50 yards away I discovered a toolbox chained to a tree. It was padlocked and had a sign on it saying "Where in The Woodlands is Rudolph?". It wasn't a geocache - maybe some sort of promotion? http://people.consolidated.net/swsw/t-pk5.jpg
Comments: Sorry John, I thought you were one of the 4 who found the woman's pipe. I know you were there in spirit
Comments: John You the man!
Comments: Sorry, in the pic in the previous post - Mark is standing at the far LEFT. He's the guy that rented a detector to the gal with the Conroe Landfill problem.
Comments: One more tale from the Tomball metal detecting club. Last month a lady contacted the club with an unusual request. She owned a ranch and several years ago a load of 30 ft. drilling pipe was stolen from her. It was to be used to build fences and pens. The suspected culprit was her ex-husband. Recently, she received a tip that the missing pipe was buried on a ranch outside of Bellville (30 miles west of Houston). She was given the approximate location within an area of about 100 yards. Four members of the club offered to make the trip to Bellville to attempt to locate the purloined pipes. They pulled up on the side of the road, surveyed the lay of the land and searched for two hours. Came up with nothing. One member noted that the only place they hadn't looked was where the cars where parked. They moved the cars and in three minutes picked up the signal of something LARGE under the ground. Got out the shovels and dug down two feet - Whammo! - there was the long hidden pipes! http://people.consolidated.net/swsw/pipes.jpg Mark (the metal detector distributor) at far right: http://people.consolidated.net/swsw/pipes2.jpg
Comments: I hope that lady has good luck and finds her jewelry. Sounds like a gross task. Recently I was at Pei Wei, preparing my drink and gathering fortune cookies and stuff. I heard a "ping" sound and noticed my gold earring was missing. A man behind me said he thought he saw it go down the hole to the trashcan. He pulled out the trashcan and dug till he found the earring. And they say don't talk to strangers!
Comments: I'm a member of the local metal detecting club and the club stands ready to assist people who have lost jewelry or other metallic items. Usually at no charge. Yesterday the club was contacted by a woman in Conroe, requesting that any interested member meet her this morning at the Conroe Landfill and bring along their metal detector. The back story is that she'd been at a theater yesterday and somehow knocked over her purse. Contents spilled everywhere including into a nearby trash can. The purse contained two rings, one of which was found and turned in to the theater. She surmises the other was in the trashcan. Later in the day she decided to go it on her own, called off the club, and rented a detector from a local distributor (they rent for $25 to $45 a day). She somehow found out when and where the garbage truck with the theater's dumpster contents will arrive. Her plan is to be there and start digging and swinging the metal detector. I don't have high hopes for her success but eagerly await a report from Mark (the detector proprietor) on her search. It was 35 degrees in Conroe this morning.
Comments: oh, Aretha!! I am so sad!
Comments: Many more photos of the luncheon....so fun to see the good times and friends! Thank you Lonnie and Lynell! Wishing Everyone Merry Christmas!
Comments: Lonnie has e-mailed me his pictures from the luncheon at Peaches' house. Check 'em out on the link on the Images page. They're still uploading, so give it a little while. Thank you, Lonnie!
Comments: Happy Belated Anniversary, Sharon, and many more!
Comments: Those were big raisin & walnut cookies, and they were delicious! Unlike Sharon, I didn't take mine home!
Comments: Sharon, a belated happy anniversary! That was one gorgeous cookie.
Comments: A little snow can't keep me from shopping...That was still very much in tact.. ha! Yes, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SHARON!
Comments: Happy Anniversary Sharon and Steve. I thought you had been married longer than that.
Comments: And the shopping? Is it still intact?
Comments: Sharon, I just went up to check on things...yep the mountains are still there...ha! I can think of plenty of excuses to go. ![]()
Comments: Charlotte, you are absolutely right, it was a huuuuge cookie, but I didn't eat it! By that time I was so full that I took it home to Steve (he had to work) who really enjoyed it. Have you decided to take up full-time residency in CO? Steve and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary today. I really can't quite believe where all the years have gone.
Comments: Looks like a fun party! Enjoyed seeing the pics. Peaches, next year would you please plan the party around MY schedule? Strange Lady, I bet it's beautiful there! I'm envious.
Comments: Sharon, is that a giant cookie on your plate in your photo? haaaaaaaaaaa! Everyone looks so happy and festive. Peaches' house looks beautiful as usual. Looks like a wonderful time was had by all. Thank you for posting the photos Lynell. The closer I get to the number, the more I realize how early 70s deaths are. I know Don probably needed to go. I wonder if too many hits to his head caused his dementia? That is a concern these days. My mother died of a heart attack at 73....sheesh...that is 8 years from my age right now and Terry's father died of a heart attack at 62...WOW..hard to realize now that I am here. On a lighter note...It is snowing right now in Steamboat Springs, CO and the mountains are gorgeous!
Comments: Sorry we missed the luncheon, Gary was at the deer lease, Brenda Kemp and I had gone to Canton the day before, all that walking, we were in no shape to travel again on Sunday, ha. Glad everyone had such a great time. Sharon, I read that about Dandy Don too, I worked with him in 1971 and 1972, right when he married Susan who he met in New York at the time, they were married for 38 years. He was such a great guy to work with at the McKenzie Baer Law Firm, was just as he was on TV with that great personality and smile. He will be sorely missed by so many of us.
Comments: Thanks to all for the great party. Everything was wonderful, as usual. I just saw that Dandy Don passed away last night at the age of 72. Brings back lots of memories of the early Cowboys at the Cotton Bowl and, of course, Monday Night Football. |
