Comments: You may be that too, but too much is what I meant! ![]()
Comments: John, you are just toooo mcuh!!!! I am still laughing!
Comments: John & Phyliss, I'm not sure about the big corporations donations, since the Dems are outspending the Reps. I guess it is the same unnamed donors that Obama refused to release, or is it the Chinese nuns for Clinton ?Or Chinagategate Johhny Chung for Kerry or 400000 dollars from dishwashers in NYC citys poorest section for Hillary? hmmm
Comments: I went back to my cedar chest and dusted off some of my old campaign buttons - thereby, recalling that in the voting booth, I tend to be a danger to myself and those around me.
Comments: I'm voting anyway. What the heck! It's probably the last American election that won't be totally -- previously, they've just been partially -- bought and sold by corporate interests, since the Supreme Court gave corporations greater free speech rights than natural persons. It may be a fruitless -- merely symbolic -- gesture, but it's our only meaningful opportunity to have a voice in our government.

Comments: Ahem ... Lynell, that is not a "shrunken head". It is a replica of Jose G. Posada's illustration titled Lagartijo. To Posada, the figure represented Mexico's fat-cat politicans of the 1880's strutting around with their big cigars, walking sticks and fancy footwear. Today, one would visualize Rick Perry with a hat on. ![]()
Comments: I am totally creeped out by JS's shrunken head collection starter piece!
Comments: Voting is no longer in the unwashed hands of the "public". Wisely, it is best left to the Corporations and major business interests to make those decisions in our behalf (thereby saving us the expense of a trip to the polls). Don't forget November 2nd is also Dia de los Muertos - a day to celebrate the lives and memories of our deceased friends and family members. To this end, I acquired some art pieces inspired by Jose Guadalupe Posada. In the late 1800's he created the skeletal likenesses of Catrina and Lagartio which have been assimilated into the holiday celebration. ![]()
Comments: John S trying to get a rise out of us? noooooo, not the John. ![]() ![]() It worked tho, didn't it?John, I am enjoying your adventures. Sounds fun!
Comments: Barry, I'm with you. But I suspect that Indiana Southworth was fully tongue-in-cheek.
Comments: In spite of John's comments, it is our Patriotic duty to vote. What if everyone had John's attitude? Think about it. Personally, I'm glad John is not voting because that means my vote will count that much more. Whether you are a conservative or a mis-guided liberal like Johnny, get off your duff tomorrow and vote. Take your metal detector with you and see how many Democrat campaign buttons you can find in the dirt.
Comments: Phyllis, haa. I like the way you think. ![]() Cynthia, I thought the doc's comment was tacky. My tolerance for baloney must have been low that day! ![]() JS, WTG! That sounds like fun -- and calamine lotion will help with that poison ivy rash! ![]()
Comments: Well, Lenell, I knew it was a sign of age when doctors -- and cops -- appeared too young to us, but I didn't realize that the corrollary was true: that they, in turn, regarded us as having one foot in the grave. The best revenge, of course, is just to outlive them! That's my plan, at least, and I'm sticking to it.
Comments: What an interesting adventure John! That is really so cool. Funny comeback Lynell - did you happen to notice how small the print it on Sharon's post compared to yours? Just saying....interesting.
Comments: Have any of you out there ever done any "Geocaching"? Yesterday I completed my first two successful discoveries. Geocaching is a sort of high-tech treasure hunt, essentially utilizing expensive military satellites and GPS receivers to locate camo-covered tupperwear containers (or ammo boxes) containing mystery loot. In my case, I went online to www.geocashing.com, registered (it's free), and entered my home address to see if there were any caches (pronounced "cashes") near me. To my surprise there were nine hidden caches within 1 mile of my home and 40 of 'em within 2 miles. I entered the GPS coordinates for a cache named "On Gosling Pond" and set out to find it. It was a challenge, but finally found it stashed in a hollow tree stump, covered with big chunks of bark and surrounded by brambles in a thicket next to a really pretty pond. The container was covered with camo-material and held misc. trinkets, toys, a (timely) copy of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and a log to sign. It is customary to remove an item of your choice; but in turn you must leave something of equal or greater value. I took a nifty small car and left a snazzy Compass Rose geocoin. Signed and dated the log, re-hid the container and gave myself a "self high-five". ![]()
Comments: How wonderful that you are doing so well. My ophthmologist told me I have the beginnings of cataracts but they won't be "ripe" for another five years. He added that he knew at my age one doesn't make plans five years ahead. I asked him if he had a warranty that he will be here in 2015. He looked taken aback. I'm shopping for another doc! Enjoy those peepers, Sharon!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Comments: I can see again. Had cataract surgery Tuesday morning and am back at work. It really is a miracle. Jan's service was very sweet and I'm really going to miss her.
Comments: Perhaps John is not voting because he has no one to vote for...hmmmm? ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't cha just love these little faces?I wish I had heard that rendition of our National Anthem....I am ALWAYS impress when a singer is respectful and sings it as you say you heard it Lynell. I am getting used to a new computer tonight.......finally broke the piggy bank and bought a new desk top and laptop...yea! But, ol gals learn slowly!
Comments: I was happy to hear a real singer perform the national anthem tonight at the World Series opener. There was no trilling, warbling or other vocal gymnastics. Too bad they had to tell people to remove their hats. John, because of voter fraud I fear you are right.
Comments: Let's face facts - the act of one person voting is statistically certain to make no difference at all. Even for the most passionate partisan, it is hard to argue that voting is a good use of your time. Instead of waiting in line to vote, do as I did, and wait in line to buy a Texas Lotto ticket, hoping to win $20 million to use to advance your causes. And all with an almost indescribably greater chance of success than you'll have in the voting booth cheering for Republicans, Democrats or the Tea Party. Think it over.
Comments: Martha, I thought the same thing. Separated at birth, perhaps? Maybe that's why he grew the foliage. ![]()
Comments: Is it just me or did Leon Russell look a lot like Eddie Munster in that video?
Comments: I did not recognize that clean-looking fellow as Leon Russell. We have a great album from the 70's he made with Willie Nelson. When I say album, I mean a big, black platter. John, will you please save up those coins you find and buy me a vinyl-to-CD recording device for my birthday in a few months?
Comments: Claude Russell Bridges is 68. And right now I am watching him on TV in a current day special in which he and Elton John are playing their respective pianos. The first year Dru and I were dating (1990) I took her to a little Houston nightclub on Washington St. to hear Claude perform. To my surprise, he stunk up the place. He could no longer manage even his very best songs like Lady Blue and Delta Lady. We left early and demanded a refund. The refund was refused. I apologized to Dru and tried to convince her that he was once a major talented force in the music world. Now twenty years later it is sad watching him on TV, playing opposite a dynamo like Elton. Claude's stage name is Leon Russell. Here is a link to one of his earliest performances - before his hair turned snow white; before his HUGE hit tour with Joe Cocker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yme_DnIfR6I&feature=related
Comments: I wish I could have attended Jan's service. I am glad there was a good many SOCites there. Bob, thank you for letting us know about Bedford. I have sent Mary a note.
Comments: What a lovely service for Jan, and what a wonderful family she has. There were many SOCites present. I'm so sorry to hear about Mary's brother.
Comments: Spoke to McCord-Bach this morning. Her brother Bedford is not doing well at all. Please keep Bedford and Mary in your thoughts.
Comments: We went to the visitation last night for Jan, it was so hard to see her after just two weeks ago when she was so vibrant and full of life at the 65 BD party. We had a great visit at the party and I will truly miss her beautiful smile and laughter. She was telling me she had to drive to Ardmore, OK to buy her clothes as she could never find her size in Dallas. She was such a tiny little thing, but full of life. She will be terribly missed. God Bless Terri and Ralph and Cheryl in their loss of this beautiful lady. God Bless the Classmates.
