Comments: I can never remember how to "hide" someone on FB so I go to the help center each time. And, you only have to hide them one time.
Comments: Bill, I loved seeing your travels on FB..........thank you for sharing the photos...........I enjoy that about FB. BUT, I don't know how to hide those people. Do I have to hide them EACH time?
Comments: You can solve that problem on FB by just "hiding" those folks who insist on posting their every move and/or mood. You don't have to de-friend, just hide so you don't see all their business. I enjoy FB and it has connected me with lots of old friends and is a quick way to stay in touch.
Comments: Yeah, Cynthia....it is what it is........sigh! I guess if some of you guys and gals that lurk here don't do FB you will not see the pictures and video of the class 65th Bday party. It looks like a lot of great folks were there. Seems as tho some of the Bears have forgotten we are over here. I am sort of getting tired of tuning into FB and reading what some are having for dinner, what doctor they are seeing, what time they got up, where they itch.....sheesh! I like to see all the photos and experience the grandchildren and IMPORTANT events, but the mundane day to day logs are BOR-ING!! Helllllloooooo! I'm just sayin...........
Comments: Brenda, it doesn't seem possible that it has been a year. God bless you and you are in my prayers and thoughts.
Comments: Wanted to thank Peaches and her wonderful committee for giving us the opportunity to share our 65th birthday with our high school friends. Had a great time and enjoyed seeing everyone. Can't wait for the 50th Reunion.
Comments: I am with you Brenda - thanks so much for a lovely evening with my upper classmates. You know how to make a lovely event. The tables and birthday cakes and all were most impressive but none more than the people that were there to enjoy each other. Brenda, it was really nice to see you and be able to share dinner together along with Milo, Jana, Peaches, Roger, and Larry and Janet Perry. What a great table of people. Enjoy your Medicare and statesmanship to the class. You earned it and you do not look like you belong there yet but as they say - it is what it is. Cynthia
Comments: Just wanted to say "Thank You" to all the people involved in putting together the 65th birthday party...my first trip to the Omni without Barney...it is one year ago this month that I lost him...but being with so many loving and caring friends made it so much easier. Thank you again!!!
Comments: We're starting a Habitat house tomorrow. Our church is partnering with 11 other local Presbyterian churches to build a house in Forest Hills (just south of I20 in Ft. Worth). We had a kickoff dinner a few weeks ago and I met the guy we are building the house for. A really nice family with 2 children. I asked him where he worked and he said "#@ &*^+@ %$@!". With my poor hearing in a noisy crowd, I said "WHAT?" He repeated "We raise mice." "You raise WHAT?" "MICE" So they raise mice. I asked for who and he said who ever wants to buy them. Researchers. Pet Shops. Snake farmers. Says they have a lady drive down from OK in her van every week and takes a load back to OK for her snakes. How would you like to live in that neighborhood? He said the mayor of Fort Worth came out recently to personally inspect the business. Seems like the city gets a lot of complaints. The mayor said everything looked fine. They are looking for more property to expand the business.
Comments: Ha. Barry, you're funny. I agree that it's hard to remember people without a whole name! Heck, I barely remember what I had for lunch. Here's a follow-up to the scam story with last month's Visa bill for "home services membership." I called the 800 number and had a wishy-washy response. I asked the company to remove the charge, which they cheerfully did. Last night we tried to pay for dinner with the Visa card, only to find the account has been closed. How embarrassing! We learned that the scammers attempted a charge of nine cents yesterday -- probably to see if anyone was paying attention -- so Visa closed the account. It would have been nice had they told us, but I'm glad they caught this and prevented damage. I guess the moral to the story is to go over those credit card bills very carefully! (And carry enough cash to pay for dinner.)
Comments: So Lynell, are you saying it's OK to post using just our first name? Just kidding! I wouldn't know who most of the people were if they didn't put first and last name. I still have to look in the yearbook to remember who some are and sometimes I still don't remember them!
Comments: 69 coming. Fun, Fun, Fun. Keep those prayers going for our classmates who are having surgeries during this time, Harriett Custer, Sandra Lineberger Dunn, Tom Daniels, Harolyn Kay Davis Berry.
Comments: It's birthday celebration time. I got our hotel rooms for $90.00 (senior citizen discount). We have 66 coming. At least 15 of our regulars are either having surgery, out of town, going to a wedding, etc. etc. We are going to eat, have delicous birthday cake, listen to music from the fourties and up through the years and a few fun surprises on the screen. We can have lots of time to visit !!! See y'all Saturday, October 9th.
Comments: Jud and Phil are two smooth-talking '63 boys!
Comments: And she's so darned cute in her boots and spurs, with her riding crop!
Comments: Lynell you are the head wrangler, your ranch your rules!
Comments: Then there's Charlotte Church's daughter's Strange fainting spell and Charlotte the Spider, or Weird happenings...ha ha ha!! What is so funny about those comments by S T...as far as being on the Internet, it makes no dif whether we type our last name or not HERE...........we are all on there anyway, with pics of our houses, our incomes, what ever, HERE it helps us know who is posting. I say if you don't like the rule don't post here, but if you are going to post......give it up and follow the rule and shut up already..The subject is soooo tired and it changes nothing to keep dragging it on...Sheesh!.
Comments: Then there's Lynell Smith, the Brazilian evangelist, and Lynell Smith, co-star of Dolomite (a '70s movie about a pimp.)
Comments: All you need is a name like mine. Do a search and you come up with a lot of Barry Gibbs the hockey player and a lot of Barry Gibb of Bee Gees fame. I guess I'm buried down there on page 100+
Comments: Sam, I agree with you. Still, the whole name rule will apply to this guestbook as long as I am the wrangler of it. ![]()
Comments: Not on the internet if you just use your first name! I'm trying to think of any other job where you get fired, and they don't immediately shut down your email, or take your credit card, or take away your expense account, and escort you out of the building.............unless you're a member of Congress who loses your job in the November 2nd election (or a union member). The Democrats have a "lame duck" agenda of about 20 bills, which, if passed between November 15th and the Christmas recess, represent about $415B in new spending. Another $415B we don't have to spend. A bunch of those Dems, and some Repubs are losing their jobs, but they get to come back and spend money like there's no tomorrow........wait a minute, there isn't for them. Outrageous.
Comments: Thank you, Charlotte. Like it or not, Sam, I guess we're all out there on the Internet. I was amazed that along with the old editions of socbears.com, the photos are still there, too, if you're patient. The photo might not show up, but if you click the place holder, there it is! Incredible.
Comments: Wow, Lynell..............I went to that web site........How fun t.o see the ol' SOCbears.com site with your front page. Interesting that it is there............when is disappeared it was such a tragedy..........but now we can go back and read some of the stuff leading up the the 45th. Who knew? how do you find this stuff? Of course, going back we can also see the problems with the anons etc. I am so glad that you require us to sign in with both names. Welcome home Jud! Glad you had a great time.
Comments: Sam, if you Google yourself and you'll see some mentions of your name that have nothing to do with this website. I'm just saying. All SOCites and friends of SOC are welcome to post here, as long as they sign their whole names.
Comments: Lynell, you say that "what is put on the web never goes away". You're right, and that includes the fact that your requirement on this site for full names invites that they'll be on Google at some point. Just try it. They don't do that with first names only.
Comments: I heard of an interesting website on the radio. It's www.archive.org. In the area called Wayback Machine, type in the URL of a bygone website and say Abracadabra -- and there it is! I found the old Socbears.com website in its entirety. What is put on the Web never goes away!
Comments: Welcome home Charlotte and Bill!
Comments: Barry, you and JS should rent a large truck and head south. Think of the gold bars, cannon balls, diamond rings, etc. in that unscanned sand. JS, you should return Dolly Parton's underwire to her.
Comments: Lynell: That IS Dru's spoon! John just put it in the picture to show the relative size of his recent "find". I'm waiting for them to officially close Matagorda Island State Park. That island has a lot of history, dating back to LaSalle's landing on the Texas coast. During the Civil War, there was a Confederate fort there that was captured by the Yankees and then retaken by the Confederates. There were military bases there in both WWI and WWII. We tried to take a metal detector there about 5 years ago, but there were still Parks and Wildlife people on the island and they said "No!". There's no one there now, so I assume that you could take a metal detector there and no one would know. We'll probably need help carrying all the booty back to the mainland.
Comments: Please, Barry. He owes his first payment on the metal detector to the ShamWow guy, and he'll just about have it if he finds the rest of that silverware. Keep diggin'. |
