Comments: Thank you so much Gaylan.
Comments: What I love about SOC 63...I love this one thing more than anything else...Your classmates ALL come here to offer whatever they can for the good of ALL and no one...not one...tries to act as the Big Kahuna...the one with all the keys to the kingdom so to speak. You each speak for yourselves...it's not "we, many, others, all, most or everyone" as if anyone of you tries to speak for the group. You are enviable in that respect and it is so refreshing! Keep up the good work~!
Comments: I just wanted to let everyone know who is on the Soc 63 site that David Splawn called me on Friday and let me know that his wife, Renee, is in a coma and has had several epileptic seizures. I know he would appreciate any prayers and good wishes you could send his way. She has been in the hospital about 10 days I believe. His address is 1617 Tawakoni Lane, Plano, Texas 75075. His cell phone is 972-757-0590. Please keep David and his family in your prayers. He said that she has opened her eyes a few times in the last couple of days and that they have been able to take her off one of the blood pressure medicines so that is some progress. The problem is that they have her on 4 different anti-seizure medications and can't seem to get them under control. She does still have brain activity, however, she is still having seizures. Needless to say, he is very distraught and I know he would appreciate any cards, calls, etc from his SOC friends. He does not have an email but you can also leave a message at his home phone--972-578-2479
Comments: That's a good lookin' group at yesterday's luncheon. Who is responsible for scaring up Sharon Casey and Loyd Reynolds ('62)? I had to think a moment to place Loyd, then remembered he had a twin brother - Boyd.
Comments: I've posted the pictures I took at yesterday's luncheon on the Images page. Just click the top button. Lonnies pictures are also posted, mostly after mine. I see I got James Anthony's ponytail pic in with the first part -- I'm computer challenged today! Many thanks to Lonnie Harmon for sending his pictures to me, and for supplying names! Phil, the heat has gotten to you, dear heart. I said Jake's on Skillman! Obviously it has been too long since you've had an order of Jumpin' Jake fries!
Comments: I must respectfully disagree with Lynell, 'Jakes 'original location is on Skillman.
Comments: Charlotte, I just changed my FB profile. I'm now a 105 y.o. male with absolutely no interests Can't wait to see the spam this brings on. Offshore brides, investment opportunities??? Facebook is a little creepy. It was great to see everyone at the luncheon today. I'd guess there were 35 present, including the ever-beautiful Brenda Kemp. She is precious, and the two of us enjoyed some laughs about Barney, who was the funniest guy who ever was. Good for you, Brenda, for braving all those toll booths to get to Addison. I took a bunch of pictures and will upload them when I get through painting some stuff in my home office. BTW, Cynthia looks fab. She is so svelte. So are many others. It was good to see everyone. Lonnie, I was rockin' all the way home!
Comments: Wow, JS. That does look good. No pix, but my burger of choice at Dutch's is the Bacon, Bleu Cheese with either their hand-cut fries or the huge onion rings (hard choice). There is a place in Dallas that's touted as the best - The Twisted Root, but I've never eaten there. Any of you Dallas folks been there?
Comments: In our neck o' the woods, Beck's Prime makes a tasty (albeit expensive)hamburger, and they have the BEST fries in town. But for a good 'ol fashioned, reasonably priced burger you can't beat Mel's Country Diner on the western border of The Woodlands and Tomball (see pic below): ![]()
Comments: Just read this: Skull Security offers up 100 million FB profiles to anybody. My fave hamburger right now is from my country club in Houston...old fashioned and seasoned perfectly with buns toasted on the grill. Oh, the fries are Terrific to! Don't usually get hamburgers out at restaurants so that is about it......except for making my own.
Comments: Drat it! I failed to mention the Smith Manor Burger -- two seasoned sirloin patties with bleu cheese centers. Yum! Finish with a slice of ripe tomato and mayo on nice buns.
Comments: First on the list is Chez Caldwell. After that, hands down it's 5 Guys!
Comments: Jake's on Skillman, the original (former Exxon station) restaurant serves up a fine double cheeseburger with a side of Jumpin" Jake fries and a Coke with an order of Bottle Caps (deep fried battered jalapeno slices) for the table! Now there's a meal to please any cardiologist.
Comments: OK Jud, let's try this. Donna and I went to our favorite burger joint last night, Dutch's in Ft Worth. It's across the street from TCU (and was named after one of their better football coaches, Dutch Meyer). We think it's the best burger place in these parts. FW also has Fred's Cafe which also does great burgers and gets mentioned every time there is a "Best of DFW poll". I'm sure everyone has a fav. spot. What's yours?
Comments: My Cinnamon is getting stronger every day. Thank God for antibotics. Her appetitte is getting better and she is fusing at me again when it is time to feed her. I wish I had two more weeks before I leave for vacation for her to get stronger. Thanks for all concern. Hope to see some of you at the luncheon. We have about 35. I will be mailing our 65th birthday celebration letter out Monday. Jana and Milo Milham and Sharon Reeves are going to help me after the luncheon. Put October 9th on your calendars.
Comments: Surely someone has something exciting to discuss. JS, doesn't the Witness Protection Program allow you access to a computer?
Comments: Brenda, I know that Barney and Leroy were a great team. When did he live in San Diego? David and I lived there in early 1970, in Chula Vista. We paid $125 a month for a brand-new, furnished apartment. That was a lot of money! I'm glad Barney didn't get a chance to arrest me for calling him Birnie in grade school.
Comments: Barney's shepard's name was Leroy...real original huh??? He was a canine officer for San Diego Sheriff's office and when he quit he was allowed to take Leroy with him since they were trained to work together. He told me Leroy was great with the his kids and thought he was just another kid in the family. I have always been afraid of big dogs myself...foo foo dogs are just right for me!!
Comments: I think all you pet lovers that rescued pets are being watched over by Saint Francis (I think that's the one for animals). Bless you. The only ones I ever owned were rescued pets. Will miss seeing you at the luncheon Saturday but looking forward to 65th BD Party in October.
Comments: Brenda, I knew someone whose German shepherd was named Sir. Isn't that a great name? "Your breakfast, Sir." Charloote, Roxie is 76% Schnauzer, 24% lucky. I hope Cinnamon is feeling better today, Peaches.
Comments: Hi Brenda, I am thinking my little schnauzer mix is part shi zu...(however you spell it)...........they are such sweeties and my little Roxanne has the coloring and is sooooooo sweet. I sent off Roxanne's DNA and the results were ....76% schnauzer...DUH!! and the other 24% undetermined........sigh! I reeeeelly wanted to know the OTHER 24%. However, now, Roxanne is a Registered PET.....ahem.......haaaaaa! Barney was a lucky man to be surrounded by such love! I know those furry babies comfort you now. Peaches, I am thinking of you...it seems my animals get sick just before I am to take a trip too. sigh! Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Cinnamon.
Comments: Peaches I am so sorry to hear about your cat being sick...I know how important your cats are to you...I have enjoy reading all the pet stories...even your squirrel story Barry!! I have two shit-zus...about 5 years old. Barney always used to say if anyone had ever told him he would have two little foo-foo dogs and actually love them he would say they were crazy but he did love them and they are a great comfort to me now. He was always a German Shepard man till we married.
Comments: Phyllis, thanks so much for letting us know about Mr. Manton's sister. He always comes to our Reunions and is such a delight!
Comments: p.s. Having a little trouble seeing this screen today.
Comments: Peaches, I put Cinnamon in my prayer journal...really. I'm thankful for the prayers for my Schnauzer, Colt, who is doing much better now that he's on meds for the seizures. Lynell, nitwits are some of my favorite people. "Birds of a feather..."
Comments: Charloote, my mini Schnauzer (Kramer, aptly named after the Seinfeld character) is almost 14. He's blind and deaf, has mobility issues. I'm having to pick him up and carry him outside. But he still has a good appetite and loves it when the other 3 dogs and 4 cats try to get him to play. So, as long as he's not in pain, we'll continue to pamper him.
Comments: Lynell, who is charloote? These BlackBerries are prone to typos because of fat thumbs.
Comments: Tom Manton's sister, Betsy Beesley, died Saturday, at the age of 90. Her memorial service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., tomorrow, Thursday, July 29th at the Chapel at Grace Presbyterian Village on Ann Arbor in South Oak Cliff. Betsy was a wonderful person, highly active and well-known throughout Dallas. She and Tom both were stalwarts at our church, Trinity Presbyterian, which closed a couple a years ago after being a presence in North Oak Cliff for over 100 years; it is now Emmanuel Presbyterian -- a Spanish-speaking congregation -- at 901 N Zang. Betsy and Tom's Father -- Jasper Manton -- was one of Trinity Presbyterian's first pastors, so they were "preacher's kids," in the best sense of that term. Betsy was a member of the League of Women Voters for seems like 50 years or so. She also ran for DISD School Board in the late 60's on the League for Educational Advancement (LEAD) slate, a progressive, reform, group. The powers-that-be played hardball and threatened Tom's job, on the grounds that Betsy's candidacy -- if successful -- would create a nepotism situation. I'm sure Tom would appreciate the support of anyone able to attend Betsy's service.
Comments: Betty, what about us nitwits? Peaches, I'm so sorry Cinnamon isn't well. I hope she has a speedy recovery. It's so hard to be gone when they are home sick. And I agree; I don't know how people do this with children.
Comments: My little schnauser mix rescue is only about 1 1/2 years old and so healthy now. When I rescued her she had a tape worm and ear mites. She is so happy to be a part of our family and is extra sweet to our 15 year old Westie who is very fragile now. I understand the anxiety about the illness of our furry babies. And Jud, I too think about reincarnation....however, I would probably come back as something like a camel, alligator or ba boon. Snake comes to mind too. Haaaaa! |
