Bill and I discovered a great Italian Restaurant last week in Austin. It is called Austi and it is close to Duval and 34th Street. For some reason it says Osti on the entry. They make everything from scratch.

John, you are a good husband.  And you are a good human being for not using that handicapped parking tag for the sake of convenience.

Today I made TWO trips to the tax assessor's office and the pharmacy on Dru's behalf.

In order to get one of those blue handicap placards for your car, you have to have a prescription from your doctor and a completed application form. I took these to the county office today and received the placard to hang from Dru's car mirror.

Then I went to the pharmacy to turn in her prescription for pain killers for her knee problem. The pharmacist looked it over and said "what am I looking at here?". I replied "that's an rx for darvocet pain killers". He said "No it's not. It's a doctor's rx for a handicap placard".

I'd turned in the wrong prescription back at the county office. Back in the car and back to the tax assessor office and another thirty minute wait in line to straighten this out and retrieve her pain killer prescription. Then another trip back to the pharmacy. I was tempted to park in the handicap spot, but successfully fought off the urge.

Did I mention I got new glasses last week?

Yep.  Fastening your seatbelt in the back seat is now mandatory unless you want to chance a ticket.  You don't want to be Princess Diana, do you?  She'd probably be around today if she had had a seatbelt on.  I learned little trick in the Sixties when I worked for orthopedic surgeons.  We had a patient who was the sole survivor of a wreck where everybody got killled except our patient.  She had a broken clavicle.  I'd rather have that, painful as it is, than be dead.  If anyone doesn't want to fasten their seatbelt, that is their decision.

John, While we asking questions, what connection does BP have to American Oil Companies? Is British Petroleum primarily a company from the United Kingdom? Bill, the realtors always put small flags out in our neighborhood. So all the houses have them. All of you have a nice Memorial DAy weekend!

My flag gets put out every morning, Bill, unless there's impending rain.  And it always get a salute from me.  Fly it proudly, Bill and have a great Memorial Day weekend, from a real conservative.

I know it's only Friday of Memorial Day Weekend, but it's kinda sad that I'm the only house on my street flying the flag. So, I figured it was just the weirdos around me, but I drove four more streets in the neighborhood and only found six more flags flying.

I thought seatbelt laws applied to everyone.. Course some Texan might try to re-write the law to exclude people wearing guns...! In fact I could see some Tennesseans trying that.. We had  this big fight over wearing guns into Bars and Restaurants..! Now that would get something started for sure.. There was a fight in Cordova(Suburb) outside a Panera Bread Restaurant.. One guy parked too close to another guys' car, the other guy shoved the guy and/or his wife, then that guy pulled out his gun and shot the other guy....dead..  You'd think we were in Texas.. That's a middle class neighborhood..too.
Those people probably consider themselves 'CONSERVATIVE', Sam...!  One father/grandfather dead, the other in prison.. Both of them were driving...SUV's...

Life is never boring...  Art Linkletter would say that for sure.. He was 97..

John, Haven't you heard of HB 537 passed in August 2009 where all passengers in vehicles are requited to wear seat belts in the state of Texas?

Has anybody heard of a new Texas driving law that requires adult passengers in the back seat to wear seatbelts or face a $250 fine?

My scofflaw brother-in-law mentioned this to me. He's gotten 3 tickets in Conroe for failure to wear a seat belt as a driver.

Kathleen, I don't disagree on the 'being active', I just didn't add it...
I think he's (Barry) turning out to be more conservative..but I say 'wait and watch'.
The 'boys in the back room/ Democrat or Republican', are still back there and we don't know what they're thinking/dreaming up... I think Barry has to deal with all that..too.
They may be using him as a 'front man', we don't know.. They certainly used George as that...!  Worked in Phil Bredeson's campaign for Mayor of Nashville.. I have nothing against him.. He's going out...as governor..now.. One of my DAR friends that is a long time Memphian calls Phil, 'A Carpetbagger' because he came in from Ohio and made a lot of money in Nashville in the Hospital Corp. of America.. I think he's actually a nice man, has done no harm and has actually done some good..!
I still say..wait and watch.. March if you want to...I'm not ready...to...March..!

Ginger, I liked your post this morning. I disagree with you in that I think citizens need to be active in a Democracy. At the very least, they need to vote. I also wanted to point out that Obama was the most conservative of the Democratic candidates. He is probably to the right of center. He has continued a lot of the Bush policies especially with regard to Wall Street and the banks. Although the jury is sill out on his Presidency, he is turning out NOT to be the reform President some Americans hoped he would be.

It may be that Barack, (Barry Soetoro).. needs some time off... The pressure never lets up...up there in DC.. The Bush People were always getting out of town...There may be
some security risk, that we don't know about...
My personal feelings about this whole 'Barry' thing and how he came to be our president...is that  'the boys in the back room...'(Democrat, this time), pushed his name to the top because he was their 'best bet' to get someone back in the White House... I didn't like the way they did it...I'm putting the most blame on Howard Dean, but all those 'boys' are to blame...I didn't vote for him... I don't like what Howard and the Boys did to Hilary...Now they may have planned to put her in as Secretary of State, all along..but they didn't tell me..
Now I'm for sitting back and watching this whole thing... to see what happens.. Everybody still has their guns..(the right to bear arms), so if the boys and some women think that the country is being turned over to Socialists and Communists, I guess you can all 'march to Washington'..
I for one, won't be marching with you... I still say, sit back and watch...Complain when you have to, but this country...needs a lot of reform in every era.. and it should evolve into  Equal Opportunity for All...including Women... We're not there yet..

Be Patient and Wait...Gather Information, talk to a lot of people with different opinions, Read, Think, Meditate, Pray.....and Complain if you want to...but remember this nation still needs a lot of work...!
(Okay, I'm now waiting for Sam and his 'Soapbox'....)     Ginger

Thank you to all our armed forces living or gone.  l promise I will remember you and them far beyond a three day weekend.

Boy...I'm staying out of both of these subjects...You guys...just go at it...
Lynell, I am so proud to know that you are not a fan of Rush.. I still say there must be an island somewhere for him... I'm trying to divorce myself from T-Mobile.. I have lots of letters to write and to re-submit one I wrote a year and a half ago.. I hate to deal with any corporation on the telephone. It's easier to deal with the Medicare people than these corporations..I had a doctor's office tell me last week, if I get someone at Medicare that doesn't know anything, just hang up and call back.. The same way with corporations but I think the chance of getting someone that knows what they are talking about is better....with Medicare..
It's a quite night and I want it to stay that way...Everyone is praying for Louisiana, the coast, the animals, the people, the oil spill...
Everyone needs to be legal, green card or citizenship...They need to work all this stuff out..
Our country has spent years getting us in to this mess.. I hope with time, things will improve and evolve into a country that is good for all of us..
Namaste...have a good evening..... Ginger

Lynell, to the vast majority of Americans, myself included, communism and socialism are still considered horrible, and are not what patriotic Americans want for this country.

Praise be to all American men and women -- or more likely boys and girls -- who loyally served in the Military, whether they wanted to or not, and a pox on the draft dodgers and the Stolen Valor crowd.

He didn't want to, but my husband valiantly served in the USN in Vietnam the entire time we were engaged to be married.  Without him and his ilk (many SOC boys and our predecessors) we'd all be speaking a language other than American English now.

I remember when Communism and Socialism were considered horrible.  That's how old I am.  I remember civics class at SOC.  I think Mrs. Rae Files Still would have hated what's going on in Washington.  I may be wrong, but I believe she, at one time, was in the Texas legislature and she may have been a Democrat.  She used a walker and mentioned a broken hip.  Most people in that era died from broken hips.  Mrs. Still was one tough cookie.

Sad, isn't it?  Not about my being old, but because "kids today" probably don't learn about the scariness of "isms."

If anyone thinks I am a hard-nosed Right-Winger, they are mistaken.  I think Rush Limbaugh is an opportunistic bad disk jokey who got a good gig, I don't care who marries whom, and abortions are a personal decision.  People will have at some point an opportunity to 'splain all this to the Good Lord.  See, I've even included my religious dialog in this rant.
