Comments: Thanks, John, for the links to Ike's and Jack's obituaries. I considered both of these guys to be friends. To add a historical footnote: After high school, Jack introduced Mr Ken Haas to one of his girlfriend's (Candy Florence) friends, Miss Beverly Duvall. The rest is history.

Comments: Barbara Florence posted on facebook today........ Sad news this morning, Jack Cowley passed away in his sleep peacefully Sunday, January 24, 2021. Jack graduated in 1963 and is survived by six daughters. There are many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by his family and friends. At this time, plans for a memorial service are pending. I am so deeply saddened to hear of Jack's passing. I really enjoyed some long conversations with him a few years ago. He will be missed.
Comments: Gosh, I need to check in more often. I am saddened to learn of the recent deaths of our three classmates. I remember how funny Ikey was. Your story , Ken, is hilarious. What good memories we have growing up at the best time ever. Mike, thank you for the video. It’ caused a lump in my throat too. We are very fortunate generation to have lived in such a simple era. My husband and I will have our second vaccine February 3. And as Bill. said , it will be a huge relief and a sort of release. My eye doc said today that there is small evidence of herd immunity now. I pray he is correct. I hope all reading this is safe and well❣️

Comments: I don’t know any of the particulars, but I learned today that another beloved classmate, Jack Cowley, has passed away. What a sad year this is.
Comments: Once upon a time, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I was the pitcher in a Zumwalt Jr High baseball game, Ike was the catcher. With a full count on the batter, my catcher gave me the sign (one finger) for a fastball. Except on this particular occasion Ike decided that instead of the normal pointer finger signal he would use his middle finger. Result? I was laughing so hard I threw a wild pitch and walked the batter. Folks, that was 62 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. Charles Ike Walker was a great guy with an great laugh. God Bless him and his family.
Comments: It is with great sadness that I am letting our class know, Ike Walker passed away on January 19, 2021. He died of COVID pneumonia. His wife died 1 year, 4 months ago. Donna, Keith Fitzpartrick's wife called me Sunday to let me know. Ike started feeling bad January 8th and thought he had a sinus infection. His daughter had to take him to the hospital the next Tuesday as his became much sicker. The Fitzpatricks and Walkers had been friends for many years and double dated before they even got married. We will miss our Ikey!!!!!
Comments: I knew Lana Sisemore and she was from our class. Her brother, Victor and my husband, Bill Walker were from the class of 60 and ran around together.

Comments: Donna and I have both had the first Covid shot (3 weeks ago) and hopefully will get the second in a week. Two weeks after that will be FREEDOM DAY for us, as we should be at max efficacy. I can't wait to get back to eating out, but what I really look forward to is resuming out travels around the good old US of A.

Comments: Thank you, John. It’s a sad task to add another name to our memorial page. I hope Lana had a good time at SOC. It must have been difficult for a kid who grew up in another city (Sherman) and came to our neighborhood as a teen. 2020 was a doozie.
Comments: Regarding Lana Sisemore (Baccus), she had a brother about 3 years ahead of us at SOC and a younger sister Barbara 2 years behind us at SOC. Vic died in 2007 and his obituary confirms that he graduated from South Oak Cliff High School. Also it makes reference to his sister Lana Baccus and sister Barbara. So that is definitely OUR Lana Sisemore who passed away on 12/23/20.

Comments: Wishing all a Happy New Year. At midnight I will fire two 12ga rounds into the backside of 2020. Ok, it just a thought because truth be known I will be asleep at midnight. Someone ask where Clyde Aicklen is. Last I heard he lives in Maryland. Sorry to hear about all of you or your loved ones dealing with cancer. My dance with it was in 2018 and now my wife is finishing chemo, Jan 4th last treatment, to be followed with 4 weeks, 5 days a week radiation treatment. I read someplace that when you are in your 20's up until 50 you think you are invincible and then at some time in your 50's, maybe 60's, the check engine light comes on. Not to far from the truth. Hoping 2021 highway of life has no speed bumps!

For the first time, I was absolutely alone, didn't put up a tree or any decorations, and it didn't bother me a bit. I haven't turned into a Grinch, just entirely too much going on. I hope that the new year will be better for everyone.

Comments: Yumpin' Yiminy, it's Christmas already! No snow in The Woodlands (per usual). Dru and I will be spending the day with her son Ken and grandson Reid. Hope all of you are settling in for a fine day with family or friends. I received two phone calls this week from old classmates Charlie Howarth and Barry Gibbs. Charlie moved from Colorado to New Braunfels, TX two years ago. He and Pat recently built a new home and are slowly getting situated. Their two grand children live about 13 miles away. We talked of the old days and laughed about me not making the Zumwalt basketball team. (well, HE laughed.) Barry and wife Joan are still in South Lake with their two Yorkies ("Raider" and I forget the other mutt's name). Barry has had a rough year healthwise. He told me that last Friday he began a series of "chemo" treatments. He is being treated for something called Waldenstrom Lymphoma. Barry was upbeat about it all and hoping for a good outcome by Spring. Dru and I are rocking along. She has recovered well from last year's colon cancer ordeal and is back to painting and redecorating our home. I'm still chasing "treasure" with my metal detector and feeling pretty good, all things considered. That's about it. Merry Christmas to all my SOC (Zumwalt & Russell) buddies!
Comments: Hi everybody! It has been quite a few years since I posted here, but something was mentioned on our church zoom session this morning that made me think of all of you. Donna and I are doing well and still living in Arlington. We have managed to survive the pandamnic by staying mostly under house arrest since March. Have a Merry Christmas folks and a very Happy 2021! Happiness will be 2020 in our rear view mirrors.
Comments: Thanks, Glen, for reminding me of Clyde and his hard contacts. They were forever popping out and flying across the room. Clyde was some kind of savant. He could spot one at 15 paces, lick it and slap it back in his eye. Kids were tougher then! |
