Comments: Warriors Weekend was a huge success. Nearly 300 wounded troops came to Port O'Connor for a weekend of fishing and eating. My friend and I took two really nice guys out for the day. One had been in a HumVee that was blown up by a roadside bomb in Afganastan. 6 of the 8 aboard were killed. Ironically, one of the fatalities was from Port O'Connor and he got to meet the soldier's parents. The other soldier was a 22 year veteran that had served in Desert Storm and Iraq. The chemicals from Desert Storm destroyed his liver and he has 20 some odd pins and screws in his right leg. He started having seizures when in Iraq. They were two of the most polite and upbeat people I have been around in a long time. How they stay that way after all they've been through is a mystery to me. And, they both wish that they could go back. They were both from the Wounded Warriors Battalion at Fort Campbell Kentucky.
Comments: Some of you may remember Skip Benson from the '64 class. His father passed away over the weekend. Funeral will be Wednesday at Laurel Land. Info is on their site. Please keep him in your prayers. Thanks.
Comments: Well, they are not reciting Bible Verses and Poetry to keep sane..or maybe they are. I forgot what McCain said he did to keep sane in the POW camp.. I heard about those kids.. Is there any hope that they will actually get out...?
Comments: John, From what I saw of the story on GMA, this couple has been a couple for many years. Both of the mothers were on and said they hoped this would also help to bring their families closer together as friends during this trying time. It was a rather sweet story. They are trying to get the marriage ceremony approved while in prison also.
Comments: You are too much John! haaaaaaaaaaa Two of the 3 (2 guys and 1 gal)American hikers are engaged!! The guy wove a ring from his shirt material to give to her when he asked her to marry him. The other guy will be their best man. The gal is in isolation, but the guys are together. I saw their mothers this morning on TV.............their imprisonment is such an awful travesty.
Comments: This morning I read a headline which says "Jailed U.S. hikers get engaged in Iranian prison". I don't have time to read the whole story but think it is swell that these American young folks found some "marriage material" in a foreign prison. I wonder how they overcame the language barrier? What are the odds?
Comments: MIss Marple is coming on... It's "The Mirror Cracked" which I have read and seen several times..through more than one Miss Marple... Time for Agatha....! 
Comments: They have their 'ways', Char- Char to get our info... I didn't share anything..but most of us are on FB..I took my BD off and my address was never on there, but you can go to Spokeo and get my PO Box and Cell #.. My physical address is not on there.. I receive most of my mail at my PO, except High Speed Internet sends it to the physical.. Now those people are 'evil' I know...I want a cheaper way to have internet w/o having to deal with the 'evil' cable people...

Comments: As some may recall, Brooks Barr passed away in January of this year. Yesterday I ran across an internet tribute page in his memory. If this is old news, please forgive me - I had not seen it before. There is a link on the site titled "View Life Images" which presents a neat little slide show covering Brooks' life. http://www.tributes.com/show/Brooks-Barr-87716810 Brooks has a grown son from his first marriage to Beverly Blankenship in our class. Those of you who went to Clinton P. Russell might remember her from Nimitz Dr. in our old neighborhood.

Comments: One of you (whose name eludes me) recently posted a comment on Facebook about dropping a cell phone in the Llano River. The water rendered it inoperable. You went on to say that the phone was then packed in rice overnight and the next day was functional again. My question is this: How long should I cook the rice?

Comments: I'm sure our President will want to use all three names as part of his legacy. In the future when all those cities name major streets after him, BHO Blvd will sound much better than BO Blvd.
Comments: A Democrat member of the Texas Board of Education, objected in the textbook hearing this past week, when Obama's name was introduced into a textbook as Barack Hussein Obama. She was successful at getting his middle name removed. That's such brilliant logic that I think we should change all references to MLK, and make them Martin King. Could have just called him Barry Soetoro and the Hussein deal wouldn't have been a big deal. He'll know better next time he changes his name.

Comments: I recall the depositions I took of non-English speakers. Sometimes opposing counsel would ask for ID. This is normal in a deposition, by the way. It is not profiling. Many times the witness presented a gold-plated metal Social Security card. If anyone asks me for ID, I cough up my driver's license that has a, albeit goofy looking, picture of ME on it. Now I don't know about you, but I had to present all manner of stuff to get my SS card at age 16. It turned out to be some cheesy little cardboard thing with my name in typewriting on it. I complicated things by getting married, so I had to show them my marriage license to get a new card. Still a cheesy little thin cardboard thing. I want to know how to get a gold-plated card.
