Yeah, boy, Phil.  I was in line a long time today because trendy Bill-like individuals smirkingly checked out with their fancy Ipads.  However, nobody cut in line.  I take it that Ipad owners are couther overall than Stein-Mart shoppers.  Uh...is couther a word?

My mother found such interesting chocolate candies for my sister and I at Christmas..She would fill our stockings with these, plus fruit and nuts..a lot of those fancy candies came from Andie's Candies...back in the old days... G...

Just want to wish all of you a Happy Easter! I have been looking for a nice Easter basket for my granddaughter today. I am having a hard time finding a good one. My parents always bought us such nice ones. I wish I could find one like we used to get.
Linda, I am glad to see you posting. You should do it more often.

Wow, there must have been something in the air yesterday.  I went to get the Honey Baked Ham for my family's get together and it wasn't that bad at the store, but 3 different cars almost backed into me before I got out of the parking lot!

Lynell, your story if so funny.  I happen to go shopping today as well.  I was running a little late to get to the Good Friday night services and had one item.   Looking at the lines, I evaluated the situation thinking I may have picked the best line as the several folks in front of me had little in their hands.  Then another line had a problem and all of a sudden this lady in the other line hands someone in my line a bunch of stuff.  As that line was told to move over to another newly created line, lo and behold but all of a sudden there are 2 more people in my line because they were all together!  I made it 3 minutes late to church but I got there safe and sound without having a fit in the process and thoroughly enjoying the Good Friday service. - Note to self - no shopping tomorrow in the shopping frenzy.

Blessed Easter to all.

Cynthia

I was a party to a cosmic comeuppance today, after being in a long checkout line at Stein Mart.  I had almost made my way up to the register.

The person ahead of me was very complicated, so a new checker arrived on the scene and announced that she would take the next person in line, who would be me.  I headed her direction.  A woman with a lot of stuff in her arms came out of nowhere and almost knocked me down to get in line ahead of me.  Her merchandise took 7 minutes to check out.  I didn't say a word, but I admit to glaring at her.

As I eventually left the store, I saw that she had backed squarely into a passing car.  I gave my name and phone number to the driver of the smashed car.  heh heh.

You always have to have the last word!  I didn't even think about a banana-maybe in the morning.
I did find a vet close to the house that is a rehabilatator (sp?)  He said he could fix her leg, but he would have to keep her for 4-5 days.  Since she has babies, they would probably die.  He said to watch her and if she does not get any worse, just let her heal on her own.  If she gets worse, bring her in and try to find the babies and take care of them.  I have not been able to follow her to the nest, but maybe with her moving more slowly, I can find them.  Last Spring, she had a litter in a live oak in our front yard, but she has abandoned that nest.  All this over a squirrel that constantly chews on our deck.  I would say it was old age, but I have always been a softy for injured animals.

Oh, my.......I know squirrel rescuers and vets down here in Houston but not up there.  Have you tried Googling that for Dallas area?  I hope she is OK.......so sad.  I have had a mother squirrel at the ranch who was friendly and unafraid even with my dogs around......she finally disappeared.  I was told that about 9 years is their life expectancy.  I hope you find help.

BTW, I had a banana on my cereal for my breakfast.

Charlotte, I did have cereal for breakfast this morning, but I have a more pressing issue-a squirrel!  For the last year and a half, we have had a female squirrel at our house that will come sit in our laps and eat out of our hands.  We have fed her through 2 litters of offspring and we get concerned when she doesn't show up for a day or two.  Yesterday evening, she showed up for her daily squirrel moment with Joan.  Joan comes running in the house screaming that "Buddy" was hurt.  It appears that she has an injured left rear leg.  With the gale force winds yesterday, it is possible that she fell from a tree when jumping.  She currently has a litter and we watched her as she fought her way back to the nest.  Does anyone know of a vet that treats squirrels?  I know, it's just a squirrel, but with our allergies, we don't have dogs or cats and Buddy has become part of our extended family.  Of course, my first job, and a huge one at that, would be getting her to a vet. HELP!

It's a Pavlovian thing, but however you're trained is fine.  Actually, all those sweet, lovely characters on SOC '62 originally came on with their full names.  If they didn't, they were challenged by the "police" as to who they were, so identity could be established and passed on to headquarters!  The anons, while displaying great creativity in naming themselves, are none-the-less deleted, as they should be........and if identified are sent to the SOC '64 site to remain forever as punishment.  Cousin Johnny sends his love, says every Friday is good for him and asks that the 500 word limit on this full name site be lengthened so he can post all of what he's been wanting to say these past few weeks.  He thanks Dru for sending him to "camp" and feels it has refreshed his outlook, and sharpened his wit.

First and Last Names are important... Sam   Also, if you are required to put first and last names, you will 'behave' a lot better.. When you are not 'required' to put first and last names, it gives people 'permission' to be more  'ugly, tacky, rude'...Total identity seems to curb the negative behavior to a certain extent.. There's also a certain amount of  'fear' involved, in people not wanting to put both first and last names..

April 5....maybe JS will return..?  (Be very afraid....) well, not really.. Happy Easter, Passover...Whatever you are celebrating...

Sam, my reply to Charlene wasn't a left or right reply at least not consciously. You and Charlene make good points about facebook. Although facebook puts it out there more for the average person, I was just saying that we no longer have privacy in this country. The problem with your class only using their first names is that some of us don't have a clue as to who is commenting.

Charlotte, I choose not to be a Facebooker for several reasons.  I don't really care what somebody has for breakfast, I don't need daily reminders of happy hour, and I'm always concerned about security.  It is a social network where you voluntarily give up info, in order to "belong".  I challenge Kathleen who says you should be more worried about big corporations than the government.  They want to sell you something.  The government, particularly the current administration, wants to control your life.  Her answer was that from the left.  I personally will not give anyone, particularly the government, more info than they need.  See, that's why we just use last names on SOC '62.  Gee, what did I just do.  I put my last name on here, for "internet security" reasons!!!  Huh!

I know that we are all vulnerable to invasion of privacy issues, but I do not want to HELP that invasion by being on a social network that is about to share my info...

Face Book announced:
"...your and your friends' names, profile pictures, gender, connections, and any content shared using the Everyone privacy setting. We may also make information about the location of your computer or access device and your age available to applications and websites..."

Charlotte, It isn't just facebook that should cause privacy concerns. There isn't anything about you that I couldn't find out if I decided to look you up. Your medical records are also not that private and hundreds of people have access to them. Baylor Hospital (as I am sure most large Hospitals have) a central computer which is shared between doctors. It is easy to monitor your cell phone conversations. You house can be "bugged" through your telephone, computer or your cable. The list goes on as to how personal information is obtained about you. People seem to be concerned about what the government knows, but corporations are even more of a problem. There really isn't any privacy anymore unless you live as a hermit like the Uni-bomber.

Because of new privacy concerns I read about recently, I have logged off Face Book again .  I guess I will just hope that my contacts will email me personally.  The Net is a scary place and I don't want to make it scarier by inviting problems from a social network.  I really don't care what people are having for dinner or need to know how they feel or read their prophesying anyway....I have enjoyed finding some people, but I am not sure that outweighs inviting trouble.

Today ANOTHER census form came in the mail, with a letter stating that I'd better fill it out if I haven't already or they will start calling me.  Let's see, that makes one letter saying a form was coming, two forms with return envelopes, and a phone call or two -- and I can't wait to see what else.  I cannot imagine running a business like this.

I also received in the mail someone else's mammogram report.  Egad!

Kathleen - you will have to share some photos on FB of your granddaughter - kinda like Bill and John - so we can see her.  She sounds beautiful.  Have not met a grandparent yet that did not have the most beautiful and intelligent grandchild around.  I always heard the best part was that you can spoil em and send them home again without guilt!  Funny thought but a nightmare and payback to the parents that gave you a hard time when they were growing up.

Happy and Blessed Easter to all.
