Charlotte's husband Terry placed third in the cutting horse competition this morning at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. 3d out of 80 and in the money! He should have had second but for some biased judging. There is politics in everything!

There was plenty of action in the Republican voting line today, but not much on the Democrat side of the room.  I guess Farouk must be a shoe-in

The Washington Post says Perry and Hutchinson are going to 'face off'. It sounds like Bill White is the most 'sane choice' for governor.. I believe Perry should be banished to some island with his mistress..!  Of course, I'm an independent, so I'm looking from outside this 'Texas' box...
Have you-all been keeping up with Harold Ford Jr...and his New York...tryst?? That's a hoot..! I actually thought...maybe..Harold Jr. was one of the more 'sane' members of the Ford family of Tenn.. Google 'Ophelia' and there's more than one Harold and a John or two..!
You 'guys' have your own unusual 'candidates' but I don't think they quite equal Tennessee's... Forbes magazine is calling Memphis...the 2nd most miserable city..It's pretty bad, but 'joy' can be found within the city limits in 'varying ' degrees..
Happy Tuesday...Voting...whatever..!

Wow....Barry..what large Letters you have...!  So....Kinky is running for Secretary of Agriculture. I think Kinky is a lot more impressive than our Prince Mongo..who glues plastic lawn chairs on his roof  to really tick off the neighbors.. Of course we had King Willie for 16 yrs.. There some 'crazies' out there... You guys watch out!!

First pick a font and size.  The go to the little symbol to the right of size and pick a color. The symbol to the right of color is for background.

I also have not been able to figure out the codes for this website. I press what I think should pull up color or type, but nothing happens. Maybe, someone can tell me how to make the print bigger and get color.

]After voting early last week, Kinky Friedman and Hank Gilbert are running for the Secretary of Agriculture. Foreauk Shami and Bill White are the Democractic nominees for governor. Bill White is the Mayor of Houston. I understand he is well-liked in Houston and San Antonio. He probably has a slight chance to beat Perry. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have some serious conserns about the electronic voting machine I had to use. I would rather just manually mark a ballot that can be counted in case there is some discrepancy.

FYI, Peaches' mother, Lorraine, fell and broke a rib yesterday.  She is at home mending.  I'm thinking of you Lorraine, my sweet Girl Scout Leader and praying for a speedy and pain free recovery.

You guys can really spin some funny 'yarns' on John.. And he's doing Lent and can't come back with a funny 'retort'..I guess I spelled that right?

Free electricity AND free Sham Wows for life.  I don't really see the need for the hair care products.

I got an e-mail from John S last week.  He is spending his time as campaign manager for Farouk Shami in the gubernatorial race.  He confident that there will be a run-ff, so he will likely be out of touch until the run-offs are over.  He has already been promised free electricity for the rest of his life.  He is pretty excited to be playing such a pivotal role in Texas politics. Watch for the smiley faces on the campaign.

Yes, Kathleen...I now know what Maundy Thursday is...It represents the sorrow and sadness in Jesus dying on the cross.. That's why our service ends in darkness and we sing very somber songs. Very beautiful with orchestra but very somber..I had to direct a choir for 2 1/2 yrs in a Methodist Church and we did the same thing...but on a smaller scale than Christ Methodist.
We sang an arrangement of Amazing Grace today..We 'high' sopranos...had a B to sing..I can reach it most of the time..even though I'm an old lady... If any of you choir people have ever sang any of Hal Hopson's music or arrangements, he's a cousin of mine..My mother is his first cousin.. She is Dorothy Virginia Hopson Hearn...

Ginger, Maundy Thursday is the day that commemorates the Last Supper. It is the Thursday before Good Friday. It is also known as Holy Thursday. I am also a Baptist, but I asked my husband Bill who once was a student in a Catholic seminary.

I heard from John...I haven't given up anything for Lent...I'm just living in SIN...!I've been Methodist for 6 yrs...but really haven't gotten into the giving up for Lent..'stuff'.
Unless I want to count 'giving up a real salary' for ....Lent.. I sing Lent Songs with the Chancel Choir...That should count for something..I even sing with them on Maundy Thursday...Never heard of that one when I was Baptist..I probably spelled it wrong but it only comes once a year..so I'm not going to worry about it..
(Maundy Thursday- the service is         very sorrowful and ends in darkness...very effective. We usually have a string orchestra accompanying us..)

I just completed reading the new guestbook, all 20 pages !!!  I have not "lurked" for a while due to being very busy.

When the snow was predicted for Feb 11th, I asked for a vacation day.  I have had 2 cars totaled in the past 7 years (not my fault), so I avoid any bad driving conditions.   At noon on the 11th our power went out & it was out 50 hours.  I took off the 12th also. We put 2 huge pots of water on our gas kitchen stove & lit the burners w/a match.  We have triple pane windows & extra insulation.  The boiling water on the stove put moisture in the air & it got to 78 degrees in the main part of our house.  I slept in the LR recliner for 2 nights & turned the burners down low.  I set an alarm for every 2 hrs to check on the stove & add water.  We had boiling water for tea, coffee, oatmeal, instant soup, etc.  We listened to the radio & I cleaned out bedroom closets while there was daylight.  Read the paper by flashlight, too.   No tree problems, but I recommend Alpine tree service out of Southlake.  I have used 3 other companies but Alpine is the best.

We would have gone to a motel, but we have a cat & 2 cage bound cockatiels.   Since I am on Medifast, I only eat "real" food one meal a day, so we did go out for lunch.   I used the Medifast meals that did not require a microwave.  We survived the Great Snowfall of 2010 & I lost another 2 lbs.  I have lost a total of 52 lbs since Aug 1st on Medifast & previously lost 32 lbs on my own.  I am now down 84 lbs with another 16 lbs to my goal.  And no, I am not doing this for the SOC reunion, I just want to go into retirement as a "little" old lady.

The biggest problem with the power outage was that our daughter was flying in on the 14th from Anchorage, Alaska to visit for 10 days.  We got our power back on the 13th. And we had a great visit.

The smileys were a tipping point for Cousin Johnny.  He began practicing for the Burning Man Festival by driving around The Woodlands naked in a Miata.  Obviously, that's most inappropriate in The Woodlands....or anywhere else for that matter.  Dru has sent him to "camp" for a little while.  The sight of the smileys will cause him to react in a strange manner.  (come on over to SOC '62, where we party hard, thrash it all out and only use keyboard symbols for smileys).

It actually started with John's fear of old age, and his abandonment of the '63 class, thinking that the '66 class was the fountain of youth.
Wish him well, but he'll be back - wrinkles and all!

Has anybody seen John..??? He's been missing since we 'harassed and harangued' him about the smileys....! Has John been put in a home..??  Dru, where's John..??
**You know, I would feel real bad if....he was put in a home... Or me...for that matter.
Maybe he had a seizure over the smileys...?? Oh no...!!!
