Sharon,I am so sorry to learn about your mother. It is painful to know that you didn’t get to see her At all.  I will email you. ❤️

Sharon, I’m so sorry to hear about your mother. 101 years, wow! You have some very good genes. How sad there can be no service at this time. May your dear mom rest in eternal peace.

Your trip down memory lane must have been difficult. That area is so rundown now, but I hear our school is glorious. I hope it remains that way. SOC was terribly neglected for decades

Michael, so nice to hear from you! I hear NY is a beautiful state. I’ve been to NYC a few times, but didn’t get to see New York. Please stay in touch.

David and I are holed up like a couple of outlaws, with occasional runs out to get provisions. Dallas is starting to open up again, even though the infection rate continues to climb. I don’t get it.

Everyone please stay in and stay safe.

I am in darn good health, 6'3", 190, slim, trim and svelte my wife says.  However, when the inevitable happens to me, and it will, my young wife is aware of this site so she can notify folks.

Facebook is fun.  Find me at Michael G. Peters in Scotia NY if you desire.

First time on our '63 Site in several years.  Saddened by those that have departed.

Most don't remember me as I departed SOC in January '63 to Hurst but I'll always be a SOCite regardless of where I physically lived in May 63.

Move to Upstate NY (the pretty part) in 2000 and miss my friends but not the TX Heat nor the traffic.  Rush hour around here lasts 30 minutes.

Be safe everyone and remember the one constant, we will always be SOCites.

Forgot to add that when I left Laurel Land yesterday, decided to drive down Marsalis and see SOC.  First, passed Five Mile Creek and it looked like a desert, no water and weeds 5 feet tall.  Don't know the problem there.  Then to SOC,  it really is something to see.  But my first reaction was, who in the hell thought it a good idea to put up this super-ultra modern building in this urban blight.  The neighborhood is atrocious.  Driving done memory lane was sad.

Hi.  I haven't posted here recently and am so sad to see that we've lost two more classmates.  My 101-year-old mother passed away on Monday, April 27.  I was unable to see her for last 6 weeks because of the nursing home lockdown.  The nursing home did not have any virus patients and she died in her sleep.  Sweet, precious woman.  We are not having any services at this time due to the conditions and restrictions, and it makes me sad.  But, all my family and extended family are huggers and kissers, so just would not do to have a service.

I have returned to work on a very limited basis.  I am working a couple of days a week for a half a day, just to keep up with the bills, etc.  I work in a 9-story building and there are no other people on my floor at this time.  I counted 30 cars in the parking lot and garage.  Stay safe.

Phillis, Sharlene did not have COVID-19, but she had dealt with health issues for years. She lived in Northern California, and is survived by her loving husband, and her older brother and sister, plus a devoted niece and many other loyal friends and loved ones. You’re right that the current mess is preventing a large gathering to mourn her.

Phyllis,

This is a difficult time for the family. They are spread out all over the U S. There is nothing to report now.

I looked online for an obituary for Sharlene Ruth Houghtaling Alexander, but could not find one.  Then it occurred to me that perhaps the COVID-19 crisis was preventing or delaying her funeral.  How sad that so many are dying alone and cannot even be properly mourned.

It is with great sorrow that I have to tell you that Sharlene Houghtaling Alexander past away earlier today.  Sharlene has been struggling with several medical issues for a number of years.  For those of you in the SOC class of 1963 will remember her as being named Most  Beautiful. She was just as beautiful on the inside.  Heaven has gained a true angel today.

Good question Pat. I wonder also. My nieces‘ husband takes it.

We’re spending our quarantine at our small ranch outside of Houston. Here we can get outside and have chores to do to keep us busy. Plus we see the beautiful Texas wild flowers.

I pray all are stay safe no matter where you are.

Gods hand upon me. In January I had open heart surgery with 3 bypasses at the VA Hospital. I am doing great now and have been released to drive again. I have had numerous friends pray for me including fellow SOC friends and I want thank each and everyone for their prayers. God knew in advance what was coming to America but I didn't. His grace is sufficient.

We did go through the polio virus in our day that affected several of our friends back then, including Tim Wright, my classmate David Robertson.  Remember when we stood in line in the school halls getting our shot for polio..  it was pretty scary for kids of our age then.

It occurred to me that back in our day, we would not have known about corona virus. It would have been business as usual. There would have been no Breaking News stories, and stores would have plenty of Clorox, alcohol and toilet paper in stock. I wonder if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that we know so much now.

Hello everyone, It’s been months since I’ve commented here. Yes, As time goes by,(seems so quickly now)  we are losing some of our classmates. I too, remember them so well in the halls of SOC. I’m so happy that I went to the 55th reunion. It was a small group, but, thankfully, I was fortunate to be able to visit with those classmates and especially with two friends who are now gone. We do not know what tomorrow has in store for any of us...young or old.  I’m thankful for each day.

Wow, I went back and looked at the Memoriam page too.  It is a staggering number of people, including people who looked young and healthy the last time we saw them, and some I hadn't even known -- or remembered -- that we had lost.  Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.  All we can do is to live as fully as we can today and to always tell our loved ones how very much we love them, in case we never get another chance to do so.

Very sorry to learn the news about Ada Mooney. I took a minute to go to our Memoriam page and review the list of other classmates who've passed on. I am amazed at the sheer number. So many faces I can recall from way back when we were eighteen and full of vigor and looking forward to whatever the future might bring. It is a major achievement to still be here as 2020 unfolds.

There's going to be an Open House at SOC on Saturday, so that alumni, members of the public, etc., can see the new facility.  I saw it on the news, but didn't catch the time.

Plyllis, exactly! I remember those futuristic displays at the fair. We’d be really old at the turn of the century, but we’d wear silver jumpsuits to cook effortlessly. Happy 2020, SOCites!

Gosh, when we were kids and first realized that we might live to see the 21st Century, we thought, "but we'll be really old."  Now, here we are, 20 years later.  Happy New Year, everyone!
