Comments: Has anyone heard if Charlotte Anders land was flooded and/or any other SOCITES in the Houston area, i.e. John Southworth, etc...?
Comments: Barry, they just released the water from the Conroe dam, and Gary said it would be heading towards Houston and South. Just what they need, more water. Praying for our SOC friends and we have family in the Houston and Katy areas.
Comments: As some of you know, we have a vacation house in Port O'Connor. I went down last Thurs to board up windows and empty fridge and freezer. I tried to drive back Thurs but traffic was so bad and it was raining so I spent the night in Hallettsville. So far, we have been blessed and had very little damage. The water, electricity, sewer and cell service are all off and it might be weeks/months until all are restored. Our only concern is all the water north of us that needs to find its way south. The Guadalupe and San Antonio rivers are predicted to have record flooding. The Colorado has flooded LaGrange. Keep South Texas in your prayers.
Comments: Gary talked with Johnny and Kathy Maddox in Conroe, and they are doing fine. Apparently Lake Livingston is on the other side of them where their son lives. The son cannot get out of his community as the gated area is under 3 feet of water and they are stuck until it recedes. His son Mark wants to get to his office ASAP due to all the calls they will be having due to the damages. Wondering how John Southworth and Dru are doing. I have seen the cattle and left behind pets having a hard time through the flooding. Prayers are ongoing. Even the cruise ships cannot dock at Galveston due to the water on the highways heading into Houston. A big mess.
Comments: Any of our classmates in south Texas, especially Houston, Spring, etc. let us know if you are safe as soon as you can. I can't even imagine my house flooding. Came close years ago in Paris, TX and never want to go through it again.
Comments: I guess -- technically -- I'm a lurker, as I check the site far more often than I post. But, it seems I just don't have that much worthwhile to contribute. The flooding down at the Coast is just awful, though. Pray for Texas!
Comments: Please be safe, South Texas SOCites! This hurricane is scary.
Comments: Barry, I, too, wish people would comment whenever they stop to lurk. I do not know how to fix this. Glad you and Joan and puppies enjoyed Utah.
Comments: Living in SoCal as a Navy wife in the late 1960s, I was stunned to see people order cocktails at the table on the rare occasions we had dinner in a restaurant, I was also stunned by the sucky, tastefree Mexican food they served!
Comments: Glad to hear you had a great trip to UT. I found it funny about the liquor stores because back in the '70's the same was true in Washington state and Oklahoma. These were operated by the state and could not advertise. So, unless you knew where they were located, you were out of luck. In Washington, I drove around a small shopping center for at least 10 minutes looking for all the neon signs before finally stopping someone and asking. I'm sure I had passed that store a dozen times! Felt like an idiot. Also, mid-70's, visiting friends in Tucson, and going to the grocery store on SUNDAY that had beer, wine AND liquor for sale before noon. Talk about culture shock. Of course, after all this time, everything could be really different.
Comments: Sure not the activity there once was. I check in periodically just to see what's going on and for the past few months, there has been nothing. Maybe everyone else has been doing the same thing. Joan and I spent a month in southern UT from middle of April until the middle of May. I had never been there and really had a great time. We have an Airstream travel trailer and took our two Yorkies with us. They get a little off their feed for a couple of days but really travel pretty well. Raider and Addie are litter mates and are 2 1/2 years old. Raider is the alpha male and is always on guard. He doesn't like big trucks or anything else that gets too close. Addie just sleeps in Joan's lap. We had ideal weather most of the time. When in Bryce Canyon, we had snow and three nights that it got down to 20. Sure go through a lot of propane! It seemed like every other person we met had flown to Las Vegas and rented an RV. A lot of them were from the Netherlands, Germany and France. Joan spent over an hour one day visiting with a Morman couple while doing the wash. Interesting people. Did you know that there is only one liquor store in each town in UT? It's like they hide them and without asking a local you would never find them. Some don't have any signs and might be in the back of a hardware store. Of course, we only heard about this and were not actually looking for a liquor store in every town we visited! I hope everyone is doing well and I hope to see some posts that are not about another classmate passing away.

Comments: You guys are astounding. 54 years and counting. Hard to believe so much time has gone by. In those years, i have lived in NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, SF, Hong Kong, Singapore, then again SF. But SOC in 1963 was a special place. I am saddened to see the list of our classmates who have already passed on (I can still see their young faces in my mind), but I like to think back to the good times we had. Best wishes to all of you. Glenn
