Comments: John, Thanks for the info on Mrs Egan. I new the Egans at Cliff Temple. It was so nice to read of her wonderful life and the philanthropic contributions she made. Her obit was a wonderful tribute to her.
Comments: I am going to have to move -- after 17 years in the same duplex in the Bishop Arts District -- within the next 6 weeks or so, as my new landlady wants to make the extensive repairs that the prior owner deferred. If anyone knows of any decent, not-too-expensive, rental properties in Dallas, please shoot me an email. Thanks!
Comments: Whilst perusing the Class of '66 Guestbook tonight, I noticed Rick Watts had posted a comment about the death of Virginia Egan - mother of our Mike Egan. As I recall, the Egans lived just a block or two south of the high school. Here is a link to her obituary from Dec. 30th: http://restland.tributes.com/our_obituaries/Mary-Virginia-Egan-97444716
Comments: HAAAAA. I SAID NAVADA AND I MEANT NEBRASKA!!!!
Comments: I've not seen the movie, Charlotte, but thanks for reminding me to check my spam folder. Looks like I am about to become very wealthy, thanks to several people with exotic names. My spam life seems to be a lot more interesting than my real life. .
Comments: Has anybody else gotten eviction notices in your spam folder...I have now received 4. And, of course, I have to give them all my info, to prove to them it is not me they are seeking , reminds me of the movie, "Navada". Has anyone seen it...hilarious!
Comments: I just read that the Duck Dynasty family is going to sponsor a NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway this year and also one of the smaller NCAA Bowl games in LA. Talk about marketing! My mother stayed up with me to watch the Dayton 500 last night and was just amazed at all the wrecks and no one seriously injured. I almost couldn't watch the last few laps because I was hoping Jr. would win so badly.
Comments: So sorry Lynell. We are losing our friends now.
Comments: I'm sad to report that my good friend Sydney Duffin Eller has passed away in Arlington, Texas. Some of you may remember Sydney from Bushman or Lisbon. Her son Russell has reported it on Facebook.
Comments: Our women's figure skating team may not have won any medals, but they were the best, along with the Korean girl. I am wondering if there wasn't some kind of rigging of scores again.
Comments: I believe Texas now has "no excuse" absentee voting, meaning that anyone can request and vote by absentee ballot.
Comments: Linda, sounds like a fun evening!
Comments: Linda, Some of those imitators are amazing. One might think you were looking at the real Elvis. I listen to Elvis's radio station everyday (19 on Sirius XM radio and Willie Nelson's Roadhouse station on Sirius XM 56). Willie's station plays the oldies in country music. (A lot different than today's country music). My son went to Skyline with Wednesday Presley. Her father was Elvis's first cousin and he looked exactly like Elvis.
Comments: Ft Worth Star Telegram: Rock & Roll Show featuring ELVIS tribute artist Donny Edwards. Saturday March 22, 2014 7 pm Tickets $20.00 Arlington Music Hall, 224 North Center Street, Arlington, TX 76011 Box office 817-226-4400 I found Donny Edwards on YouTube and he looks and sounds very good: There are several places to eat nearby. The best place for a group to eat before the show is The Grease Monkey on the next block. We have attended several shows at Arlington Music Hall in the past couple of years & all have been excellent. The old theater was remodeled a few years ago. It is extremely nice. Parking is free, but I recommend getting a parking space no later than 4:30 pm, so it would be best to eat nearby. My husband graduated from Arlington High & they had a get together last year. It was a 60's show & we ate at The Grease Monkey. You walk up to the counter, order & pay before you find a seat. It also has a bar. It would be best to start walking to Arlington Music Hall no later than 6:30 pm. They will not seat you past curtain time. There is also Babe's Chicken next door on the north side of the theatre & a very nice pizza place next door to the south. We have eaten at both & they are also very good, just may not be able to handle a very large group where everyone could sit together.
Maybe we could get a group together to attend? Or wear a gold and white flower (or something) to the theater to join up with some other Socites that night?
Comments: Believe me...they know!!!!
Comments: If no ID is required, how do they know you are 65 if you request a mail-in ballot?
Comments: Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
Comments: I've already mailed mine in....I think one has to be a registered voter to ballot by mail...at least I hope so.
Comments: I don't know if you-all know about 'Mail-In Ballots'. You are entitled to request one if you are over 65 or disabled. Mail-In Ballots are supposed to be very important in this next election. You have to obtain a Mail-In Ballot Application. I received one at a Democratic Party mtg. You can probably call your Voting Registrar in your county and have one sent. There is one 'online' too, probably at both party websites.. The application is good for the whole year.. You send the application in and they will immediately send back your ballot which has a deadline for mailing to the 'registrar'.. It's very handy.. No ID is necessary for people 65 and older or disabled. (with a Mail-In Ballot)
Comments: You all just received a hug and kiss from me. Happy Valentine's Day.
Comments: Yep, Peaches...these days, every day I wake up and can GET up is a beautiful day,...thankfully we have heaters, air conditioning and windows to open or insulate. Hot is 100% humidity and 90 degrees so don't tell us people down by the gulf coast your sad stories of hot or cold for that matter. Humidity and cold is BONE chilling. I've lived in other climates and wouldn't want to live anywhere else but where I am now. I love Texas, weather, mosquitoes and all. We are fortunate to be in this wonderful state where people are moving in by the 1000s to have a better life and jobs. Houston and Dallas are among the most desirable cities to move to at the moment...I think both are on the top 5. Okay, stepping down from the soap box now.
Comments: I discovered the AC was on today in my car. No wonder it felt so nice! I love Texas.
Comments: Austin, Tx was so hot in August, I suggested they might close the city down, and evacuate until October... Global warming does cause heavier winters...and Mike and others...we have messed up the environment... I want that rainy 'front', back, that would roll through Waco and Central Texas every weekend... More rain is definitely needed.. And 'who' wants to live in Detroit or Chicago...or Florida, for that matter..?? I heard someone say that 'middle easterners/ Arabs'...own part of the Detroit area...? You-all ever heard that..?
Comments: Every day is a beautiful day (no matter what the weather) in the world God has created for us. Try to enjoy every day!
Comments: C'mon...if you don't like the weather in Texas, wait a minute!!!!!! You know the saying...it's true and always has been....doesn't anyone remember the drought in the 50's when we had to go get our drinking water? We are not causing any changes....yes, we could be better about taking care of our environment i.e., recycling everything and being conservative of our water tables, but people...we are not in control of the weather..ask the east coast and Atlanta folks about "global warming" and see what they have to say about it. LOL!! We have seasons here. They are just different from different parts of the country....our fall color happens in Dec and our summer is 5 months long. So? We all know it and should just "wait a minute". What if you were in the Panhandle?? Whoa!! I like the change...soon some of us will be wishing for some cool weather. Just sayin!!!
Comments: Back in the 17, & 1800's, we came over from europe into New England, New York, Boston etc. We brought over slaves from Africa & sent them to Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Jamaica, & what is now the U.S. Virgin Islands. Now, we save to go on vacation where they live. What a bunch of dumb asses we were! Why didn't we move there & send them to Detroit, Chicago, etc. And you wonder why we screw up the environment--making money is more important than protecting our home--Mike
Comments: RE: weather. My next door neighbor has the solution. He is 83 yrs old and has been a foundry pattern maker and machinist and inventor all his life. He still works in his shop every day. His idea is to build a pipeline between January and July, and moderate the weather on both ends. Brilliant !!!
Comments: I couldn't agree with Phyllis more we have messed up the environment. The news usually never mentions this and pretends everything is normal. I wish this country would be more like European countries (especially Germany) who are making changes to improve the environment.
Comments: Yes, we desperately need rain. My brother lives in East Tawakoni and he has been able to drive his golf cart across what should be the cove where his house sits. Beautiful lake house overlooking what appears to be a desert. Been like this since early last summer. Let's pray for a rainy Spring.
Comments: I have to respectfully disagree, Ginger. Considering how hot it gets here in the summer, it gets entirely too cold in winter, and vice-versa. A more temperate and moderate climate would be much appreciated. That being said, it could be much worse. We could be freezing our tails off with my kin up in Michigan, Minnesota and North Dakota. My niece in Detroit -- who's young and tough -- is a letter carrier who normally thrives in inclement weather, but even she is suffering this year. We have really messed up the environment!
