Mike Eagan was at Cliff Temple in my Sunday School Class.  I don't remember his mother making the girls quit wearing shorts to rehearsals...haaaaaa!!  She must have been STRICT.  Hey, was she the reason that the girls and boys who were at church camp could not swim together???  Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!  Believe me, that did not keep the girls away from the boys....Haaaaa!

Last time we talked with Jack, he and Kelly were living in Rockwall. He was working out of his home by that time still practing law. He was happy and content with his new bride.   Speaking of the Boy Scouts, there was one scout leader from the 63 class that was removed from scouting altogether due to molestation charges, it was even in the Times Herald when he was arrested.  I will not say his name but his name came up in the files that were recently made public. I would have never expected that of him ever.  You never know do you that one person you grew up with would turn out that way and cause harm to other kids.

Dan, Jack Cowley went on to become a personal injury attorney. Practiced in Houston and Corpus Christi and, last I heard, was practicing in Dallas (you can Google "Jack B. Cowley" for the details).

He surfaced around 2007 with a beautiful new bride (Kelly) and by the looks of the pic below, seemed pretty content with Life.

Seems back in the day we had a number of classmates involved in the Boy Scouts. At the time I had no idea some were achieving Eagle Scout status (like Robert Gann and Buzz Barron).

Mike was in scouts with me . We both lived on Fortune lane a block south of SOC. One of my favorite dreams was flying to Clara Oliver just above the electric lines. Come Holloween we would do all of the streets from SOC to Glendale shopping center and then west to ! 35 .we made a killing. Any one remember shopping for school supplies at Skillerns. For 5 dollars worth of supplies you could get a coupon for a shake or malt??? What ever happened to Jack Cowley? we dug a hole for something in scouts his father our scout master stepped into it and broke an ankle. His father died while he was in High school I brlieve

That's some story about Mike Egan and the Chemistry Set...gunpowder thing. My only experience with a chemistry set was at Tommy McGown's house in the 2nd grade. Tommy was from Harrell Budd, Boude Storey and Adamson..so you probably didn't know him, John.  He made me carry the 'vile' of whatever from the kitchen to his room. I, of course spilt some on the kitchen floor and left a spot, like a 'permanent, eaten away spot'.. Egan's garage floor reminded me of that kitchen floor experience..The garage floor may have cleaned up better than the kitchen floor. I don't remember 'what' was in that vile, but it sounds like it could have 'eaten my hand'...! Oh well, another one or two of those memories from our youth..
(I guess it didn't damage our relationship, however, because  Tommy was my boyfriend in the 3rd grade, too. Didn't mix any more 'concoctions' at his house, though...)

Dan, you made far more progress with Pamela Melton than I did. In my last semester at SOC we shared a class and I flirted with her. She made it very clear that she was in a serious relationship. Sure enough, right after graduation she married.

I haven't thought of Mike Egan in many years. In the 7th grade he announced to me that he had discovered the "recipe" to make gunpowder. Surprisingly, the stuff only has 3 ingredients - two of which were already present in his chemistry set (sulfur & potassium nitrate). The third item required was powdered charcoal which he made by crushing up a charcoal briquet.

He invited me over to his garage for a demonstration of the concoction. Mike took a long strip of cloth (soaked in alcohol) and poured his homemade gunpowder in a little pile on one end of the cloth. Then he rolled it up tightly for about a foot, leaving about 18 inches of cloth which was to be the "fuse".

We watched in anticipation as he dropped a lit match on the fuse and the flames danced toward the gunpowder. Thankfully, it didn't explode but it did ignite and send a shower of sparks out both sides of the rolled up material. When the smoke cleared all that was left was a big burn mark in the shape of a "T" on the garage floor.

Mike turned to me and said "Wow! I'm going to call this my 'T-Torch!'". I'm not sure if he ever got a patent on it?

Okay, all you former Concert Choir 'people'.. Do you remember Mike Egan's mother stopping the girls from wearing 'shorts' to the 'musical rehearsals' at night...at SOC..? Seeing his name..reminded me of that. Were we that 'indecently dressed'..? We were so use to wearing them for Deb rehearsals...that it was kind of 'weird' when she did that... Oh the joys of our youth...!

Hi Dan,

I went to Clara Oliver along with many other SOC grads. In fact there are so many I can't name them all.  Those who did go there jump in here and let Dan know.  I had Mrs Grimes for home room....Peaches and Ouida Hoyle Rose can probably remember more people that I can.  Nice to hear from you.

I remember one memorable day at Lisbon in the sencond grade. The entire class was held after school. We had done something that
day that I don't even remember now. We only stayed for 15 minutes or so. THat momment  60 years ago scared me so much I never had another detention, paddling, write up or any disaplinary problem through out my school years. The only wild thing I did  was going to Kiest park during our graduation parties and srinking my 1st beer.  I know, I've lived a shealtered live!!!! bYE EVERYONE

Charlotte and Brenda, we loved our Lisbon boys! Barney, Mike, Gary, Kenneth, Keith, Eddie and others my feeble brain remembers but has forgotten the names of. Buddy, Jackie, Altus (my busriding first love) and so many others. Boys were a scary world for one who grew up with mother and two aunts and no brothers. They were nice kids, a mystery, so funny and cute.

Brenda, I know you miss your sweetheart. I remember Barney so well from Lisbon. He was always BMOC on Valentine's Day because it was his birthday. You know he was no shy flower! And in the film room? OMG, the noises he would make. The teacher would flip the light on and there would be Mr. Innocent, batting his big blue headlights.

We need a subject....to converse about..  I know I'm not spending all that time listening to the State of the Union...or the commentaries..afterwards. We've been hearing for a week, ' what'  will be said and 'who' will comment. It's like watching the previews for a show for a week, a month, and you're so tired of it by the time it comes out, you might not watch the show itself.
I like the President and I'm sure I will hear enough about it for the rest of the week.. If he says anything 'surprising' or 'astounding', we'll hear about that too..
I have 6 library books, most FBI Thriller 'type'. I have a David Baldacci and a Vince Flynn and several more. I get enough coverage on Washington in those. It may be mostly 'fictional', but it will probably keep my attention longer...
Have a nice Tuesday Evening..whatever you do...!

I have answered David's Mitchell's email regarding our 50th Reunion.  Yes, we will have a 50th Reunion. It has been very difficult for me to think about this one since I lost 3 of my best friends in 2012. But I am healing a little and will get it going. Please, please email if you have any changes to your address or phone number since our 45 Reunion and 65th birthday party. That will help. I will post some time in the near future (probably in March). Your comittee will be getting together early March.
