Just read on Face Book that Mary Irene is doing well and so happy to have Peaches and Mary Kay there to visit with.  I am so glad they were able to be with her this weekend.

In the Ft Worth Star Telegram yesterday, the Arlington Music Hall has a list of upcoming shows.  On the list for Sept 1st Saturday 7pm is a FREE CONCERT.  It is not on their website.  I just spoke with the ticket office 817-226-4400 and it is a variety show.  Just tell them how many tickets and pick the tickets up at the prepaid window that night.

Kathleen, I have many memories of the old Volks location at Skillman/Live Oak -- including putting a gorgeous suede coat with mink collar in layaway, and eventually paying it out.  At one point, goldfish swam around a long path in that store.

Later it went through several incarnations, including a so-so Mexican restaurant where I once asked a waiter if I could have "more tea, please."  He was gone a long time, then trotted over with a MARTINI, up.  Maybe I mumbled.  Anyway, they didn't last long. Later, I took depositions about the beer dispenser at Tipperary Inn.  So many memories!  They'll do well as The Mecca.

Peaches, I pray that God brings comfort to Mary and all who love her.  Have a safe trip and a good visit.

I hope Mike's granddaughter has a speedy recovery.  I know we will all pray for Mike and his family.  Lynell, I happened to drive by the old Tipperary Inn today and there is a big sign proclaiming the building to be the future home of the Mecca Restaurant.  This location should be a great improvement.  Lately, I have been hearing a lot about Ayn Rand and her philosophy.  I was wondering if any of you remember that Ms. Bryant, my algebra teacher, took a week off from teaching math to read us Ayn Rand's novel Anthem.  Although I don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, the novel made quite an impression on me__at least the part about the pleasure palaces.

West Nile in Dallas?  I see on the news that spraying is happening.  18 deaths and 400 cases?  Whoa!!  I hope none of you or your family members have gotten this horrible virus.  I remember when Houston used to spray with the trucks.  Now, I have the Mosquito Man equipment at my townhouse.  It is not toxic to humans or dogs and it KILLS  those skeeters!  The spray goes off once in a while, but I can also turn it on with a remote.
You Big D folks be careful!

Peaches, was Emily involved in the accident in Maypearl?  There were 4 teenagers in that accident, young man was driving a Volkswagen Beetle, lost control of car, the three girls ages 15-16, one was ejected from the vehicle and two of the girls were air flighted to Parkland and Baylor, the others taken to Methodist Dallas.  The picture of the car was in the Dallas Morning News this morning.   We will be praying for Mike and his granddaughter Emily as well as the other kids involved in this wreck, so very sad.

Mike Young, class of 63, just called. His 16 year old granddaughter, Emily Powell, was in a car wreck last night. The doctors are telling them she will be paralyzed from the waist down.  Mike has requested prayer for his family. As you know Mike himself just went through surgery having 2 stints put in. He is doing okay  but is vey concerned and devasted about his precious Emily. She makes excellent grades and is a Cheerleader.  We all know the POWER OF PRAYER. Jesus is our Healer and Great Physician and she is in His hands!

Thats the problerm, Sharon. Jerry Jones has always thought he was another Al Davis ( who he used to call for advice 2 or 3 times per week). No matter how much he would like to be, Jones will never be another Al Davis.

I read somewhere that The Mecca was going to move to Skillman and Live Oak, now called Lakewood..  Wonder if the waitresses who gave the place so much character will drive way down there.  They were always funny and nice.  It'll be nice to go there and not have to wade in wee-wee in the unisex bathroom.  (That was on my final visit to the place on Harry Hines.)

We had over three inches of rain on our little chateau last night.  I awoke to blinking lights from David's clock.  We had a power outage, I suppose.  Thank goodness it didn't last long.  Once endured a three-day blackout in Garland.  We were younger back then.

Barry, take Joan to the former Opryland Hotel and buy her a nice dinner.  It's only money!!

The drought has ended in Southlake.  We have gotten over 3" of rain since 10PM last night and it's still raining.  Of course, the power has been out since 1:30AM and Oncor says they expect it to be working by 9PM.  Joan forgot to ask them which day!  I hooked up the generator before coming to work this morning and Joan is getting good at keeping gas in it.  If it was only large enough to run the A/C.

Of course, if Bill is right about the Mecca moving to Cole Avenue this info which was on my neighborhood website could be wrong.  My message was posted before i could proofread it.  So excuse any typo mistakes.

It looks like the new Mecca Restaurant is going to be located where the old Tipperary Inn used to be, originally where Volk's Department stores used to be in Lakeview.  The new Matt Martinez Restaurant and La Calle Doce are all on the same block.  Greenville and several other streets converge there in a triangle.

Lynell, I doubt that JJ will sell the Cowboys before he dies.  I envision another Al Davis in the making, if he's not already there.  Seems to me, he's already starting to look a little like him.

Sharon, even your sports fan evil twin -- my husband David -- wasn't able to sit through the Cowboys game last night.  You know that I know absolutely nothing about sports. (Football is guys in tight pants who run around and fall down) -- but in my humble opinion the Cowboys need a new owner.

Charlotte, that was too funny.  We lost Horshak today of a heart attack.  Wonder what happened to Gabe Kaplan?  Tried to watch the Cowboy game last night but couldn't.  They really need an extended pre-season.  Let's hope the offensive line gets a lot better.

I hope the Mecca is successful in its move.  That old building was falling down.  Thanks for the picture, Bill, made me hungry.

Okay dokey, Ms. C.A..  Please fix your name or someone will complain.  Look, I just made a poem.

Oh, how I loved the old Mecca.  I dragged many a young lawyer in there, wild-eyed and wanting to scream for mama.  Made converts of every one.  Dragged even more into Gennie's on Bishop, back when the screen door had a piece of cotton stuffed in every hole. I was known as that court reporter who knows her way around Oak Cliff and isn't afraid to go there.  Thank you, Dallas media.

Last time I went to Mecca, it was revolting.  Glad to hear they are moving.  I was amused by Dr. Phil's crusade about weight loss.  Used to see him in The Mecca every time I went there.

Some of the info in the south paw stats says that about 13% of the population around the world are left handed.......it also says they make more money than righties!

The members of the Left Handers Group say they are also better looking, smarter and have better personalities than the right handers.

Thanks Bill...I am so hungry now!!!!!!

The site of what I believe was the location for the very first SOCite luncheon (at that time, in a sexist move, open to the ladies only), The Mecca Restaurant, has closed.

Not forever, but just to move to a new location in East Dallas, on Live Oak. The Dart line which opened behind the old location took a serious toll on their business, the lease was up and the building was falling apart. Throw in the fact that the neighborhood was not conducive to night-time business (which will be available at the new spot) and it seems to make sense for the move.

When I worked for the old Ward Drug Co., our office was just down the street and I ate lots of biscuits and gravy and chicken fried steaks there. Folks in East Dallas are lucky!
