Comments: I got "carded" a few days ago. Young lady didn't think I was old enough to get a senior discount. She was probably just flirting with me!
Comments: I've only been to Disney World...never Land. Terry's friend worked there as a costume designer and we got in free. I loved seeing it. I was 29 years old. The reason I remember my age is that was when the drinking age was 21 and I had to show my ID so the guys could order a beer! Ahhhh! Those were the days!
Comments: Lynell, I have never had anyone sit on me, but I have been pinched on my seat a couple of times. One time was in New York City and the other time was in Mexico City. Since the second time in Mexico City I was robbed. I thought that maybe robbing me was the reason they were trying to distract me. Sometime later I discovered that the guy in Mexico City had taken his knife and cut a huge hole in the side of my purse. Since it was Mexico City, I only had a roll of toilet paper in my purse which the thief didn't bother to take.
Comments: We went to Disneyland twice. The second time, we went early and hit all the "E" rides first. By noon, the place was packed and the lines were ridiculously long. Ginger, I will always wonder what that guy was thinking when he sat on me like that. It was a tram with all the bench seats facing outward. Most bizarre thing I ever experienced. David and I finally shoved him aside. Sharon, I worked in San Pedro for a long-term Kelly Girl job. It was a doctor's office with an oil well in the parking lot. Didn't see Steve anywhere though! That was early 1970.
Comments: Lynell: Steve and I went to CA in August, 1985 (the day the plane crashed at DFW) so I could meet his family before we got married. Since Steve grew up in San Pedro, he went to Disneyland all the time, but I forced him to take me. I had a blast and got my "ears". I kept that hat for years but finally gave it away. We didn't ride too many rides because the lines were just way too long, but we still had bunches of fun. I would love to go to DisneyWorld/Epcot Center before I don't have the energy to walk around!
Comments: That's very 'tacky' of that man, Lynell. Did he finally get 'offa' you...? ![]()
Comments: The Disney time lapse was very interesting. Most interesting thing that happened to me at DL Anaheim 1969: David and I were on a tram. We were the only ones on the tram because it was a weekday. David was off duty as a Master at Arms on the USS Okinawa, where they stuck him after Vietnam. I guess I didn't have a Kelly Girl gig that day. We were on the tram alone. It stopped and some lovely young woman n high heels got on with her uncle, I suppose. The uncle sat down ON me. I said, "HEY!" This idiot acted like he had not known I was there. He appeared to have no vision issues. His young, buxom blonde friend rolled her eyes. Because he didn't understand he was sitting on me, I said, "Get offa me!" He said something like, "You don't need to make an issue out of this!" He kept sitting on me. Next time, "GET OFFA ME!!" But Pirates of the Caribbean was a good ride. And I bought a Mickey Mouse shirt.
Comments: John, I WAS impressed with the time lapse photography. Guess it's my not-so-inner child, but that seems to be about how quickly the time went by when I was there with my kids.
Comments: JS...I wasn't particularly 'impressed' with the zippy Disneyland thingie... I've been to DisneyWorld...twice, but it's been years.. I like to walk slow through Main Street..etc. The night time.."Electric Light Parade"..was quite exciting.. Staying in the hotel with the monorail...going over your head, while you eat, was exciting, too.
Comments: The only benefit David received for his year in Vietnam was we were given the opportunity to buy discount tickets to Disneyland in 1969. We got in for only ten bucks each. I have pictures somewhere, although they're not as zippy as JS's link. I had to show our marriage license to get my ticket. I guess they didn't want sailors showing up with whoopee women, trying to get the cheap ticket! Twenty bucks was a lot of money, so we took our lunch. I remember packing it and freezing some Cokes. Hoped they didn't explode on the way. I also remember reading the map as we sped along the freeway to Anaheim from Long Beach. I told David, "We're coming up on a stadium. Home of the Calangels." He hasn't let me forget about the Calangels. Geeze, wonder what else is stuck in my cobwebby brain.
Comments:
Ever been to DisneyLand? Me neither.
But here is a "quick" trip for your summer pleasure. From the looks of it, nightime is the right time.
Comments: MaryKay Crowder reported on Facebook that she has 33 yeses and 5 maybes for the luncheon June 23, so if you haven't checked it out yet, take a look at the Events Page.
Comments: I was told that the gap in the Watergate Tapes is 18 minutes long and so is the song "You Can Get Anything You Want in Alice's Restaurant." According to Arlo, the joke was that Nixon didn't want anyone to know that he was listening to counter culture music and he deleted the song from the Watergate Tapes. His sister Cathy had the same disease as her father and it looks like she has passed away. She was touring with him when he presented his concert on Greenville a few years back.
Comments: It's a smiley face like I would put on Kgn. work.. I had an OM Chopped Ham and Cheese sandwich with Lettuce and Mayo..Salt and Pepper.. (still a smiley for that) And my very good iced tea.. ![]()
Comments: Ginger the smiling face looks like some one enjoying Ice Cream You Having desert now One of the few enjoyments of ole age DESERT
Comments: Woody Guthrie died from Huntington's Chorea. Arlo always feared that he would get it.
Comments: Alice's... Wikipedia says it's at least 18 min. and 32 seconds long... It's a long listen...
Comments: "You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant." At least 14 minutes long...
Comments: I once shook Arlo's hand after a show he did at a theater on Greenville Arlo was really exhausted . During his concert, he talked about the twenty-two minutes lost in the Watergate tapes. This song is played every Thanksgiving and I believe it is "Alice's Restaurant." Woody, Arlo and his sister Cathy all suffer from a heredity disease, which caused Woody's death. it is late and I am having trouble with my memory, maybe, one of you can help me out.
Comments:
Well, pooh! Of course I meant Woody...Arlo is his son. I was thinking Woody and wrote Arlo...sorry!
Comments: It's Woody Guthrie... Arlo was born in 1947. I've already found him this week when going through the Bob Dylan 'stuff'. I had to correct myself on 2-3 songs.. Bob wrote a lot of songs but he sang other people's songs..too. Site Nazi...? We have a 1st Flr Nazi..here in these Sr. Apts..and we have a 3rd Flr Nazi... They're not known for their positive...traits, however..
Comments: BTW: Arlo Guthrie, the REAL Americana songster (this land is your land), would be 100 years old in July 2012. Just want to remind the Decorah Eagle watchers that the huge Eaglets are "wingersizing" flapping their wings and teetering on the edge of their nest and flying from one side of nest to the other. We won't get to see them fly to the limbs because of the limited view...we will only know they are gone....they will come back and forth for a while.
Comments: Oh, Jud Harmon, you have such a way with words -- uh, I guess.
Comments: Site Nazi...you would fit in perfectly with this bevy of beauties!
Comments: Look at these three. I have cutie pie envy!
Comments: Ginger, you are so right. All three SOC '63 girls look splendid!! There must have been something in those warm water fountains.
Comments: Jan put a very nice picture of Mary, Charlotte, and herself..up on Facebook. Very nice. ![]()
Comments: Fantastic news about Mary!
Comments: I had lunch with Mary Irene, Jan Willard Netherland and Martha Willard Brooks today at Jan's beautiful home in The Woodlands. Mary is doing so well after her gamma knife procedure. She says she feels good, but her vision is still poor. All four of us laughed and talked of old times and people we knew in common. Mary played the piano for us. It was gorgeous music to my ears to hear Mary, once again, play so beautifully. She showed me the hilarious picture of her self in her clear Darth Vader helmet. The one they use for the gamma knife procedure...what a hoot that woman is!!!!! Her brother, Bedford and his wife come next week to visit for a while and she is so excited. Bedford is in a wheelchair so they will certainly use the concrete path she has surrounding her beautiful and peaceful back yard as they visit.
Comments: Joan is still around.. I loved her Copper Kettle song..It seems Bob Dylan sang it, too. One of the Guthrie's is gone.. Have to google them to see.. I also remember The MTA..song.. remember the man that was lost forever neath the streets of Boston... that's a Kingston Trio hit.. Mr. Bojangles was written by Jerry Jeff Walker not Bob Dylan, but he sang it.. Loved the folk songs..still do.. |
