Comments: Whatever happened to Gordon Lightfoot, John Hartman, Bobby Goldsboro, Arlo Guthrie, and Joan Baez? Also, Motown.
Comments: Retraction... If you go to Bob's site.. there's a lot..that he recorded and a lot that he wrote..Have to click on them individually... Gordon Lightfoot..wrote Early Morning Rain... Bob sang it..
Comments: Robert Zimmerman...wrote a few songs. Among those.. Early Morning Rain, The Times They Are A-Changing..It Ain't Me, Babe, Blowing in the Wind, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Tambourine Man. One of my favorites is With God On Our Side, which Aaron Neville sang too.. He goes through all our wars and talks about how we think God is on our side.. Robert Zimmerman/ Bob Dylan just turned 70.. Bob Dylan and Paul Simon do hold special places in our generation's music..

Charlotte, a guy in Houston has a "business" that helps folks find lost items (rings, watches, hearing aids, earrings etc) by enlisting volunteers to go search with their metal detectors.
The "Lost My Stuff Group" provides the service for free and has about a 50% success ratio. Here's a link to some of the successful outcomes:

The service is offered nationwide.
Comments: When Bill and I were first married we lived in a small college town in Northeastern Oklahoma, Tahlequah. Tahlequah had a small rodeo, a state college and was the capital of the Cherokee Nation. It also had five FBI agents located there because it was a center for flying in drugs. It was a town that always attracted celebrities. For instance, John Wayne was spotted eating 5 cents a dip ice cream at the local drug store. By the way, we paid 24 cent a gallon for gasoline. The children of the town liked to swim in the river that flowed through the middle of the town. The town was basically one long street. A lot of musicians often played at the local pizza joint by the college campus. I remember they often played Bob Dylan songs especially "the Times They Are a Changing."
Comments: JS...I just read this...maybe there is a business here for you.... :It was a proposal plan gone wrong. A Colorado doctor vacationing in Florida thought he had a perfect proposal put together, but he lost the ring. He actually buried the ring in the sand. The tide came in, and when he went to propose the ring was missing. He had to call a company called Ring Finders, which used a metal detector to help find the ring. His girlfriend said "yes" and the ring isn't leaving her finger.
Comments: Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands wasn't my story, but I did love that album.
Comments: Possibly, you've been on another planet...Char. He wrote songs that told our story, that set the 60's in motion.. Has a 'whiny' voice...but his music is Great.!
Comments: Bob Dylan, whom I loved way more than The Beatles, owns a ranch in Maui. A ranch. Maybe that's why he won an award.
Comments: Wonderful news about Mary Mc!! She's Wonder Woman. Love you, Mary Irene.
Comments: Sharon , you are too funny...I didn't think you were being you-know-what. haaaaaaaaaa! Can someone tell me what Bob Dylan has done to deserve the Medal of Freedom Award???????? He did fry his brain with drugs, but what else? Don't get me wrong...I loved Bob Dylan and his music back in the day and have plenty of his records and I have nothing against the man....I'm just wondering

Comments: If you go to the 11th picture from the top, I think we are the 5th white boat from the left. Or maybe the 5th from the right. Loading the soldiers is controlled chaos but somehow gets done every year.
Comments: How in the heck did I totally miss the fact that Ralph Hall is still alive and still in office? Isn't he 100? I swear I thought I was paying attention all these years! I'm not getting political, Charlotte, I honestly was dumbfounded. So, obviously, I need to work on my attention span.
Comments: If you go to Stephen Cohen, Congressman from Tenn/ 9th District...(my district) on FB, you can see Bob Dylan and others at the White House...receiving those awards. Pat Summitt..lady Vols BB Coach is there, too.. Huerta is not in this picture..
Comments: She was presented the Medal of Freedom Award.
Comments: A few months back, my husband and I had the pleasure of having dinner with Dolores Huerta. She was presented the metal of freedom award today along with Madeline Albright, Bob Dylan and others. Huerta is known for her efforts to help farm workers in the 60's and 70's. She was also standing next to Robert F. Kennedy when he was shot. Huerta is a wonderful woman who has dedicated her entire life to helping others.
Comments: Barry...such wonderful photos! We are seeing the flag in the clouds from the back side, but it is a beautiful sight anyway. I voted too. It was thin down this way also. Just a note to tell you that Mary M Bach is having the gamma knife procedure tomorrow morning.
Comments: Warriors Weekend looks like a great cause. There were some excellent pictures on Barry's link, too. The one of the clouds and the flags is a piece of art. We voted today. The turnout looked thin on both sides of the room. I hope everyone who hasn't voted already gets to the polls before they close.
Comments: Here is a recap of Warriors Weekend on the local Port O'Connor newspaper's web site. There are several good photos showing the scope of what this little community does every year. Enjoy. http://thedolphintalk.com/
Comments: I'm sorry we can no longer opine politically on this site, but "it is what it is" and is probably all for the better in our current toxic political atmosphere. Today is the birthday of G. K. Chesterton, who -- obviously -- based on the following quotation, held politics in low esteem; to-wit: "The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected." In an equally non-partisan vein, all you Texas residents who have not already voted, please be sure to get out today and do so. Carry on.
Comments: Wow. Out of the office two days and it took me ten minutes to catch up on the posts. I watched a lot of baseball this weekend, which is rare for me, but those Rangers are so much fun to watch. Also, read two books. All in all, pretty laid-back weekend trying to recoup from a major respiratory infection. Hope you all had a great one and commemorated the day.
Comments: Lynn: Thanks for the reminder of the SOCites that indeed "gave their tomorrows for our todays." So sobering when one stops for a minute to ...... well, you got the idea. I proudly salute all Veterans and especially those that made the supreme sacrifice. Thanks again.
Comments: censorship was invented by politicians.
Comments: On Memorial Day, please click on this and remember our fallen classmates. http://www.soc1966military.com/otherclasses.htm May all these brave heroes rest in peace.
Comments: My husband and I were standing in our alley today visiting with some neighbors when we heard a roar. The Blue Angels flew right over our heads on their way to a flyover at Restland Memorial Park. How cool was that! I hope everyone has had a safe and happy Memorial Day, and taken a few moments to remember what the day is about. The Dallas Police Dept. has has anything but a restful day. They had police stationed at all overpasses on the highways to keep a bunch of motorcyclists from commandeering the road like they did last year to do stunts and spray graffiti. And now, some accused aggravated robber has climbed up into a crane on the SMU campus. Jud, your former CVS store on Mockingbird is in a state of lockdown at the moment.
Comments: Barry...ahem! Go ahead give it up to us!!
Comments: Charlotte: Sorry, but I do not understand your question. The print was so small.
Comments: Phil, you are right! Thanks for reminding us!
Comments: I love the Galvez.. Have been going there since my youth. The Navy used it as a Headquarters during WWII. It's rooms were large and spacious at one time, now they are smaller. Still a wonderful hotel. |
