Can someone tell me what Bob Dylan has done to deserve the Medal of Freedom Award???????? He did fry his brain with drugs, but what else? Don't get me wrong...I loved Bob Dylan and his music back in the day and have plenty of his records and I have nothing against the man....I'm just wondering

Mary just called. The gamma knife procedure is over....they found the tumors and some now ones and got 'em. She is at Jan Williard Netherlands for the next 24 hours. Charlotte Anders Strange and Martha (Jan's sister) are coming over for lunch. Can you believe, partying and laughing already? That is our GROUP. Mary Kay may post more later. Praise our Lord and Savior again. When talking with Mary last night she was so up beat and positive and laughing (as she always is). She has been feeling so good lately and is ready for her visit with Bedford and his wife. She is ceasing every moment. She directed her school choir two different events, played at church Sunday and have numerous visitors around her. She is going to a breakfast at school this Frida. She is blessed with so many friends and she has been such a great friend to many. Love, love, love our Mary.

If you go to the 11th picture from the top, I think we are the 5th white boat from the left.  Or maybe the 5th from the right.  Loading the soldiers is controlled chaos but somehow gets done every year.

How in the heck did I totally miss the fact that Ralph Hall is still alive and still in office?  Isn't he 100?  I swear I thought I was paying attention all these years!  I'm not getting political, Charlotte, I honestly was dumbfounded.  So, obviously, I need to work on my attention span.

If you go to Stephen Cohen, Congressman from Tenn/ 9th District...(my district) on FB, you can see Bob Dylan and others at the White House...receiving those awards. Pat Summitt..lady Vols BB Coach is there, too.. Huerta is not in this picture..

A few months back, my husband and I had the pleasure of having dinner with Dolores Huerta. She was presented the metal of freedom award today along with Madeline Albright, Bob Dylan and others. Huerta is known for her efforts to help farm workers in the 60's and 70's. She was also standing next to Robert F. Kennedy when he was shot. Huerta is a wonderful woman who has dedicated her entire life to helping others.

Warriors Weekend looks like a great cause.  There were some excellent pictures on Barry's link, too.  The one of the clouds and the flags is a piece of art.

We voted today.  The turnout looked thin on both sides of the room.  I hope everyone who hasn't voted already gets to the polls before they close.

I'm sorry we can no longer opine politically on this site, but "it is what it is" and is probably all for the better in our current toxic political atmosphere.  Today is the birthday of G. K. Chesterton, who -- obviously -- based on the following quotation, held politics in low esteem; to-wit:  "The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected."  In an equally non-partisan vein, all you Texas residents who have not already voted, please be sure to get out today and do so.  Carry on.

Wow.  Out of the office two days and it took me ten minutes to catch up on the posts.  I watched a lot of baseball this weekend, which is rare for me, but those Rangers are so much fun to watch.  Also, read two books.  All in all, pretty laid-back weekend trying to recoup from a major respiratory infection.  Hope you all had a great one and commemorated the day.

My husband and I were standing in our alley today visiting with some neighbors when we heard a roar.  The Blue Angels flew right over our heads on their way to a flyover at Restland Memorial Park.  How cool was that!

I hope everyone has had a safe and happy Memorial Day, and taken a few moments to remember what the day is about.

The Dallas Police Dept. has has anything but a restful day.  They had police stationed at all overpasses on the highways to keep a bunch of motorcyclists from commandeering the road like they did last year to do stunts and spray graffiti.  And now, some accused aggravated robber has climbed up into a crane on the SMU campus. 

Jud, your former CVS store on Mockingbird is in a state of lockdown at the moment.

I love the Galvez.. Have been going there since my youth. The Navy used it as a Headquarters during WWII. It's rooms were large and spacious at one time, now they are smaller. Still a wonderful hotel.

Recently, I saw a documentary on the Galvez. Underneath the hotel is a major bomb shelter set up for the government. but will probably never be used.

We haven't heard anything from Transamerica. Our attorney is working on the case. It looks like we will have to go to court to get them to pay. Then the insurance company will probably try to make some kind of settlement.
This weekend we are watching the NBA playoffs on ESPN. I plan on visiting Restland tomorrow. My husband is a big Celtics fan. My son and his family went to San Antonio.

I was thinking back and wondered, Kathleen, did anything get resolved for your mother in law and her long term care insurance situation?  Most of the time I find that insurance companies hope you will just give up when they turn you down for something and don't expect you to get an attorney. 
 
What are some of you SOCites doing for this Holiday?  I see on Face Book that some went to Galveston...I haven't been there in too long.  I used to go all the time when my friends had houses down there, but they sold and now I just don't go.  A while back one of my friends took her grand children and stayed at the Galvez...she said they had a blast....but it was not a holiday weekend.
