Comments: Sharon "Red" Reeves:Had dinner last nite at TGI Friday's.Last time I enterd one of their stores was with you....a long time ago...memories....!
Comments: Oh, Brenda, it is so nice to see your name on here! Please do check in often. It sounds like you made a big change and moved into the city. Good for you! I know you will love the convenience of being close to everything. Good luck with those teens. They'll keep you young!
Comments: I haven't looked in on this website in a while and probably are one in a few that does not do facebook so after catching up on all the news I am so heart broken to see all of the medical problems that Mary is going thru after all she has already endured. Her courage and attitude are definitely to be admired. I also wish I had seen the luncheon info at Martha Bass'...sounds like it was fun...I have finally sold my home in Pottsboro and the grandchildren and I bought a home in Sherman. We feel like we are in the big city. So with that move and struggling thru all the turmoils of a 16 and 18 year old I am ready for a vacation!!
Comments: Do you catch and release or keep and eat??? Is a Bonnethead Shark edible???? It is great to know about this project and I am so American proud of this organization.
Comments: Barry, that sounds like a wonderful weekend for all concerned, except maybe that bonnethead shark.
Comments: Warriors Weekend was a huge success. 350 wounded soldiers from all over the country were treated to some Texas hospitality in Port O'Connor, TX this past weekend. The overall sentiment was that the soldiers had been all over the world but had never been treated as warmly and sincerely as they had been since arriving in Texas. And, we caught some fish. Every fish was an adventure for our two guys from TN who had never fished in the ocean. The Bonnethead shark created the most excitement. They couldn't believe that when I turned it over on its back that it went to sleep (a typical shark characteristic).
Comments: I hope all SOC people in pain and with health issues can find their ways out of the quagmire. It's your body, and you get to make the call. My charts are flagged in several offices because I've said, "Sorry, but I'm not going to take that drug." Whether you're a Mick Jagger fan or not, last night's Sat. Night Live was good. Mick is funny as heck. Who knew? Great rock n' roll music, too. Mick is our age, and he's still got it!
Comments: When I moved to Austin..my elementary school had a pay phone..not connected..that sat on the counter in the Teacher Room.. It had a sign that said 'Call Someone Who Cares'.. After teaching there, I know what that was all about.. There was an article in an Austin paper about the 400,000 certified teachers that lived in Central Texas..and wouldn't teach.. I now know why.. The patch I have is called a 'Flector Patch'. Works but won't be paid for by my groups.. I had insurance that paid for all that when I was married. We had 2 insurances..What one would not cover, the other one picked up on.. On the Doctor..thing.. I had an Ectopic Pregnancy..in Nashville. The 'idiot doctors' there said it was only a cyst..because they wanted to go hunting over Thanksgiving. Wanted me out of the hospital.. I called a friend in Dallas, who used the same obgyn, I did..when I lived there..Dr. Godat, who practiced at Baylor, called me back..He said get to Dallas. I flew in on AA..went straight to Baylor, was admitted. Godat examined me on Thanksgiving Day and by Friday, I had had the operation to 'remove' the Ectopic Pregnancy, fetus. etc.. I would have died if...I had believed and done what the 'idiots' said to do.. Believe me, I know about 'incompetent' deadly doctors..Nashville had several.. Life goes on..or doesn't.depending on whether you can survive the situation or not..
Comments: p.s. As for Austin schools not being very good, I substituted in them when hubby was in graduate school They paid me $15 a day back in the late 60's. The Austin schools were run on a shoe string budget back then. Dallas schools were much better supplied with what the teachers needed. Austin schools had almost no teacher aids in the classroom even among special needs students. Austin schools could be picky about hiring teachers because there were so many teachers living in Austin due to the University being there.
Comments: The name of the patch is Fentanyl. I will let you know how effective it is. The patch takes about 24 to 48 hours to build up in the blood stream. Have any of you used Fentanyl? Ginger, I am sorry you lost your principal and your teacher friend. Austin like a lot of places, doesn't have the high level of medical care (although not perfect) that you can receive in Dallas. If you have health problems it makes it hard to move to other places. We have a friend who flies into Dallas from Phoenix every three months to go to his doctors at Baylor.
Comments: Pain Patches.. Had some..as samples. Had prescription and took it in.. Medicare doesn't pay for those.. The price was $362.. I didn't get those patches.. A little above my means.. They worked.. I still have a half of one.. I cut them to fit.. I have back and hip problems, knees..and one 'bum' ankle.. I used the patches before I had another 'Nerve Block'.. Those work for me too. The only thing...is they're Cortisone..and I'm Diabetic.. Raised my Blood Sugar to 500, then I had to go on Insulin for a month.. I'd do it again, but have to be ready to go on Insulin...if I have a Nerve block. Had a fellow teacher in Austin, that was Diabetic, a Cancer Survivor and she contracted the Flu, then Pneumonia..and they couldn't give her Cortisone. She died. She was 48. One of a long string of bad things that happen in Austin Schools and our elementary school. we also buried the best principal in Austin..our principal. They closed the school for a year and a half..because of Mold..and that school went through a very bad, bad principal.. He was finally 'gone' and ended up in Denver..where they fired him..within the year.. Well, that brought up memories..! Back and Hip trouble worsened after falling in the public schools of Tn..and Texas. If you can afford those patches..Yep..they work...
Comments: Thanks for your comments on the patch. I am glad they helped you. Recently, our neighbor ran for reelection to the Dallas School Board. He had served our district well and had the support of the teachers and his neighbors. His opposition was a tax attorney who was brought into the district to run against him and paid for by North Dallas money. We daily had robo calls and daily mail outs. They spent over $75000 to eliminate our neighbor and it worked. Our honest neighbor who was doing a wonderful job lost because he couldn't afford to compete. You have to ask yourself why a school board election would merit so much attention and money.
Comments: Oh yes....those 10 a day of every size of wasted paper???
Comments: Or read those postcards that come in the mail every day?
Comments: I used the pain patches a lot last year for my left foot and they helped. I can't remember the brand of mine, but it is a prescription. The patches came very large and I cut them to fit where ever I needed the patch. Another question: do the politicians really think we listen to those annoying messages they leave on our home voice mails???
Comments: What type of patch ? Yes I have and yes it helps.
Comments: I have a question for you. Have any of you ever used a medical patch to help control pain? If so, how effective was it ? Did you have any side effects?
Comments: I haven't seen an update on Wayne...last I saw was that he was recouping well. Jerry is ill. I think it would be nice to send cards instead of calling. Even though we have good intentions when we call, when one is ill, answering and talking on the phone is difficult and takes energy. Mary started chemo today. Her brother, Larry, is with her right now.
Comments: How is Jerry Vessels doing? And how is Wayne, too?
Comments: Lynell: Not "my program". I only do a minuscule part and I'm not really doing anything. After all, I like to get out on the water and fish. This time, I just get to do it with some fantastic young men and women.
Comments: First Baptist Gatesville and others were a part of hosting 500 warriors.. It's nice to know such a large effort was accomplished.
Comments: A lifelong relationship probably started with that young man and those parents. What a great story, and as Martha said, what are the chances. Barry, your program does a lot of good things. That soldier brought some peace to that family.
Comments: Barry, that is a great story. What were the chances those parents would ever know first hand. Thanks for your participation in the great project. Rockbox Theater, in Fredericksburg, hosted some this past weekend also.
Comments: Charlotte: Thanks for the donation to Warriors Weekend. The amazing thing I have noticed after doing this for 4 years is how upbeat all the soldiers are. Out of all of them we have talked to, only one wanted to complain. The others, without exception, only regret that they had to leave their fellow soldiers. They all wish they could go back and some of them get to do so. One really interesting thing happened year before last. A lady comes to POC about a week before WW and builds a really elaborate sand sculpture. On this sculpture was a listing of all the area soldiers that have been killed in Iraq and Afganistan. One of the guys we took fishing that year was in a humvee that was blown up by an IED. He was the only survivor. He saw a name on the list and said that he was one of his buddies killed in the explosion. A fellow standing next to us said, "That's his parents right over there". He went over to meet them and it was very touching. The parents had wanted to find out exactly what had happened. Small world.
Comments: Glad to hear Mary is home. Happy Mother's day to her and all the great moms!
Comments: Posted on FB that Mary McCord Bach is at home now.

Comments: Happy Mother's Day SOCite moms! Have a great weekend.
Comments: Since FB is the only place those in the know are posting right now, for those of you who do not use FB I will update here when I see the posts. Correction. Peaches wrote a new update on Mary. She said Mary still sounds good. Her chemo will not start until Monday and other procedures will wait until June 6.
