Pardon my intervention on this fine website of my 63 friends but I wanted to drop a line that I had lunch today with your distinguished classmate Bob Chaney. We had a great time revisiting the 50's and 60's. Bob, like most of us, is retired and living the good life but he did make me sad when he told me a stroke had left him unable to play the piano. For any of you who ever heard Bob at the piano, you know how I felt. Good visit with a good guy. And now I hibernate back to my 64 site.

I had a coupla dates with Ronnie Garrett.  People thought he was my brother.  I remember watching Gunsmoke with my family a lot.  Wasn't that on Saturday night?

Barry, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your dating experiences at SOC.  Makes me feel somewhat better about mine or lack of same.

JS:

I agree that she was a lovely girl and I can only assume, that if we actually went on a date, that she was another one that I could only get to go on one date and that was a blind date!  Sorry to say, I did not leave a string of broken hearts behind me as you did.  Dating was tough for the kid from Fruitdale.  I asked Connie Fleming to be our company's representative at the Military Ball and that resulted in Connie winning, but it also resulted in a fight with Brooks Barr after lunch one day.  I had guys asking me to fix them up with a date with Betty, thinking she was my sister, but I couldn't get a date with her myself.  When I did have a date, my severe allergies would flair up the morning of the highly anticipated date and by date time my nose was as red as Rudolph's, my eyes were red and swollen and a handkerchief was always at the ready. To those poor girls, I apologize and it really was just allergies.

Capt. Gibbs, I don't see why you're on the defensive about this incident? She was a fine lookin' girl. The pic almost looks like a portrait from a royal wedding.

Was this another of those times when the poor gal would only go out with you once?

My apologies to Nancy Miller for any negative reactions that the photo from JS might have caused.  I assure you that she is as innocent in this character assassination as I am.  She looks like a lovely and sweet girl and I am sure that she would disavow and connection with me or JS.

I had my first annual physical last week after getting on Social Security.  I say "annual" but I seem to have missed the 65 and 66 years.  I'm sure a number of you have had this same experience-the nurse walks in and says "Now don't take this personal.  We have to do this on all our Social Security patients.  Remember, don't take this personally".  She then handed me a sheet of paper with two instructions on it 1. Write a sentence and 2. Copy the drawing on the left into the empty box on the right.  She then handed me a kleenex and said "Take this napkin with your right hand, fold it in half and lay it on the floor".  There were several more pages of questions that I think I got right.  She said that they have a number of older patients that cannot answer any of the questions.  Really scary when you think about it.  My sentence "Are we having fun yet?

John, John, John:

I continue to deny any involvement with anyone from Kimball.  I didn't even associate with my cousin, Don Darnell, who went to Kimball.  It is time that you cease the character assassination. My total allegiance was to SOC.

Fifty years means nothing.  Get yourselves to Crockett next Saturday to see the best looking group of 60 something year olds you ever knew.

I live in Senior Apartments and I'm one of the 'younger ones'. I watch all these older people..80's and 90's and I call it a preview of what it's going to be like when  'you're really old'...

It just sunk in that the photo of Barry and Nancy was taken about this time of year ... 50 years ago!!

How can this be? Where did fifty years go? This is a very disturbing revelation.

I personally hope the parents of that little boy continue encourage that behavior because eventually he will be a teen.  He seems to already rule the roost.

As for the BG-man's raids on JFK cuties -- I don't even know what to say (to quote Betty Draper.)

Let me apologize for monopolizing the guestbook today but the news keeps rolling in.

Back in the late Spring of 1962, Barry G. hit a dry spell after chasing the Mimbies and Jewells and such that roamed the halls of dear Ol' SOC High. To be frank he'd reached that point in which no girl at SOC would go out with him more than once. So he did what many of us were forced to do ... start poaching girls from the inventory of J.F. Kimball High.

Today my old Kimball girlfriend who shall remain nameless (Suanne) sent me a pic from her dusty archives. She'd arranged a date for my pal Barry with her good friend Nancy Miller. The occassion was the Military Ball at the end of our Jr. year.

I'll have to say, they made a good lookin' couple. For years Barry has denied ever dating anyone from Kimball, but this Kodak moment says otherwise:

Capt. Gibbs & Nancy

SOC offspring makes the news!

Am I the only one who picked up on this story? At a recent Rangers game a couple caught a ball tossed into the stands and it created a crying tantrum with a 3 yr. old seated next to them.

The attractive couple (Shannon Smith Moore & Sean Leonard) were so excited at snagging the ball that they didn't notice the immensely disappointed young lad. As I read the story and saw the faces, something seemed to click in my memory. I'd seen Shannon & Sean on Facebook recently.

Shannon is the striking daughter of Randy Strangi (SOC '64) and will soon be marrying Sean. Small world, indeed.

Dru and I spent the first half of the week at the Lazy S Ranch in Coleman County (west texas). It is a rough 311 acres of rocky land, mesquite, cacti, snakes with rattles etc. Every thing there is designed to bite, scratch, puncture or claw you. SOCites Dale & Yuvonne Smiley (Cl of '66) are the owners.

Dale and I are pictured below riding the range in a tough little car that doesn't seem to mind cactus needles.

Memo to Barry: Just today I received word from Suanne that she has at last located the ancient photographic "proof" of you dating a Kimball girl (Nancy M.). Let me know if she follows thru and emails it along to you.

According to publicdata.com, JS has quite a rap sheet in numerous states.  And, JS always has such a quiet demeanor that you would never suspect him.  I guess you just never really know about some people. Lynell, you will be glad to know that your record is now clean. at least as far as felonies.  I was unable to clear all the misdemeanors.

Let's see-what am I driving today?  Fancy European sports car?  Not hardly.  It's more like a Chevy 3/4 ton diesel pickup.  I save the fancy sports cars for Sunday drives when the weather is nice.  Eat your hearts out!  JS is the one with the fancy sports car, including undercar lighting and fancy graphics.  I think he even has one of those kits that lets you raise the car up and down and make the wheels jump off the ground.  I am so envious.......

Barry, I thought some of those shows must be regional to NY, because I seem to remember everything I ever saw on TV as a kid.  Can't remember anything else, just things like the theme song from Mr. Ed.

Your video is definitely more upbeat than mine.  Some of those shows I didn't remember-maybe a regional thing.
