Comments: John! John! Not having the money in hand has never stopped our government from spending in the past, and sadly, will not stop them now or in the future.
Comments:
I heard a fascinating proposal last week. Regarding the filing of one's income tax, the "Government" currently uses a system of negative incentives for taxpayers. If we pay "late" we must face a penalty charge.
A more useful system would be to offer positive incentives to those who file their taxes early (which currently is only taxpayers who expect to get a refund ... like Lynell).
For instance, if you file your taxes by January 31st, perhaps the IRS could allow a 5% credit on your taxes due. The Government would get their hands on the money much faster and the erstwhile taxpayer would enjoy the benefit of the rebate. Win-Win (sort of)
Not everyone has all their forms together that early, so allow a 4% credit for those filing by Feb. 15th, and a 3% credit for filers who get it in by March 15th.
Those who are content with filing on April 15th, would of course receive no incentive (just like it is now).
Maybe Lynell could work this in to her Presidential Campaign. It would give voters one more reason to proclaim "Lynell is Swell".
Comments: I'm an admitted tax procrastinator, one, because I'm an all-around procrastinator, and two, because I usually owe something and don't want to pay even one day early. This year, I was trying to do better and actually prepared my return yesterday. All I had to do today was write the check and mail it off. My smugness about not waiting until the last minute went out the window when I got to the office, opened my checkbook and realized that I had used my last check and not inserted a new supply. I had to go next door to the Credit Union to get a cashier's check, so I could get it in the outgoing mail and not have to wait in line at the Post Office. Happy Tax Freedom Day (the day the average taxpayer has completed earning enough for that year's taxes), everyone!
Comments: Cynthia, I'm glad you're better. Chicken soup = Jewish penicillin! I had some yesterday, and am much better today. Charlotte, Keedex Kood Dutch. Got it!
Comments: Lynell...try the new Kleenex cool touch! They are great!
Comments: Lynell - my condolences. Seems my Great nephew at 6 months was passing that around his family when we had Easter together. Have not been sick in 4 or 5 years but sure came down with something last week. Went to the doc - got a steroid shot and the Z pac - 3 cans of chicken noodle soup and a lot of sleep later - doing well but looks like the cough will hang around for a little while. Hope you fair better!
Comments: I have come down with possibly the worst cold in the history of colds. Just as I was expecting that big tax return. Now I'll have to spend it on lotion soft Puffs. Waaah!
Comments: Is that like a long electric cord? I have plenty of those around if anyone needs one.
Comments: JS: I thought you said anyone over 65 didn't have to file. I hope that was not bad info. If it was I guess I need to file an extension (whatever that is).
Comments: What is a tax return?
Comments:
Well, it's almost 1:00pm.
Guess I'd better get crackin' on the income tax forms. Now where is that copy of TurboTax?
Any other procrastinators out there?
Comments: Sandy, this sounds like fun! We'll try to be there to see how you '66 kids are holding up. Thank you for posting this.
Comments: Just wanted to let our friends from the great class of '63 know we are having our Spring Get-Together this coming Saturday, 4-21. We'd love to have ya'll come visit with us & share some laughs. We'll be getting together in the bar area of the Hyatt Hotel in Richardson between 2:00 - 6:00pm on 4-21. It's located on Campbell Rd @ Hwy 75 in the NE corner. As always, there is no charge for attending, but the fun & laughter are priceless!!
Comments: If you haven't driven around town looking at the beautiful flowers lately, you need to. The roses and iris are just beautiful. The colors of all the flowers seem brighter than they ever have. Our neighborhood seems especially beautiful and green. The Arboretum on Garland Road was packed with people attending Dallas Blooms.
Comments: Mary Irene will live to play the Hallelujah Chorus many more times. She continues to amaze. My hope for Jerry is that he gets hooked up with the best medical treatment available, and that he gets to hear Mary play again and again.
Comments: I received word that Mary Irene is as well as she can be at this time. She played the piano for her church on Easter Sunday and continues to be upbeat. Jerry V is not well and is meeting with cardiologists soon to form a plan of care. Both of them enjoy calls from caring friends.
Comments: Pray for a sunny Saturday. Our church is participating in the Fort Worth Cowtown Brush-up and rain can really mess things up. More than 2100 low income homes have been repaired and painted by volunteers since 1991. I think that 40 are scheduled for painting on Saturday. Thanks for your help.
Comments: I received an update from my friend Valerie Adamson Bannister about her husband Don who is responding to chemo. He has lost four pounds and they are taking it one day at a time; they need your prayers. I was wondering how Mary McCord Bach is doing. Also, I heard some time ago that Jerry Vessels was in the hospital. Does anyone know how he is doing? Since we are growing older and a lot of us are having serious health problems, we should try to keep up with each other. I really appreciate Betty Gibbs and others who ask for us to pray for one another.
Comments: I remember when they 'released' the doves/pigeons into the sky, at Laurel Land. The 'Jesus' character appeared and then the birds..It was quite effective. Don't/can't do early morning now.. 11:00 is the magic hour and maybe Sunday School.. Happy Easter..
Comments: My family did the Easter morning sunrise service at Laurel Land too. I, too, remember being sleepy...but a vaguely remember the music and beauty too. Pleasant memories!
Comments: I am not a member at St. Barnabas, but my son, his wife and my granddaughter are. Donna and I have visited there on many occasions. My granddaughter (she'll be 3 next month) was in the building attending pre-school when the tornado hit there. The staff did a fantastic job of protecting the children and not a single child (ages 1-4) was even scratched. Several news reports stated that about 70 kids were there. The actual number was 103.
Comments: Bill. are you a member of St. Barnabas Methodist Church and did you go to their Sunrise Service this morning? The members had an outdoor service because of storm damage to their church. Over 400 members attended the service. I remember how my mother used to bundle my brother and I and take us to the Sunrise Service at Laurel Land. I remember how cold and sleepy I was that early in the morning. We did that for years until we grew up. Happy Easter Everyone!
Comments: Happy Easter SOCites! Have a Blessed day.
Comments: John, looking forward to seeing you and Dru. I will check to see about getting into the old cemetery, just in case it is on the inside.
Comments: John, I see where Houston Mayor Annise Parker is giving a welcome home party for the military personnel who are returning home. I think that is an awesome gesture.
Comments:
Martha, save some fajitas for Dru and I. Looking forward to a return trip to scenic Crockett. Plus, there's still that geocache to go after west of town!
Comments: Looking for to seeing you and Donna.
Comments: Thanks for hosting, Martha. Donna and I will be there. Nice road trip for us. We may even come on Friday and spend the night.
Comments: Thanks for posting the invitation to May's luncheon. Being midway between Dallas and Houston may give us a chance to see friends that can't always make the Dallas luncheons.
Comments: Me again. Check the Events page for the next SOC luncheon. Martha Bass Hunt is planning a shindig May 5 at her country club in Crockett, TX. It's a fun town, club and hostess, so check it out!! |
